Good nutrition is the bedrock of human well-being (Jessica C Fanzo, 2014). The assessments of capacity in nutrition to date highlight the global shortages, in quality, quantity, and geographic coverage, of an effective workforce for nutrition in the world (Jessica C Fanzo, 2014).
In 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Health is an amorphous concept. The word derives from the Greek word meaning “whole” and is defined as “wholeness, being whole, sound or well.” This idea of wholeness is open to wide ranging interpretation and can be seen to refer to the health of the individual, the community, or the nation. Public health nutrition refers to the population-focused branch of public health that monitors diet, nutrition status and health, and food and nutrition programs, and provides a …show more content…

Imbedded in the practice of public health nutrition are services and activities to assure conditions in which people can achieve and maintain nutritional health. This array of services and activities includes: Surveillance and monitoring of nutrition-related health status and risk factors, Community- or population-based assessment, program planning, and evaluation, Leadership in community- and population-based interventions that collaborate across disciplines, programs, and agencies and Leadership in addressing the access and quality issues around direct nutrition services for populations (Spark, 2007, Stein, 2014).
