Most people cannot go wrong with pursuing a higher education. How is college beneficial? College is beneficial for academic, financial, and social reasons. This is a highly debated topic. Some think that to benefit academically, financially, and socially, people do not have to go to college. On the other hand, some people think that going to college is the only way to do so. One way, college benefits individuals is academically. Individuals can benefit from college in an academic manner because they will have additional opportunities to become more knowledgeable. People will have greater opportunities to learn about life and academic concepts in courses that colleges offer. For example, colleges offer career specific courses. Although that is true for some, it is not true for all. Some would say that money is not everything, as long as they are happy. While that is true and happiness should hold a great power over people’s lives, for most, college will bring people happiness. There is a great percentage that individuals that attend college will still benefit the same if not more than those that do not attend college. As earlier implied, college is not for everyone and Isabel Sawhill and Stephanie Owen display that well in their essay, “Should Everyone Go to College?.” Owen and Sawhill say that people are actually doing some individuals a disservice by telling them everyone needs to go to college (Page 209, Para 1). In “Should Everyone Go to College?” they say this because they think it is necessary that people think about their likely education path and career path before investing so much money and time into secondary education (Page 212, Para 1). This is true, people should not invest a lot of their self before they have thought about where they want this to lead them. Even though everyone does not have to go to college to benefit in academic, financial, and social ways, for most, it certainly will not do anything but make them grow as a person and become more
Everyone knows that person from high school that just wasn’t cut out for college. It’s not a bad thing by any means, but if you’re thinking about heading off to college like many American teenagers often do, think about this: going to college can be a waste of both your time and your money. I’m not the first to say it, and I sure as hell won’t be the last. In Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill’s essay, Should Everyone Go to College?, the two authors take a strong economic approach to justify going to college. Owen, an ex- senior research assistant at Brookings’ Center on Children and Families and current research associate at the Urban Institute, a nonpartisan center for research on the problems of urban communities, and Sawhill, the co-director of the Center on Children and Families and a senior fellow in economic studies at Brookings, claim that the return on investment (ROI) of a college education is overwhelmingly positive on average; However, they also bring light
Many people find the higher education a child receives, the higher the amount of money he or she will earn. Others find it is a waste of time and money to go to college after high school because of all the loans they would have to make up for after college. Many people have different point of views regards to the importance of college. In the articles Is College Worth It? and Why College Isn’t for Everyone, Leonhardt and Matthews have different opinions on the importance of college. Leonhardt argues that college is worth it because one who earns a college degree will be financially stable in the end, while Matthews believes that college isn’t for everyone because of the high-cost teenagers and adults will encounter when it comes to tuitions and fees.
Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill, Owen a senior research assistant at Brookings’ Center on Children and Family and as well research assistant at the Urban Institute. Sawhill a co-director of the Center on Children and as well senior economic studies at Brookings. Expressed why is important to go to college after high school and what is the results of it in their essay “Should Everyone Go to College?” Owen and Sawhill made assertions of an ongoing debate that colleges can be pricey but down the road, our lifetime earnings will be more than what we paid the college cost and that sometimes individuals can’t afford to go for numerous of reasons.
College. Educational benefits that can help a person succeed in the vast majority of life’s careers. When I think of college, I think of hard work. I think of the dedication it takes to achieve a universal goal. Graduate with a degree that will further help to apply for a desired job. The course to get there may not be easy, but when the rich feeling of obtaining a diploma is near, it is more than worth the time. My road to success with college may differ from the average student. See, I am currently enlisted in the United States Air Force. To better understand my goals of college, one could look at the time and money it will take for me to graduate, how college benefits me, and more specifically, how English composition will better my future.
However on the other side of the spectrum college does have its benefits. A college places its students in real life settings away from home. It lets the students begin making decisions that they will deal with for their entire life.
One benefit of college is that you will have better self-discipline after you get out of college. This is true because people who don’t go to college only have a high school education in which they babied you to get you through. College allows people to grow and develop into more mature people. Once you have matured from college you realize you have to prioritize your life. Having a higher level of education will make you stand out on an application; if it is you and someone without a college education
How important is a college education? High school seniors should consider going to college because students who gain a college education often have higher lifetime earnings and a great quantity of other benefits. There are more employers who choose to hire applicants with college degrees. People who lack college degrees are more likely to be limited to basic jobs. Those with a high school education may obtain jobs with good benefits, but college graduates often earn better. Although going to college costs a lot, it is actually true that high school seniors should go to college because they’ll learn more skills that can be applied to their jobs and they’ll have much more benefits while having a career.
As the former president of Harvard University, Derek Bok wrote “The most obvious purpose of college education is to help students acquire information and knowledge by acquainting them with facts, theories, generalizations, principles, and the like. This purpose scarcely requires justification.” America needs educated citizens to help maintain the level of intelligence we have in society. Students need to be taught to their specific career and the knowledge needed in that career. Though education students are strengthened for their futures as good citizens. College is a more specialized form of the education they have received throughout their entire schooling and will need for their careers. College prepares students for the future by specializing
Ever had the thought of going to college? Many people attend college yearly to have a higher chance of becoming successful in life. Everyone has a different view of college, some thinks that college is a waste of time and some thinks that college is very valuable. Most jobs now days requires at least some college, without college people might not be able to get the job that they dream for. College is not a waste of time, it is very valuable and it gives you some benefits in life.
College education goes about the way to an effective future for people who are not kidding with it. Currently, a college education has turned in the base necessity in securing a job in different companies and although some people might think college is not worth the debt, in a long run it actually is.
When I began my senior year, the number one thing which people asked me was where I was going to college. Whether they actually knew me or not, that would be the first thing they asked once they found out I was in the final stretch of my high school career. Now, I obviously had a pre-planned answer for them, since I had answered the question so many times, but I always found it to be peculiar that people didn’t actually care at all about what I was going to do with my life; they just wanted to know where I was going to get my expensive piece of paper from.
It is easy to think college is not worth the cost to become better, but getting educated molds a better person, and creates happier people in the future and occasionally they become better in health (Leonhardt 25 ). Becoming a better and happier person is pleasing for everyone. Even former President Obama says “‘Education helps us be better people. It helps us be better citizens. You came to college to learn about the world and to engage with new ideas and to discover the things you're passionate about -- and maybe have a little fun’” (Procon.org). Learning and engaging in everything is a skill everyone should have, so like he said we should go to college to be able to do that. Additionally, education shows people to develop more intellectual skill and become more responsible (Pew Social and Demographic Trends). Thus said, being educated and smart is something everyone can do and college helps with that. Likewise, college can encourage someone to be more educated and happier. Reaching the point of happier and more educated is worth the cost.
Jayson Boyers stated that "having a college education can make big differences in some people 's lives" (The Huffington Post Newspaper, 2012). People who do college education often get high level and high paying jobs. The main reason for why students feel hesitant to attend college after they graduate from high school is because they worry about the price of schooling and they prefer to have a job instead to make fast money. Although, people who graduated from high school often are only able to receive jobs at fast food restaurants, clothing stores, etc. When people are able to earn more than enough money to have a stable life they are able to be less stress-free and enjoy their lives more. People who often work in retail jobs face the risk of not making enough money to buy food and also pay their rent. The money that people earn in retail jobs takes a very long time to save up in order to go to college. Alternatively, the world is very competitive and people, truthfully, do have trouble succeeding and even surviving day to day. The most recommended thing to do is to go to college after high school and take out a student loan if needed and pay it off when a career job is obtained. Working very hard now equals to a better life, job opportunities afterward, and positive friendships
College is a very important thing. If you go to college you will most likely get better pay in your career. Also, with a college degree, you have more opportunities. I believe that everyone should go to college. If you don’t go to college and just go into some job and that fails then you have no backup plan. A college graduate is more likely to be offered employment than another who didn’t attend college, if you have a college degree you will make more money in your lifetime than someone who doesn’t have a degree, if you are considering having children having a college degree is very beneficial to them, you have a higher chance of having better health yourself, college is very beneficial, and if you go to college you will have a better social
