In 1491 a young man named Christopher Columbus landed on a land that the original people
called Tierra Del Alto Señor. Which means (Land of the noble land.) Christopher decided to rename is
San Juan Bautista. In honor of John the Baptist. But Spanish gave settlement too Juan Ponce de León.
Who then provided the settlement at Caparra and also became the first governor. In 1519, Caparra
decided to relocate to a nearby coastal to help with a healthier environment. Soon came the rename too
Puerto Rico which means (Rich Port). Keeping the capital San Juan. Due to the confusion over the
names led to the switch the island took the name Puerto Rico and the town became San Juan. Due to

With being surrounded by water, San Juan is the largest processing center the metropolitan border facilities for petroleum and sugars refining, and distilling and produces cement, pharmaceuticals, metal products clothing and tobacco products. It is one of the busiest in the Caribbean. Another benefit of haven San Juan as a captain it’s the country’s financial capital. Many of the United States bank maintain offices a distributing center right in downtown. With all the water and activity happen just in the center of San Juan Caribbean shipping makes this the 2nd largest sea port in the area. But New York City is number one. The highest temperate in the low to mid 80s and in the low to mid 70s at the higher elevations and this might be 55 to 65 the highest. But a breakdown of the weather is December through March are the coolest and direst. April and May are the warmer but thunderstorms are increasing. June is the start of hurricane season. July through September more threats of tropical storms. October and November are the calmer and starting to get cooler these are the transitions mouths. (‘’Climate in Puerto Rico’’) Some of the popular food and drinks that Puerto Rico are classic soups such as sopón de pollo con arroz which is chicken with rice. Then sopón de garbanzos which means chicken pea soup with pig’s feet. These are soups are very common at tradional restaurants. But at every restaurants they are severed and taste different due to what is added for looks and taste. What may please one restaurant may not please the other. Another traditional Puerto Rican dish is Asopao a good gumbo made with either chicken or shellfish. Even some chefs add their own recipe name it Asopao de pello means chicken Asopao. (“Puerto Rican Culture’’) Some of the main dishes in Puerto Rico carne guisada puertorriqueña (Puerto Rican beef stew). The ingredients that flavors the beef could be anything that includes green peppers, sweet chile peppers, onions, garlic, potatoes or capers. Depending on how seeded they want their food they might even include seeded raisins. Others might like calf kidney (riñones guisados) and stuffed beef tongue (lengua rellena). A party island dish is a lechón or a barbecued pigs. This is usually a party of 12 to 17. But for Puerto Ricans honor there chicken. They flower, season, eat it with just about everything. Rice, beans, make it sour or sweet depending on how they like it eaten or made. (‘’ Food and Drinks” ) For dessert can usually include flan or maybe even nisperos de batata. (Sweet- potato balls with coconut, cloves and cinnamon.) Many Puerto Ricans for desert have fruit sweet fruit they have grown in the garden if possible if not then from the closest supper market. Bread is another common dessert such as coconut bread with pudding (boudin de pasas con coco.) And for drink they usually finish there meal with a black coffee. And after a good meal some people even sit down and have a cold beer. (Legal drinking age in Puerto Rico is 18.) Then after a formal meal Puerto Ricans will have a glass of fruity wine or mixed drinks such as whit white run, orange juice and tonic water, gold rum, cocktails and sangría. The drinks will range depending on what they have ate or what they are in the mood for. (‘’Food and Drinks”) A lot of people are Puerto Rican in the music and art, in the most light of the industry such as Jennifer López (singer, song writer, and actor). Christmas is a holiday filled with tradition, family, and happiness, but what most people don’t know is that Christmas is celebrated all over the world, not just the United States. Latin American countries are especially passionate about Christmas. The way Hispanic people celebrate changes throughout each country. Each one has its own unique Christmas culture. In this essay I am going to write about some of these different countries, and tell how each one is similar and different in showing their Christmas spirit.

The hispanic culture has many traditions but another important one is el Día de Reyes and la Rosca de Reyes: It is a Mexican tradition that Mexicans celebrate. This used to be the real Santa Claus at least in Mexico and while kids aren’t complaining about getting gifts from both days, we shouldn't lose the beautiful tradition. Getting the family together to cut the Rosca de Reyes or Three Kings Bread, is a great tradition where if you get the muñequito or Niño Dios, and is found then you have to host a Tamal party on February 2 for the Candelabra.

The posadas are one of the typical events during a Christmas celebration in Latin America. A posada consist of walking and looking for a place where Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph can spend the night and rest before continuing with their long journey to Bethlehem. Two persons usually represent Saint Joseph and Virgin Mary. In this event, all the people of the community come and participate in this mini-recreation. All the people sing, pray, and even cry when asking for a posada. They use candles and incense to accompany these two Saints. They usually walk all over the neighborhood to find a place. They go from house to house asking for permission to stay and spend the night to rest. Part of a posada is to have people denied the use of their house. So Mary and Joseph continue with their search, until they get to the house that lets them stay. This house is usually decorated with flowers, jade, statue of animals and lights. La Isabela is known to be the first European colony in the new world. It is named after Queen Isabela. The expedition was lead Christopher Columbus and accompanied by about 1500 men along with supplies such as livestock, seeds for planting crops, and tool and supplies necessary to establish a colony. The expedition was lead in 1493, after Christopher Columbus first voyage from 1491-1492. When he first landed on the east bank of the Bajabonico River he encountered the Tiano Indians. He took some gold from the Tiano to convinced King Ferdinand and Queen Isabela to fund a second, larger expedition.
