Psoriasis is an incurable dermatological autoimmune disease that is characterized by red, itchy, scaly patches of abnormal skin that vary in size and severity.
In total, there are five different types of psoriasis: plaque, guttate, inverse, and erythodermic, or generalized. The first and most common type of psoriasis is plaque, this type is characterized by raised areas of inflamed skin covered in silverish-white to white scaly skin known as “plaques”; plaques are most commonly found on the elbows, knees, scalp, and back.
The second type of psoriasis is Pustular, which is characterized by raised bumps filled with noninfectious pus; the skin around and beneath these bumps is usually very red and tender. This type of psoriasis can be localized, commonly to the hands or feet, or widespread, with patches occurring randomly on any part of the body.

Unlike the other types of psoriasis, which occur commonly in any age range, guttate psoriasis occurs more frequently in young adults than it does in other age ranges. In addition, this type of psoriasis is usually triggered by a bacterial infection, typically of the upper respiratory tract. Inverse or flexural psoriasis is the fourth type of psoriasis that appears as smooth, inflamed patches of skin that selectively, if not solely, affect the folds, recesses, and flexor surfaces of the body. Examples of such surfaces include the ears, axillae, navel, and so forth. The final type of psoriasis, known as psoriatic erythoderma or erythrodermic psoriasis is a more generalized form of psoriasis that effects all body sites, including the face, hands, feet, nails, torso, and extremities. Along side these five, there are many additional types of

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin condition that features lumps under the skin that range from pea-sized to marble sized. This condition is also known as acne inversa. For my summer assignment, I read the book Skinwalkers by Tony Hillerman. Skinwalkers is about a Navajo police officer named Jim Chee. The story takes place on the Navajo Reservation spanning several states (Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico). Throughout the book, Chee works with Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn to solve three seemingly connected homicides. Over the course of the story, the Officers find several strange bits of evidence, such as small bones and strange stories about things happening around the reservation. As the case progresses, Chee and Leaphorn discover that the motive may be much deeper than just hate, it may have to do with witchcraft. As the story concludes, Leaphorn realizes that Chee has been led into a trap and rushes
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks healthy tissue and organs. This inflammation can damage many different bodily systems. Lupus commonly affects the joints, skin, kidneys, lungs, brain and heart. Many people with lupus have found relief for some of their chronic pain through practicing a few different styles of yoga.
Lupus comes in four different forms. They are Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Discoid(cutaneous), Drug-induced Lupus, and Neonatal Lupus. “Systemic lupus is typically the most common form of lupus and generally considered more serious than the other three forms”(www.lupusmn.org). Systemic lupus can also be called SLE(www.lupusmn.org). Symptoms tend to show among patients and c...
Melanomas fall into 4 categories. Three types of melanomas are categorized as in situ – meaning they affect the top layers of the skin; this category of melanoma also has the potential to become invasive and damage deeper skin layers, which happens over an extended period of time. The last type, known as invasive melanoma, penetrates deeper skin layers from the outset. Invasive melanomas are considered more dangerous as they have greater potential to spread (metastasize) to other areas of the body.
What are these red patches of skin on my body that I can’t ever help from scratching? It is eczema, which is defined as a medical condition in which patches of skin become inflamed, with blisters that cause itching and bleeding. The importance of skin-to-skin care for the childbearing family is that every newborn can benefit. Skin-to-skin is valuable because it promotes thermoregulation, cardio-respiratory stability, breast milk supply, and mother-infant bonding (Hugill, 2015; Baker-Rush, 2016; Gregson, 2011; Pigeon Turenne, Héon, Aita, Faessler, & Doddridge, 2016). The nurse’s role in skin-to-skin is to educate women and their families of its benefits. The nurse will be able to implement the carative factors of a teaching-learning experience with the parents, develop a helping-trusting relationship, as well as tend to basic human needs of the patients (Watson, 2008).
I have chosen to do my essay on the largest organ of the body, skin. It has several functions vital to the survival of the body as I will discuss in the following paragraphs.
The symptoms of psoriasis differ from type to type, although inflamed, scaly lesions are present in all five types. The most common form of the disease, plaque psoriasis, is identified by small bumps that begin to grow and become scaly. These lesions flake easily, but removing these patches can cause the tender skin below to bleed. In the Guttate type, small, individual, red drops form. This type does not have as much scaling as plaque psoriasis. The drops usually clear up on their own, but may also reappear as a different form of psoriasis, usually plaque. Inverse psoriasis usually occurs in places where the skin folds, such as the genitals, breasts, armpits or the backs of knees. This type will appear red, yet it will be smooth and dry. Also, no scaling will occur. Pustular psoriasis is a type that's significantly more rare. It is also more painful. In this type, blisters filled with non-infectious pus appear within a few hours and then dry up and peel within another two days. Severe medical risks exist for those who have this particular form of psoriasis, due to its side effects; exhaustion, anemia, weight loss, fever, chills, rapid pulse rate, severe itching and muscle weakness. Even less common than pustular psoriasis is erythrodermic psoriasis. This type is...

Tremfya is a biologic (a drug made in a lab from living cells) that prevents your immune system from going into overdrive and creating an undesired immune response resulting in inflammation. Asthma is a disease that currently has no cure and can only be controlled and managed through different treatment methods. If asthma is treated well it can prevent the flare up of symptoms such as coughing, diminish the dependence on quick relief medication, and help to minimize asthma attacks. One of the key factors to successful treatment of asthma is the creation of an asthma action plan with the help of a doctor that outlines medications and other tasks to help control the patient’s asthma ("How Is Asthma Treated and Controlled?"). The amount of treatment changes based on the severity of the asthma when it is first diagnosed and may be the dosage may be increased or decreased depending on how under control the patient’s asthma is. One of the main ways that asthma can be controlled is by becoming aware of the things that trigger attacks. For instance staying away from allergens such as pollen, animal fur, and air pollution can help minimize and manage the symptoms associated with asthma. Also if it is not possible to avoid the allergens that cause a patient’s asthma to flare up, they may need to see an allergist. These health professionals can help diagnosis what may need to be done in other forms of treatment such as allergy shots that can help decrease the severity of the asthma ("How Is Asthma Treated and Controlled?").
Gender is an understanding that ones designated by themselves. The skin and countenance were merely the covers and masks that portrayed a person physically. The Skin I Live In, directed by Pedro Almodóvar, delineates a man named Vicente having sex changed by the doctor Robert Ledgard into a woman with a face of his wife. Forcing to be transformed physically to the opposite gender does approve that Vicente loses his origin as a male. In this film, changing skins and sexual organs are the metamorphosis of mien which also made mental gender malleable.
