Single Parent Struggle For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different. Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become more prevalent. In today’s society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows upon all human beings. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents versus children raised by both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents? Does a young boy need a father figure around? Does the government provide help for single parents? What role do step-parents and step-siblings play? With much speculation, this topic has …show more content…
This is an extremely scary statistic considering that fiftyeight percent of children in America are living in a single parent family. This is a chilling percentage because it shows how little faith is put into a relationship before actually deciding to have children. Unfortunately not all single-parents take the time to perform the vital tasks needed to raise their children. Parents who think they would never be able to provide emotional stability for their children by themselves should have taken the time to think this through before deciding to become parents. Accidents may happen once in awhile but in most cases adults know what is at stake when planning to have a child. Plain and simple, if you’re not ready, than don’t do it. If you do decide to have this child Polito 3 and you love this child, then you can be a good parent. There are many ways to enhance the well being of your child if you simply apply yourselves as parents. Magginnis later states that, “Boys who do not have fathers as male role models suffer especially”. While it is extremely important for a male child to have his
A long with having ten children my grandparents even though had many hard time to raise and feed their children, but had the aspiration of build a big future and to choose a career for them. As time passes children grew up in a huge family sometimes with some deficit, hardship and even with some depress while they had difficult moments. To overcome obstacle in a life for each child in their family was one of the main destination for their future. As my mom often remembers my grandfather used to say “When there is a definite goal, effort to achieve it becomes enjoyment”
to choose their future. Starting from success, family and their individuality has been taken. Furthermore,
The ideal American family has become diminished. In the 21st century only 46% of children in the United States live in that ideal American family. Meanwhile you have 15% of children living with a parent that has been remarried at least once. It may seem like 15% is a small number, but in actuality it is 8, 76, 00 divorces a year that is occurring.
Today it is common for children to be raised by just one of their parents,
Having both parents in a child’s life is essential. Furthermore, one could say the effects of being a child/children with only one parent, or neither parents, can cause psychological/heath problems, decrease cognitive/academic abilities, and lastly cause children to suffer from antisocial behavior. In other words, it is better to have both parents together and involved in your life. At the age of 8, I lost my mother. At first things seemed to be okay, but as the time dragged on, I realized that living with only my father was not only hard on me, but hard on him as well.
It is sadly not always the case. In some cases, the mother was not ready to have a child and rejects
The Family structure has changed significantly in the last fifty years. With higher percentages of marriage ending in divorce, and higher rates of childbearing out of wedlock, single parent families are increasing rapidly. “Seventy percent of all the children will spend all or part of their lives in a single-parent household.” (Dowd) Studies have shown that the children of these families are affected dramatically, both negatively and positively. Women head the majority of single- parent families and as a result, children experience many social problems from growing up without a father. Some of these problems include lack of financial support, and various emotional problems by not having a father around, which may contribute to problems later in life. At the same time, children of single-parent homes become more independent because they learn to take care of themselves, and rely on others to do things for them.
Raising one or more children by yourself is unfair and hard to witness as a child. When I was seven, my dad left my Sister, Mother and I. I don't remember much of my father, maybe I suppressed the memories or he just wasn't there to even create memories. There came day I asked my Mom what had happened to him. She
Although some people believe children who are raised with both parents receive more attention and better emotional support, this is not true in all circumstances. For example, it would not be beneficial for children to be raised with both parents who constantly argued and said very mean things to each other on the daily for the children to hear. When children are raised in households with nothing but violence, they grow up thinking these behaviors are ok and acceptable. This in turn might lead to the children growing up trying to emulate the lifestyle their parents raised them in. On the other hand, a child could be raised by a single parent who makes it their duty to do all the things necessary to instill the right morals and beliefs into
Talking through and agreeing upon having children are the first most important steps to succeeding in parenthood and marriage. Joy and unity are obtained by many couples who are well prepared for the dramatic transformation that comes with having a child. Through watching their child take their first step to their child’s Kindergarten graduation, parents experience a joy that cannot be found anywhere else. Parents also get to enjoy their child’s first lost tooth, seeing the look on their child’s face when they get their driver’s license and seeing their son or daughter get married among many other joyful moments. Couples who already have a strong relationship will be better prepared for the change that evolves when children arrive.

. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, “24 million children in America -- one out of every three -- live in biological father-absent homes” (108). This shows that many men today tend to leave the house and don’t take responsibility when it comes to taking care of their family, and put all the hard work and responsibilities on mothers. According to Mark Mather “The number of single mother families has risen over the years causing people to think that children who grow up without a father tend to be unstable in life (56). In my opinion even though having a father figure at home can be effective in raising the children, it is not a necessary factor in order for the children to be successful. Children can be raised without a father and still be
When one thinks of having children, he or she typically desires the “American Dream”: a big house with a yard, a perfect husband or wife, and four perfect children. The idea of having a conventional family is very appealing to most people, because it is what has been socially acceptable for a long time. There are many pros that go along with having a socially-accepted family. One has the love and support from his or her spouse, which is huge today, especially in the United States. In the U.S. alone there is nearly a 50 percent divorce rate (Divore Rate). Therefore, most people see those statistics, and realize that they want to be different and have their spouse by their side. To have both parents in a child’s life is important for the child as well. Studies show that by having both a mother and a father in a child’s life, the child is more likely to succeed in school, work related activities, as well as have better inter-relational skills. Yet, this does not mean that all children in un-conventional families are at a disadvantage, they can do just as well as the children that are in what we call “normal” families.
