Essay On The Bermuda Triangle

787 Words2 Pages

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil’s Triangle, is one of the few special spots on earth where a vast number of ships and planes are lost. Most of their wreckage has not been found either. Many odd events have been proclaimed about the area. There are many theories behind the Triangle, but a few are more believable than the rest. Scientists and theorists have linked these three main theories to the Bermuda Triangle: the electromagnetic properties of the Triangle, natural causes, or UFO’s and Atlantis.
The first theory of why the Bermuda Triangle is mysterious is because some scientists and theorists believe that it has special magnetic properties and has the potential to force compasses to point to True North. These devices are not supposed to point to True North; instead, they are intended to point to Magnetic North. Scientists are not sure why compasses point to true north in the Bermuda Triangle but this variation can be off as much as twenty degrees from magnetic north (Gaffron 47). This might not seem like much of a difference, but this alteration can be confusing for navigators, especially those who are not aware about this variation. Betty Miller of East Lansing, Michigan says “All we could see was a yellowish haze. My husband made a 30 degree turn which we thought should have put us over Cuba, but still there was only the yellow haze. It was very eerie. There wasn’t anything there.” After flying blindly for a while, the couple tried to pick up Havana on their radio and eventually obtained a signal from Florida which lead them back to Key West. They complained that their instruments had never acted up before, but this time they believed it had something to do with the yellow haze (Gaffron 50). Could it be that th...

...If anything in the dark below of the Bermuda Triangle is still active, and is actually creating problems like the loss of flight 19 and many other strange disappearances, then there is surely someone or perhaps a group of people, who do not want anybody to know about this.
These many theories behind the Bermuda Triangle are what people have thought of to make up for the unknown disappearances of ships and planes. Scientists believe that many of these reasons are supernatural, or have no evidence behind why these planes and ships actually disappear. Instead, they say that there it is all just storms and pilot malfunction, and human error. Still, some scientists question why many there are very many unknown disappearances or many disappearances with no reason. These disappearances do not happen often, but it is just enough to spark something more than just the normal.
