School Shootings Have you ever wondered why terrible acts of violence are committed such as school shootings? Why one man shot twenty children, seven staff members, his mom and then himself? Why two kids with evil intentions lead to thirteen innocent deaths and many more wounded? Dylan Klebold, Eric Harris, Adam Lanza and many others are involved in some of the most deadliest school massacres ever in history. They are a prevalent problem and need to be prevented before they even happen. The statistics for school shootings are alarming and it is hard to believe there are so many of them. Since December 15, 2012 all the way up to December 9, 2014 there have been a total of ninety-four shootings. Those include all unintentional, non fatal, suicides, as well as, fatal shootings; that averages to about one a week. This is a horrible fact and is shocking to actually study just how many there are. 70% of those school shooters were minors and 65% of the kids obtained their guns from home. Those statistics might make you rethink gun control. There have even been a total of six shootings in N.C. The effect on students from school shootings varies depending upon the severity of the incident. Of course one effect would be injury. This is a question many detectives asked themselves after the shooting. Evidence shows this may have been in retaliation for being bullied. Klebold and Harris were a part of an anti-socialist group called the “Trench Coat Mafia.” They played violent video games frequently which may have contributed to their violent behavior. Eric Harris was psychopathic, which meant he had a mental illness. This may have lead to his violent behavior and him wanting to lash out at the bullies who tormented him. Klebold and Harris’ actions forever changed society, one might say it even set an example for other killers, such as Seung Hui Cho, a shooter at Virginia
