What is the most popular smartphone on the market? Smartphones are widely becoming a popular technology among teenagers, adults, and seniors simply because the user can do just as much on their smartphone as a desktop computer or laptop. A smartphone can be to its user more convenient and less confining than the computer or laptop. Therefore, it is fair to say that almost everyone has one, or has talked about owning one; most people find they cannot live without their smartphone. The smartphone popularity is here to stay and the two that seems to be a big hit with consumers today are Apple’s iPhone 6 and Samsung’s Galaxy S5. What makes these two phones so popular? Is one leading over the other in popularity, and if so, what are the features …show more content…
Owning a smartphone is not cheap. With so many different options to choose from, the cost of owning a smartphone can add up quickly. There are so many different accessories and data plans that can be added. Cellular companies charge for how much data is used, which can be broken up into phone calls, texts, and applications. Most carriers give 2-gigabyte data limit but one can upgrade for more and so up goes the price. If one exceeds the data limit, carriers will charge extra to one’s monthly bill. Data plans are sold in bulk and therefore force buyers to buy more than what is needed. About 38 percent of users do not use their portion. There is a lock in of a 2-year contract on most phones and a cancellation fee if you break the contract early. Times are changing to where companies such as Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile now allow users the freedom to upgrade to an one-year contract instead of a 2 year contract which may save a little money; however, Consumer Report says, “that many users stick with their carrier even if they are not satisfied” and thus are still paying the high prices to own the phone. Insurance is another option to consider. Consumers insure their smartphones just in case the unthinkable happens such as lost, broken, or water damaged. The phone can be replaced or repaired for a small deductible fee, which is usually about …show more content…
J.K. Shin is credited as the spokesman for this phone but not too many people know about J.K. Shin, who some say is Samsung’s Steve Jobs (Bloomberg). Choosing a cellular service provider can be a daunting task. Which carrier is right for your needs, is often the first question people typically asked themselves. What distinguishes one carrier from another? Which company offers the consumer more for their money? Americans spend billions of dollars each year on wireless service. Fortunately for consumers, the market is flooded with cellular providers and plans. All you need to do is pick one; but is it that simple? It's easy to become disoriented with all the data usage, GB, texting data, talk time, and of course monthly fees. Preforming some research may prevent stressful experiences before committing yourself to a two year contract. In times past prepaid was stigmatized as a "little to no credit" option for individuals desiring to own a wireless phone. This just isn't the case anymore. Primarily, most companies offer prepaid plans which would prevent shoppers from becoming lured into their lengthy contracts. By comparing AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, three of the leading carriers to a fourth rapidly growing company's prepaid plan offered through Straight Talk, any consumer should be able to select the right provider to meet their specific needs. Currently, the average consumer tends to review service plans presented by providers. Ideally, unlimited is what everyone seeks for but not all companies offer. Selecting a provider solely by their talk, text, and data plans merely isn't good enough. Consumers should dig deeper to investigate coverage, data, terms, rates, and overage. Subsequently, another question that should be asked is if a contract plan fits your lifestyle over prepaid. AT&T offers unlimited talk and text with no contract for $65 a month. It covers 2 GB of data for on...
This first handheld cell phone weighed 2.4 pounds and was 9 x 5 x 1.75 inches in size. For reference, the iPhone 6 is 5.44 x 2.64 x 0.27 inches and weighs just 129 grams (0.28 pounds). The first handheld cell phone also had only 20 minutes of battery life when talking. Once the phone battery was drained, it took approximately 10 hours to charge back up fully. As phones change, society changes along with it because people rely on their phones for everything. As phones develop people develop with them. And People have evolved to have everything they need right in their pockets.
There was a time when people communicated mainly through writing letters, talking on the phone, or speaking personally to others. Our communication capabilities and the dynamic of our social world has changed drastically with the introduction of electronics – especially cellular smartphones. In today’s world, hand-held cellular phones have transformed the way people communicate. While these devices have made us much more productive and efficient, they are causing our society to lose the important life skill of interpersonal communication. People can be seen everywhere fixating on their phones instead of interacting with others. Many are mesmerized by what they can do on their phones and are often seen using them while walking down the street, sitting at a restaurant during dinner, and even while driving. I believe cell phones are negatively impacting our society because they are harming our interpersonal skills, consuming our lives, and creating an imminent danger.
Ask anyone to name a few necessities that humans need to live in this world, and they’ll probably start to name items such as food, water, and shelter. Those who are a bit more bold might say a smart phone, computers, or even a TV. Are they wrong? It could be easily argued that they are correct in saying that those things are now important to have in day-to-day life. Phones and other technological advances are no longer a luxury for the privileged; they have become a necessity in today’s society.
Cell phones have made a big impact on the world, for example, people are using them daily, and they have influenced science, politics, and many more fields.
Tweets, texts, and the virtual world are beginning to engulf human society one message at a time. For the past ten years, the estimated phone usage per day has become three to four hours. Those precious hours add up quickly, resulting in a total of one hundred and twelve hours per month spent staring at an animated screen. Children, teens, and even adults are beginning to use their cell phones more and more, and are putting themselves at a greater risk of developing social awkwardness, little persistence, and becoming known as digital natives; all these traits driven within your hand held partner.
When it comes to smart phone market share in the United States, Apple still trails Android by almost 10%. But if you are to break out the market share figures then you will notice that IPhone reigns supreme by a very wide margin. According to a lot of recent data compiled by ComScore, Phone’s share of the United States smartphone market now is about 43.6%, followed by Samsung which is at 27.6%. Apples market has increased by 4% almost every year, while Samsung has been dropping by 4% almost every year. Although Apple is doing a bit better than Samsung overall, Samsung is still topping Apple with their Android. During the second quarter of 2015 Samsung took a 21.7 percent of the global smartphone market, with shipments 73.2 million units. A reason I feel Samsung is doing much greater then apple right now is their ability to have all these different features, which not only add modern things to their phone but also longevity. With the three new water proof phones that Samsung has come out with Apple has yet to release their first

The smart phones have affected our culture in many possible ways which leads to increase in personal efficiency and communication. Even though, smartphone can become a tool for constant connection with the world; the smartphone also makes people disconnect with the world around them such as friends and family. As Zackary suggests that “The invention and rising popularity of the smartphone has completely transformed our culture of socialization and interaction.”(2015) Smartphones are very powerful tools that can allow people to use many functions such as phone, text, internet, apps, games, and social media and so on. Smartphones are readily available and so easy to use that people are less willing to interact with another people more than their smartphone. Smartphone becomes a necessity for many people of their life because of their usefulness. We constantly see people who are using their smartphone more often, which a
The very first iPhone was announced by the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, in 2007. His vision was to reinvent the phone. iPhones have revolutionized smartphones and have shaped the cell phone industry into what it is today. On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs put together an incredible keynote presentation. He stated that he would be “introducing a wide-screen ipod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a breakthrough Internet device” (Ritchie, 2015). The audience assumed that this meant that Mr. Jobs would be launching three separate devices. However, it was only one device, the iPhone. Within the past 7 years, Apple has been able to tweak its iPhones by incorporating major redesigns. These redesigns use combinations
Dangers of cell phones to the health and safety on any one individual can be supported not only in opinion but fact as well. Opinions and research vary greatly on the negative aspects of cell phone usage, although most would choose benefits over that negative. While most consumers may appreciate the convenience and mobility of cell phones, the human body will not.
Every day of our lives, we watch as technology advances in leaps and bounds, so it was only logical when the cell phone came into existence, it would also be necessary to develop ways for a phone to be more than just a phone. With the explosion of the internet age people needed a way to bring their computers on the go, one that could fit in the palm of their hand. Whether it be checking emails, updating social networks or even playing games, smartphones seem to do it all. There is, however, a dark side to every technological advance that is made, to everything that makes our lives more convenient. Smartphones are not only an enormous distraction in our lives but are also known to cause health problems in those
Cell phones are wonderment 's of technological advances over time. Though when do Cell phones become a tool that could be used to cause suffering, like in this case getting me in trouble.
