Social Media Over the past 10 years, the use of social media has exploded. While there are a broad range of social medias, three of the most known social media sites, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat have completely dominated the popularity game. These social media sites are also the most relevant in my life. of the most popular social medias, are also the most relevant to my life as well. “What’s your Snapchat?” is one of the most commonly asked questions when I first meet people. No, it’s not “Do you have a Snapchat?” instead it’s “What IS”. Snapchat is a way for teens, celebrities, brands, and those alike to share short pictures and videos of what they currently are doing. These pictures and clips can only be seen for a maximum of ten seconds at a time, unless the sender sets the visual as their snapstory. If something is set as a snapstory, the poster’s friends can view the post as many times as they want for the next 24 hours (unless deleted). Snapchat enables a user to post funny, entertaining posts that really have no significance other than pure amusement. Most snapchat’s also feature a caption directly onto the picture/video in order to explain to the audience exactly why it was posted. These captions do not have to be anything special, more of just a way to justify why you decided to send a 10-second picture of a …show more content…

Currently, social media plays a significant role in our everyday lives and the way people in society interacts with one another. A few years ago, before its influence reached the point where it is now, the large platforms such as Facebook or Twitter which function was merely to keep family and friends connected no matter where they were or what they were doing, and the requirements were an internet connection and a smart phone or a computer. People would share pictures or posts to keep others “updated” on their lives and what they were thinking. Now social media platforms are far more complicated. In various of them, such as Instagram or Snapchat, it is not enough to only share a picture or video of your day, but it is almost a requirement and people are pushed to take an extra mile further away and make yourself appear interesting in the eyes of others. The “feed” requires to be eye catching, the captions should be memorable, the places one goes to ought to look way better than they actually are, you have to include friends in such posts to prove one have a social life outside of the phone. The importance of the number of followers, likes or viewers
Snapchat has around 30 million active monthly users, with many being in the 18 to 24 year age range. Description Similarly, Snapchat is a new social media company, app, and service, one that touts privacy and security as its primary focus and its usage is rising as more and more devices have the app installed. Not only that, but the company is looking to be treated less as entertainment and more as a serious business partner for other companies. With the release of the new Snapchat update, many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use, but has in fact made many features more difficult. There is a general level of annoyance among users, to the point where many users are using VPN to go back to the old version. Social media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Now years before, social media was not even a part of the world we live in, and people had to come up with new ideas and ways of communicating. However, over the years due to advancements in technology and automation, people around the world have been given an opportunity to communicate not only in the proximity that they live in but expand outside their city, state or country and interact with people around the world. Ultimately, social media has created a gateway for people to use their interpersonal skills and develop a relationship with people they would not normally have a chance to converse with. Leadership qualities are what makes a person who they are and without them, we, as humans, would not be able to influence others to let them
I find social media a perfect way to stay in the loop of what is going on with my friends. Although Eva likes to post pictures of her favorite celebrities, I enjoy using twitter to stay up to date on my favorite sports teams and players. We all can agree that although we do not post selfies or constantly update social media on what we are doing at that very moment, we enjoy benefits social media gives us.
One of the greatest contradiction of today is the reality that instead of the screen created to be used, it became the users. Whether it’s at a school or even at a meeting, I see people with their eyes glued to their screens, a device that is the root of the growing impediments in today’s generation's social interactions and academic career. I am of no exception either. I tend to spend around seven hours a day in front of either my phone or my computer. What I usually do during this time are going on SnapChat(my favorite app), watching Rick and Morty (my favorite TV show) or going on Netflix(my favorite website).

However, using it as a tool for learning is a different story. By using it as a tool, it can push you off your course with classes. Social media is something that is not needed at school grounds. Schools should not require social media use in classes.

Do I personally, believe that social media is a fad; defiantly not. Social media has spread faster than wild fire. I believe currently that this is the era of the “Social Media Revolution”, where it seems that multiple generations have already chosen to conform into tech savvy users, in order to communicate and market to that 50% of under thirty category, and the 96% of millennial’s. The Tech savvy user’s population that can relate to the individual’s that seek self-gratification through the use of social media is only thinking of me, me, and me again. Its Almost like a drug, and it is addicting, pulling our focus when driving, first thing in the morning, and at night before we go to bed, some can’t even part with, when sitting on the John, it is the modern news paper in tablet form. instances of self-image as a pre-cursor to general deviance and aggressive behaviors (Barlow, 1991). While O’Keefe & Clarke-Pearson studied the effects of social media on children, Schau, & Gilly (2003) chronicled the social effects of the internet on young adult users. The researchers believed that extended consequences of social media on adults affected Firestone’s critical inner voice (Schau, & Gilly 2003). Schau and Gilly believed that social media skewed the dynamic that exists as a negative filter through which to view our lives and decisions we make (Schau & Gilly 2003). The researchers theorized that the voice is created during times of stress or trauma during early adolescence and can be influenced by both positive and negative stimulus (Schau, & Gilly 2003.
In the late 90s, while my country, Georgia, was recovering from civil war, the transportation and communication means were almost paralyzed, and most people had to walk several kilometers in order to visit each other and know the latest news. Now, after 16 years, with rapidly developing Internet technologies, young people have at their disposal a variety of different means of communication. Modern teenagers are significantly different from the teenage generation of the past when the world existed without cellphones, computers and social networks, which now have become the primary means of communication. Surveys show that over the past 10 years, social networks have become an integral part of our lives. According to Taylor Thomas, in Top Ten Reviews;
