Snoezelen is meant for all ages and abilities. As mentioned before this type of environment that provides relaxation with lighting effects, shapes, textures, soft music and colours as provides opportunities for interaction and engagement. Snoezelen can also be targeted towards in early years of development. Sensory information is a very important aspect in our life. Snoezelen can also help with individuals with behavioural challenges. Snoezelen can also incorporate with occupational therapy. The use of occupational therapy helps with concentrating on helping individuals with ADLs and IADLs. The multi-sensory environment helps to provide that unique environment to help engage individuals during activities/tasks. It can also help in a variety ways to meet the physical sensory and cognitive needs. Snoezelen can also be beneficial for individuals with learning disabilities. This type of environment can help provide the space for variety of interventions that can tailor towards that individual’s needs. An example for this would be, carrying out a specific ADL with the use of the Multi-Sensory Environments (MSEs). Snoezelen can be also targeted towards mental health, individuals with autism, brain injuries/neurological injuries, and for elderly
In comparison to other slaves that are discussed over time, Olaudah Equiano truly does lead an ‘interesting’ life. While his time as a slave was very poor there are certainly other slaves that he mentions that received far more damaging treatment than he did. In turn this inspires him to fight for the abolishment of slavery. By pointing out both negative and positive events that occurred, the treatment he received from all of his masters, the impact that religion had on his life and how abolishing slavery could benefit the future of everyone as a whole; Equiano develops a compelling argument that does help aid the battle against slavery. For Olaudah Equiano’s life journey expressed an array of cruelties that came with living the life of an
Through the article “Sizism – One for the Last ‘Safe’ Prejudices” by Sally E. Smith, I discovered that sizism really affects many aspects of one’s everyday life, such as job opportunities, travel issues, and the way people view a “person of size” in general (86-88). Smith uses many of these to prove how much sizism is not as safe or acceptable as one may think. Although with all that Smith has proposed, I honestly do not feel that it is as big of an issue as she makes it.
Her mother recognized that environmental factors like “getting angry once a tantrum started…[and] noisy places” (Grandin, 2006, p. 34) were things to avoid and something to keep Grandin’s teachers aware of. Grandin’s teachers needed to know as to what might provoke a distracting and upsetting environment. Decreasing stimuli in the classroom atmosphere allows more conducive learning for both Grandin and her peers. Laura Barnes similarly discussed in her applied behavioral analysis lecture the idea of being aware of “people, places and things” (Barnes, September 18, 2015) as possible environment instigators. Though people with autism often have more difficulty with processing external stimuli, maintaining a proper environment is helpful to everyone. In a hospital, a nurse may come across a once pleasant patient who has become more irritable and having trouble with recovery after treatment. An inspection of the patient’s environment may show that things like beeping machines, led to a restless night resulting in the mood change. Within the healthcare field, possible environmental irritants should be reduced to help patient recovery. Distractions have the ability to affect everyone, obtaining the skills to spot and avoid them are

In “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop, the narrator attempts to understand the relationship between humans and nature and finds herself concluding that they are intertwined due to humans’ underlying need to take away from nature, whether through the act of poetic imagination or through the exploitation and contamination of nature. Bishop’s view of nature changes from one where it is an unknown, mysterious, and fearful presence that is antagonistic, to one that characterizes nature as being resilient when faced against harm and often victimized by people. Mary Oliver’s poem also titled “The Fish” offers a response to Bishop’s idea that people are harming nature, by providing another reason as to why people are harming nature, which is due to how people are unable to view nature as something that exists and goes beyond the purpose of serving human needs and offers a different interpretation of the relationship between man and nature. Oliver believes that nature serves as subsidence for humans, both physically and spiritually. Unlike Bishop who finds peace through understanding her role in nature’s plight and acceptance at the merging between the natural and human worlds, Oliver finds that through the literal act of consuming nature can she obtain a form of empowerment that allows her to become one with nature.
Spirituals: African American spirituals are a key contribution to the creation of the initial genre of jazz. African Americans used spirituals during the earliest turmoil of slavery. These spirituals were used as songs to sing during labor and an initial way of communication for the Underground Railroad. These African American folk sounds mixed with gospel hymns were sun fused with instruments such as the harmonicas, banjos, and other instruments that could primarily be found. This initial form of the music started to separate itself from the gospel rendition. This mixture of different styles of music fused and gave birth to such things as minstrel shows, ragtime, and other forms of music. The most important that spirituals truly helped develop, was Jazz. Spirituals were the first true form of Negro expression in the form of music. Marshall W. Steams, Professor of English Literature at Hunter College states that “The spiritual was created out of nowhere by a sort of spontaneous combustion of Negro’s genius” (125). This mixture of hymns and instrumental instruction took form into one of the most versatile genres known to date, Jazz.
If you are interested in architecture, you might want to read about Albert Speer. He was Hitler's main architect. Hitler ordered him to rebuild Berlin into Germania. Germania was going to be the new capital. In 1945 when the Nazi Party fell the plans were over. The war was over and Hitler had killed himself. In 1945 Speer told people he was going to kill Hitler. My opinion of Albert Speer was that he was a good nazi. when in trial for crimes he did and didn't comity he apologized for the nazis rude and illegal way of handling the jews. Albert Speer was a good nazi because he rebuilt Berlin like hitler had asked him to.
The theme death has always played a crucial role in literature. Death surrounds us and our everyday life, something that we must adapt and accept. Whether it's on television or newspaper, you'll probably hear about the death of an individual or even a group. Most people have their own ideas and attitude towards it, but many consider this to be a tragic event due to many reasons. For those who suffered greatly from despair, living their life miserably and hopelessly, it could actually be a relief to them. Death affects not only you, but also those around you, while some people may stay unaffected depending on how they perceive it.

The MSE was developed from the work of Karl Jaspers, designed to comprehend a client’s perception through the client’s description and observation (Tancredi, 1987). The examination includes objective observation of the clinician and subjective descriptions that are given by the client. The exam follows several domains including, appearance, behavior, mood and affect, speech, cognition, thoughts, perception, and insight and judgment (Tancredi, 1987). In the domain of appearance, useful cues can determine the client’s lifestyle, daily living skills, and quality of self-care. For example, their grooming, clothing, or hygiene can indicate whether they combed they hair brushed their teeth or are wearing the same clothes for multiple days. This can be a symptom of cognitive decline in the client. In the next domain, behavior is examined to assess the client’s verbal and nonverbal communication. This can include facial expressions, body language and gestures, eye contact, posture, psychomotor activity, and anxious behavior. All of which can reveal a lot about the client’s emotional state or attitude, which can also be a sign for cognitive
...ysical exposure can contribute to the child’s education. Not only can it affect how they are taught, but the facility is important too. Just think about it: schools with higher SES have up-to-date conditions on the building and grounds. They would most likely have top of the line equipment to teach more efficiently and properly. In addition to just having the best equipment possible, the higher SES schools may pay more close attention to their classrooms. If a classroom is filled with fun, colorful, and inviting decorations, it will promote and encourage the child to learn in a more inventive way. If the classroom is not colorful, or does not have any decorations, it may not facilitate development or encourage the child to learn. The physical exposure is not the only aspect that can affect children 's health, but the psychosocial exposure plays a role too.
According to Elias, Binit, and Shah (2014) it is estimated the 10 million to 20 million Americans suffers from ET and 6.3 % of the population is affected worldwide. The average age of onset is 52, but can present at ages greater than 60 and as young as 8 years old. Males are minimally affected more than women and there is no discrimination related to the patients’ race. ETs is a progressive disease that can negatively impact patients’ gross motor skill such as writing, getting dressed, cooking meals, fine motor skills such as writing thus causing distress at home and in the work environment. This disease can have a great impact on the patient mental health resulting from co...
Vygotsky was a soviet psychologist from 1896-1934. He mainly contributed in the developmental psychology by proposing on theory that connects to the children development. He proposed a theory on the development or higher cognitive functions especially in the children, which he saw the emergence of some reasoning form the practical activities that children are participating in the social environment, especially through playing (Jones, & Reynolds, 1992). He has had many arguments in aligning to reasoning and cognitive development, the first in the earlier stages being the argument that, reasoning development is mediated by the symbols and signs that a person sees in everyday life. This means, they are connected very
Although children are good at expressing their feelings and their emotions, nurses are often relied on their parents or their guardians to describe their behaviors. While for adolescent, nurses need to take into consideration their stage of identity according to Erickson in order to not create a barrier for treatment. Often time adolescent does not want their parents to be aware of certain things that are going on in their life. Although, nurses are obligated to report any behavior that deer to be harmful to patients or others. The chapter also discuses the assessment of the older adult and factors that needs to take into consideration the fact that their five senses and brain function decreases as they get older. For these reasons stated it is essential for nurses to utilize the holistic approach to treat patient
