In the time period from 1948 to 1961, Americans had to deal with the aftermath of World War II. After the Second World War, the Cold War began between the Soviet Union and the United States. The animosity between the Soviet Union and the U.S. caused American people to be afraid of communism being spread and nuclear war. American people feared that the Soviet Union would spread communism across the globe and affect the United States as well.
