If I were Sergeant Major of the Army, I would use my time in that position to better the United States Army is every possible way. The Army as we see it today is constantly trying to stay ahead of the power curve when adjusting to change to meet the realism of society as it currently stands and indoctrinating new troops to increase the fighting force for the Army of the future. When I last wrote a paper based on this same premise, the Army was drawing down like in manner not seen since the end of the Vietnam era. All over the Army there are certain installations that unevenly have certain quarters and standards of living for different troops. We serve in the same Army so conditions should be equal and improved across the board. I believe this improvement would give a much-needed boost to retention and aid in enlistment. Next, if I were Sergeant Major of the Army I would look to improve the Army’s height and weight standards outlined in AR 600-9. Too often these standards are not upheld and service members are able to parade around wearing what I believe to be the best uniform in all of the United States military and make are branch look like we are standard less. Like we have no standard for what a service member should look like in his or her uniform. I think adjustments to the height and weight standards and enforcement of those improved standards would remove those from service who do not take the uniform they wear serious and could careless to meet the Army standard. The person that is next in command after the Battalion Commander is the Executive Officer (XO). The executive officer’s purpose is to help the Battalion Commander to run the whole program. The XO will also help the Battalion Commander send orders to the rest of the staff and cadets. The XO must be hardworking, well-rounded, firm, and responsible. I think that the position of XO would be a good fit for me because I possess these characteristics. I hope that I will be able to implement new ideas such as new clubs and programs to give cadets more opportunities to be involved in JROTC. Staff Sergeant (SSGT) Louis Moeller shaped me into the Recon Marine I wanted to be and the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) that I am now. By embodying the Recon Creed and always setting the example, he made me want to be an NCO that my troops would look up to and want to follow. Even when not in charge he was constantly the one peers and junior Marines alike, turned to for guidance and inspiration. To this day, I still find myself asking “What would Louis do?” when confronted with a leadership dilemma.
Respect to me is admiring someone for their abilities, qualities, or achievements. I think respect is always earned an can never be given. As soldiers soldiers we should always respect our peers because they have made the same sacrifice as us. But as soldiers we should have a higher level of respect for our NCOs because they have done their time an have earned it. Being respectful is not hard it is simple, just treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves.
When I joined the United States Marine Corps, I knew it would change my life, but I never realized how great those changes would be. I was trained in public affairs as a print and broadcast journalist, and immediately stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Drastic life changes can take a toll both physically and emotionally over time, and it is always important to have a great personal support system to thrive through those times. That vulnerability not only weakens the strength of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response program, but I believe it also weakens the military as a whole. I wasn’t phased much at first , but then my fiancee decided she did no want to be with me. I sold cars for a short time and was very good but I got sick and with no health insurance and It was just too much to struggle through. I then was out of work for almost two years with exception of army reserve which earned me basically nothing with child support. My credit and all my bills went to straight hell and soon I was homeless. I slept in my car. I then decided to ask reserve for release to go full time active which was a chore in itself. Military life is like civilian life in many ways. For the most part you still work a regular job, you have to keep your life, housing, bills, car and other things in order. You will have a boss, work with other people, and have to exhibit initiative if you want to get ahead in your job.

The modern Military Intelligence professional needs to be an expert in his trade. Core competencies include commanding and controlling Military Intelligence Soldiers and combined armed forces during combat and intelligence gathering operations. Additionally, an MI officer must be able to coordinate employment of Military Intelligence Soldiers at all levels of command, from platoon to battalion and higher in U.S. and multinational operations. Further, an MI officer needs to be competent in all levels of intelligence gathering, particularly if they are an All-Source Intelligence Officer (35D).
