Everybody watches television. Whether it is sports, news, or cartoons, everybody watches television. Television is part of the American lifestyle. One of the most popular late night television programs is Saturday Night Live, or SNL, on NBC. Saturday Night Live is every Saturday at 11:30 pm. The program started in 1975. With 39 seasons, it is still running today. The show is, “One of the longest running programs in television,” (“Saturday Night Live (SNL)”). Even today, the show always starts with its familiar catch phrase, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” The program is 93 minutes long and includes skits, musical performances from well-known as well as up and coming stars, and humorous, but informative, news updates. Saturday Night Live has revolutionized American television because of the success of the actors/actresses and comedians after their time on the show, how the show changed the viewers perception of television as being uninteresting, how the show saw struggles but continued to persevere to become successful, and because of the slight changes the show made in order to become successful, but still remained close to the original idea of the program.
Kristen Wiig, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, and Robert Downy Jr. all have one thing in common beside the fact that they are huge super stars. All of them started their careers from Saturday Night Live on NBC. The careers of the actors and comedians from Saturday Night Live usually evolve greatly from the time they start on the show to the time they finish. ...which is why it greatly impacted America and revolutionized television. Saturday Night Live went through a great deal of struggles in the beginning and it still does today, but it never gave up. It kept pushing to be the successful show it is today. It also changed who watched television because before this show, not everyone did. It was not popular to sit at home on a Saturday night and watch television. Saturday Night Live made that popular and acceptable. Lastly, the actors and comedians that come from the show are unlike any other and always amount to great success after their time on the show is complete. For these reasons, Saturday Night Live changed America and television for the better. Saturday Night Live is the type of show that could be watched by a grandmother and her daughter and both of them thoroughly enjoy it. That is what makes the program special.
