Timothy Irving Frederick Findley was a famous Canadian novelist, short story writer, playwright, and actor. Throughout his illustrious career he won many awards such as a Governor General's Award for English-language drama in 2000. On top of his successful writing career he was considered an inspiration to many people in the LGBTQ community. During his active years of writing (1960s-2000s) he wrote many great pieces including The Wars, Headhunter, Pilgrim, and Elizabeth Rex.
Timothy Findley was born on October 30th, 1930 in Toronto, Ontario. Timothy was one of three sons to Allan Gilmour Findley, a stockbroker, and his wife Margaret Maude Bull. His grandfather was the president of a popular farm-machinery company named Massey-Harris. Also,

he was raised in the upper class Rosedale, Toronto which is one of the oldest suburbs in Toronto. Rosedale is also one of the wealthiest and most highly priced neighbourhoods in Canada. Furthermore, Timothy attended boarding school at St. Andrew's College, which is a university-preparatory school in Toronto. After he finished grade 9, poor health caused him to give up his formal education. Instead he pursued a career in the arts, studying dance and acting. As a teenager Timothy declared his homosexuality, but he then went on to marry Janet Reid in 1959, the marriage only lasted a couple of months, and they had a divorce two years after they got married. In his early life Timothy joined the Stratford Festival company, where he was in several plays together with famous English actor Sir Alec Guinness. During the early 60s Timothy met a fellow writer named Bill Whitehead, who would later go on to be his domestic partner.
Together they would go on to work on many different projects together including television miniseries The National Dream which received an audience of three million within Canada which set a record for CBC in terms of dramatic programming. He left acting in 1960 because he was inspired by a famous actress and screenwriter named Ruth Gordon to pursue writing even more. His first two novels (The Last of the Crazy People (1967) and The Butterfly Plague (1969)) had to be published in Britain and the United States after being rejected by Canadian publishers. It was shocking that both were rejected since in the literature community both are considered to be “well-written with varied vocabulary and descriptive style of writing.” Both of his first two novels took place in Southern California. Having his first to books not published in Canada did not faze him at all as he went on to have a successful writing career writing many novels, and winning many awards such as the Trillium Book Award. Although, in 1985 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, and on June 21, 2002, in Brignoles, France, not far from his house in Cotignac, he passed away due to his declining health at the age of 71. One year after his death he was inducted into the Canadian walk of …show more content…
fame. Timothy is arguably one of the greatest Canadian novelist of all time, not only did he win many awards, but he also inspired a whole generation of upcoming writers.
He showed that you should never give up by writing one of his most famous books (The Wars) right after his first two were rejected by Canadian publishers. Also at a time where it wasn’t socially accepted he proudly announced his homosexuality on The Shulman File, even taking the host Morton Shulman by surprise. He also explored mental illness, gender, and sexuality which are kind of gray areas for many authors. Timothy also created an entire new genre by himself which was called Southern Ontario Gothic which is a sub-genre of the Gothic novel genre. This genre usually examines the role of evil in the human soul usually using supernatural or magical
elements. In the 90s before Timothy’s death he was honoured by the French government who declared him a Chevalier de l'Ordre des arts et des lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters). This is a prestigious order in France; members are people who "significantly contributed to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance.” Timothy revived many awards throughout his lengthy career before and even after his death, some of his books were even adapted into movies. His play ‘Elizabeth Rex’ was even nominated for a 2012 Equity Joseph Jefferson award for play production. Without this great writer, with his unique and original writing style Canadian literature wouldn’t be as great as it is today.
“Just watch me.”Joseph Philippe Pierre Yves Elliott Trudeau said in 1970. He meant it as he fought to keep Quebec a part of Canada. Not only did he do that, he managed to be prime minister for 16 years, as well as being Canada’s youngest leader at the time. He brought greater civil rights to Canadians, Quebec citizens mainly. His charismatic personality matched his innovative ideas, that enhanced Canada for the better. For his entire political career, not only did Canada watch him, the whole world watched him change the country for the better. He made a radical change to Canada by championing the idea of officially implementing bilingualism. Trudeau was a trailblazer from the moment he was elected.

There are numerous reasons as to why Walter Mitty suffers from maladaptive daydreaming. Firstly, Walter's daydreams are excessively detailed and which is a common symptom of those who suffer from maladaptive daydreaming. In Walter's daydreams imagery is used to create a vivid picture of the daydream in the reader's mind so that it seems as if Walter is actually experiencing the situation he is daydreaming about. For example, in Walter's third daydream he plays Captain Mitty, a character fighting in a war. In this daydream specific expressions such as "the war thundered and whined" "the pounding of the cannon; the rat-tat-tatting of machine guns" "the menacing pocketa-pocketa-pocketa of the new flame throwers" confirm that Walter Mitty's daydreams are much more detailed than those of regular daydreamers proving

Christopher Boone from the novel A Curious Incident in the Nighttime and Temple Grandin, who has become one of the top scientists in the humane livestock handling industry both fall on the high-functioning spectrum of autism. Even so, they do not display the exact same traits and behaviors. Whereas Grandin thinks in pictures and employs this unique gift for practical use, Christopher thinks in patterns and fails communicate his talents with others. However, they both speak their mind and have trouble understanding facial expressions and emotions.
Writers have changed the lives of many people over the years. “If there is any period one would desire to be born in, is it not the age of Revolution; when the old and the new stand side by side...when the glories of the old can be compensated by the rich possibilities of the new era? This time...is a very good one.”
In the poem “Determination” written by Stephen Dobyns, the poet gives an account of a man finally beginning to prepare to write his first novel after the many “tedious years” he endured of “doing the taxes of strangers” (19-20). Typically, this would be a respected occasion, and the poet emulates this idea to some extent. However, he also strategically employs a multifaceted tone regarding the actions of the character in the poem. Looking past the deferential, celebratory tone that lies on the surface of the poem, demonstrated through the thoughts of the speaker, the tone of the poet himself is dismissive and detached. By means of certain poetic devices and other literary techniques, the poet conveys his attitude toward the character in the

This essay will explore the trivialities of a man who battles self-deprivation, class struggle, life experience, and money. Ramsay is one who does enough to be on the verge of raising his class status, but finds himself loathing both the bourgeois lifestyle, and those who are members of this rising class. I argue that Ramsay thinks of himself as a proletariat, but is bourgeois in reality. The text relies on a theme of Ramsay’s value of life experience and Boy’s value of social and monetary capital. There is a connection between the two: Dunstan looks to Boy for advice in financial matters. Ramsay is one who speaks on Boy’s successes in many areas of life frequently, and always has a reason as to why his experience of life is better. Ramsay’s plebian arrogance is self-prescribed and wanted, but at times results in self-loathing and doubt. Fifth Business is fantastic with how the book explores the thematic discourse of Marxist realities in Deptford, Ontario, and abroad. Throughout Dunstan
Although coming from a rich background, his health during childhood very poor that his interest and attendance in school became erratic leading to his failure in finishing his tenth grade. Nonetheless, with resilience he pursued an arts career where he studied acting and dance from which he became a successful actor prior to switching to a writing career. He rose to charter membership of the 1953’s Stratford Shakespeare Festival, played The Matchmaker, a play at Edinburgh Festival and Sunshine Sketches, which was aired by CBC Television. In 1953, while working together with Alex Guinness, he had accepted his offer to attend Central School of Speech and Drama based in London, thus becoming a surprise for many when he shifted from his early life’s focus in drama to take a career in writing in his adulthood life (Roberts and Macdonald,
