Everyone on Earth has a common goal in life: to be happy. The time period in which they hope to have happiness and the ways that people attempt to achieve happiness vary greatly for each person. Some people hope to achieve happiness in this life; others hope to achieve eternal happiness in the afterlife. There seems to be no point in neglecting one and supporting the other. Either way the individual is subject to misery for at least a lifetime. Everyone should find as much long-term happiness in this life, contentment at death, and, in the event that the afterlife actually exists, aim to have peace after death. This happiness can be discovered through attempting to answer controversial questions about life, death, and origins through observing the world surrounding, and including, mankind.
To begin this process of seeking lasting contentment, the questions that have lead to many controversial debates for centuries must have some believable conclusion to the individual. For instance, one of those controversial subjects is the origin of the universe. One of the main theories held today is the Big Bang Theory. Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, two radio astronomers who researched radio signals in the spaces between galaxies in Bell Labs in Holmdel, New Jersey, possibly found evidence of the Big Bang in 1965. These astronomers detected background “noise” in their satellite transmission system called “Echo” at the microwave frequency from every direction, in which they concluded to be a cosmic frequency resulting from the big bang that created the universe. These men won the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physics for this “discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation.”
On the other end of the debate, people argue that there was a...

...God exists. Since God exists and there is proof of the Big Bang being discovered in recent years, it stands to reason that the Theory of the Big Bang and God’s work in developing the universe coincide. Dr. Gerald Schroeder is touching on connecting these two theories in his works such as, The Science of God, in which he relates the origins of the universe (about fifteen million years old) with the first story in Genesis of the Hebrew Bible.
Discovering this link, along with following the moral, social and individual guidelines can better free up the mind to reflect on other issues of the world. This will help them create a sense of purpose for themselves. This sense of purpose, and the consequent sense of achievement, can offer the individual a long-term happiness and contentment in both this life and the afterlife, reaching the goals of a reasonable human being.
The philosopher Aristotle once wrote, “Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” This famous quote compels people to question the significance of their joy, and whether it truly represents purposeful lives they want to live. Ray Bradbury, a contemporary author, also tackles this question in his book, Fahrenheit 451, which deals heavily with society's view of happiness in the future. Through several main characters, Bradbury portrays the two branches of happiness: one as a lifeless path, heading nowhere, seeking no worry, while the other embraces pure human experience intertwined together to reveal truth and knowledge.
In Jane Goodall’s, In the Forests of Gombe, she says, “It was not some intangible God who created the universe, [scientists] argue, it was the Big Bang Theory. Scientists believe that the universe started out as a single singularity and over billions of years, the universe was created. Religionists believe that God created the universe. The Bible reads, “ In the beginning, when God created the universe, the earth was formless… And so the whole universe was completed; By the seventh day God finished what he had been doing and stopped working… And that is how the universe was created”
Throughout history there has always been discussions and theories as to how the universe came to be. Where did it come from? How did it happen? Was it through God that the universe was made? These philosophies have been discussed and rejected and new theories have been created. I will discuss three theories from our studies, Kalam’s Cosmological Argument, Aquinas’s Design Argument, and Paley’s Design Argument. In this article, I will discuss the arguments and what these arguments state as their belief. A common belief from these three theories is that the universe is not infinite, meaning that the universe was created and has a beginning date. Each believe that there was a God, deity, or master creator that created the universe for a reason. They also believe that
The big question. No not that, the other one. The "what happens to us after life" question. It is something that has intrigued people everywhere. It has prompted the beliefs and semantics of different cultures all around the world. It started wars, divided people, and now dictates how we are all to act. "We should do this, we should do that. If we don't, we will be punished." I, for one, am tired of it. By all means, think what you will. But this is my writing, and you will have to open your mind to my thinking if you wish to continue. If you do wish to continue, I will be brutaly honest in what I think. There will be no sugar-coating in this oppinionated essay of mine.
...he universe does not have an infinite past. For example, many scientists believed a Big Bang was the origin of the universe. There are several other theories to the universe’s existence. Craig’s argument is logically sound and shows that God does exist. The universe does not have an infinite past, everything has been created by something else, and therefore, God created the universe.
There have been philosophers that have been philosophizing for thousands of years. Discovering new ideas and different ways to think about things. Thinking in new, creative ways is an inevitable future that humanity will face unless stagnancy in the development of technology and morality occurs. Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World displays this possibility incredibly and makes stagnancy look unappealing. With stagnancy and lack of new and imaginative thoughts, however, complete happiness seems like a less menacing task than before. Nobody questions why certain luxuries are not available. The whole world can be content. Why would this not be favorable for humanity? Happiness is hindered greatly by the ability to think.
Happiness has always been a desirable goal throughout our lives, but each actions we take might just affect the happiness of others. When humans seek happiness, we always seek for things that make us feel alive, or things that brings us the greatest comfort. Our contentment comes with the act of selfishness since we choose to prioritize our happiness above all other. We willingly classify happiness in two different types of meaning, both physical and mental happiness. People ought not be in title to happiness because it is classified in general as a physical desire by many people. Contentment is always known to be a physical satisfaction in life instead of a self-inducing satisfaction for life.
Modern science can explain many things. However, one of the things is yet to prove and will most likely never prove, is: why was everything was created? This is where God steps in. He is the only one who could have created the universe. Thus it can be concluded that the world could not have been created by chance. It is extremely complex and ordered, so much so, that it but must be the product of intelligent design. This is God.
I am often bombarded with a seven word question in life as I am sure many other people are. “What is your ultimate goal in life?” Many answers may differ, but my answer seems to always be the same; to seek happiness. If one can’t seek happiness what is the point of living? If you are miserable all the time and not living life with a positive mindset is there any so called “value” to your life? I’m not saying that you have to be happy all of the time because that is hard to achieve. Sometimes there are so called “punishments” in order to seek happiness, but once one achieves happiness it is a feeling that is indescribable.
The number one objective that humans want to achieve before they are on their death bed is to have a good life. They do not want to ponder the fact of accomplishing their goal before they perish into their state of death. To fulfill your life and achieve joy, one must have a philosophy they need to follow during their lifetime. “The goal for philosophy in the ancient Greek world was not merely life, but to live a good life. [the good life] has important implications in what we do”(Swift 5).
The irony connected with the obstacle in achieving happiness is the pursuit of happiness. Those who pursue happiness with deliberate effort find themselves having to work harder and harder over time to achieve their ends. By trying to pursue happiness, we look for obvious, insubstantial objectives to achieve the happy life. Existentialism, however, may provide both the antidote to this vicious cycle, and give direction on how to find happiness-- by filling our lives with what T.S. Eliot calls real substance. Purpose is not easily found and comes with a costly price tag; we must look into ourselves, find the hollowness that exists in each of us, and dive into the abyss of our inner self. Most people are easily discouraged by the idea of shining a light into the shadowy realm of our mind and heart. We do not want to discover what may lie in the shadows, but if we have the courage to grope in the dark, we may discover our truest self. The darkness is a gift and not a curse.

The universe, and what it means to be alive is almost impossible to define; yet that does not stop humanity from trying. “Lonergan’s philosophy of the human person reveals that being human means having an unlimited number and variety of questions about life and the universe.” (Morgan, 1996). There is no limit on the number and variety of questions the human person will ask, "the most subversive people are those who ask questions” (Gaarder), as a result there are many varied and opinionated answers. This essay will explore three different theories on how one might find answers to life's ultimate questions. At one point or another, every human being has asked the question why: Why am I here? What is my purpose? What is the point? It is in our nature as human beings to reason, to think, to ask, it is what separates us from the rest of creation, and with this ability to reason, we are left with one question: Why? Throughout history many have tried to answer this question, some have come to the conclusion that meaning is found through God, and one’s faith. Others feel that life begins meaningless, and it is up to the individual to give life meaning; then there are those who believe that life has no meaning, and we are all essentially, just waiting to die, "The meaning of life is that it ends." (Kafka).
aim and end of human existence. We create our own happiness. Happiness is not something really made,
The big bang theory has evidence to support it. An example of this evidence is the cosmic microwave background. The cosmic microwave background was discovered in 1964. The cosmic microwave background is radiation left over from the beginning of the universe or the big bang. This background is important because the radiation is the type of radiation that was seen at the beg...
