In today’s society, it is vital for police officers to be armed with the necessary weapons needed to assure protection to the people of the world while rates of crime rise dramatically. The usage of firearms that are carried by cops are critical to stop possible future crimes and make the safety of many people in the world a top priority even easier. Cops can intimidate future criminals to not be criminals, because they would know that there is a chance they could get hurt commiting a crime. The assurance that cops have the needed material to keep not only me but many people in the world today as save as they can.
One of the many reasons I believe cops should carry guns is to prohibit any threats by others from being successfully carried out. If cops are armed with guns to stop criminals, there would be a much lower crime rate. The article How Often Are Guns Used to Stop Crimes?, says “The only thing that stops

a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” This quote states that there is a good chance we can stop a lot of crime from happening if our protectors are armed with the right guns to properly do their job without putting them self or others in danger. Given this information, it is clear that cops would do a better job at keeping the people safe if they were properly armed; the risk of failing at saving people would be high if cops didn’t have guns. In the list of many reasons why cops should be armed is to save the lives that are threatened in today’s world.
Everyone wants their safety guaranteed by the state or city enforcements like cops. They are the ones who give up their time and safety to ensure the peoples’ safety. This is also taking into consideration that many citizens do not have the ability to fully protect themselves and are not educated on defending themselves with guns if need be. The article “Capitol Police Heroes Used Guns to Prevent Massacre on Ballfield”, has a quote stating “We were sitting ducks. We had nothing to fight back with but bats, if it came to that,” Mr. Williams told reporters. He said there could have been as many as 25 deaths had the armed officers not been present.” Due to cops and their ability to saved around 25 lives that day because 3 cops were ready and armed when shots were fired. It is clear that if we didn't have cops that are armed and ready for when criminals strike, the peace in the world could be forever lost and hundreds of innocent lives would be
taken. Crime prevention deals a lot with cops and other enforcement officers being armed and ready for whatever situation they may be called for. The intimidation of criminals by cops carrying a gun, letting them know they have what is needed to stop them, keeps the criminals from acting against other people and breaking the laws. From the article How Often Are Guns Used to Stop Crimes?, states “Studies indicate that firearms are used over 2 million times a year for personal protection, and that the presence of a firearm, without a shot being fired, prevents crime in many instances.” With many people and cops having the ability to be armed with guns, the prevention of criminal activity is increased day by day. In many people’s eyes, police officers are good guys, and with the deserved reputation, they can be depended on to keep the people safe. Many others, though, see the wrongs in police officers and fear the probability of manipulation of the power they hold when they have these weapons. Everybody in this world needs protection, and not everyone is perfect, and there will always be a flaw in the system. To relieve people from this problem that could happen in the enforcement agencies is what they do before they let people become cops or higher up enforcement officers. All enforcement officers have to go through tough training and many background checks, which ensure the greater chance of having the right enforcement officers at work. The article American policing is broken. Here’s how to fix it., states “Justice Department found that police officers typically receive about 111 hours on firearms skill and self-defense — but just 11 on cultural diversity and human relations, eight on community policing strategies, and eight on mediation and conflict management.” This explains what all enforcement officers have to do and have to get into enforcement agencies. In conclusion, we need cops that are armed and ready to protect us people when the time comes and criminals decide to strike. Without armed cops, defenseless people all around the world will be injured and the safety of the public will no longer be assured. Cops are heros and while they may have flaws, like the rest of the world, it is not reasonable to risk the lives of the people because of that fear. Working with the program and not around it is what will make society better as a whole. Left, right, Liberal, Conservative, Democratic, Republican. There are a lot of synonyms for the sides of our nation divided. Divided on many things: religion, political views, morals, etc.. For a nation that prides ourselves on extraordinary security and unity, it is quite ironic that so many issues can cause such distress and uproar within communities. One such issue is gun control. As a white male in a middle-lower class family that has never owned a gun, I may be somewhat biased. Objectively as I can, I am going to report the facts and more importantly, try to find the core issues at play.
By teaching police officers alternatives to shooting to kill, they experience higher risks with their lives. Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly, said, “It would be "very difficult" to train officers to shoot to wound” (Jacobo, 2016). Police officers are viewed as “predators” and “an occupying army” rather than allies (Valey, 2016). This is a perception that needs to change because it counteracts the mission of police officers
In the United States of America, there is much debate about the effectiveness and practicality of concealed firearms. Many citizens today are trying to support their claim with old, outdated evidence and targeted research to attempt to prove a point, but can not escape the truth. Although Concealed firearms may sound appealing to reduce crime rates and stop violence, new evidence suggests otherwise. Recently there has been trends of certain lunatics who own guns that decide to shoot innocent people, justifying the need for more strict gun control laws. The purpose of this paper is to educate and inform about the immensely important topic of concealed firearms, with focus on what effect it has on society and crime rates. We will go over modern
...t is our job, as citizens, to at least be prepared for the criminals’ attack and to be able to defend ourselves in time of need. At the Virginia Tech shooting, the responding police officers took approximately three minutes to reach the school, but about five minutes to break through the chains binding the doors together. Cho fired rounds off for about nine minutes. Out of those nine minutes only four, or less, could have happened, if a professor or other college personnel stopped the aggressive action before the tragedy was completed. Police cannot get there fast enough sometimes to save a life; citizens must be prepared for the worst. One thing is for sure, one would rather have it and doesn’t need it, than need it and doesn’t have it. People often ask themselves, “Why should I have a gun?” Well guns are needed when seconds count, and the police are minutes away.
If a person don’t carry a concealed weapon, how will they be able to protect themselves and their precious family from vicious criminals? Shall issue states are states that citizens may apply and be considered by the state for a gun permit which is also known as concealed carry. John R. Lott, is an economist and has received his Ph.D. in economics from UCLA. He claimed "shall-issue" concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robbery by 3%, according to a 2000 analysis of FBI crime data” (Lott, John R.) This refers to how concealed carry reduces crime and information was reported by the FBI compared to the other states that don’t allow concealed carry. This quote shows real evidence on how guns
Gun control is a highly controversial topic in today’s world where the fight is between the liberal and the conservatives. Many people believe that guns should be banned due to many recent massacres that have happened whereas others are wanting people to have background checks done before owning a gun. I am against gun control because banning handguns in the United States should not be allowed because handguns fail to protect the people and it is ineffective.
Ultimately, it is a person’s choice to use firearms to commit violent crimes. So criminals should be controlled, not the guns which they share with millions of law-abiding citizens. Gun control supporters claim that gun control lowers crime rate. We as people need to take a stand and fight for our Second Amendment and the right to bear arms. Gun control advocates need to realize that passing laws that honest gun owners will not obey is a self-defeating strategy. Gun owners are not about to surrender their liberties or their right to bear arms. The Federal Govement of the United States should not be able to take away the right of law-abiding citizens to own a gun.
Why does the government make it harder for average citizens to protect themselves? Police cannot always protect everyone in the community. There are only about 500,000 police officers throughout the country, which means there is around 125,000 police officers on duty at any given time. Other than a bodyguard or a law enforcement officer at everyone’s side twenty-four hours a day, the most effective deterrent to a criminal attack is the criminal’s fear that the potential victim is armed and prepared to defend themselves.
Gun violence in America is a public health crisis, which needs to be recognized and changed by legislatures, and the voting American. As conscious Americans, we need to vote for changes to gun laws that would improve background checks nation-wide, make firearm registration mandatory, restrict the sale of assault weapons and weapon modifications that give the shooter military-grade fire power, and invest in gun-safe technology and safe firearms storage designs. This type of technology will help prevent criminally oriented people from accessing guns, and will help prevent the accidental deaths of many children by guns. This essay will explain the reforms needed to help ensure Americans can still exercise their 2nd amendment right of owning firearms, and preventing the unnecessary deaths of many Americans at the same time.
The debate over gun control in America has constantly brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of civilizations in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anybody that has been affected by the shootings have been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on government. With the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support. Adding more gun control isn’t going to stop the mass shootings from happening.
Whether to arm the police is a contentious subject. While some supporters maintain that unarmed police are unable to protect law-abiding citizens, opponents reject this notion on the grounds that it could lead to a surge of violence in society.
Whether kneeling or sitting, professional athletes using their national fame to protest for social justice is a very good idea. Collin Kaepernick has created the most peaceful protest concerning police brutality. People dislike what he’s standing up for so they’re saying they don’t like that he’s sitting/kneeling when in reality, that’s not it. His protest was about police shootings not just police shooting african-americans or black lives matter. People just assume that because he’s biracial.

All but one of every public mass shooting since the 1950s have been in an area where citizens are banned from carrying weapons. Adults should be allowed to carry concealed weapons. Studies on concealed weapons have show that if civilians have concealed weapons, crime rates are significantly lower. Civilians with weapons have more knowledge than the police when the crime happens, and are safer. Bans on assault weapons have no affect on crime rates and fatal assaults.
Gun control would not deter crime as nearly 8 in 10 gun crimes are committed with illegally-possessed guns. In a poll of felons serving time behind bars, the U.S. Department of Justice found out a lot of interesting facts. “A criminal is not going to mess around with a victim he
