The ocean is an amazing thing and it is so terrible that humans are polluting all of them. As the human population grows around the world, so does the amount of plastic going into the oceans. According to Opensax, pollution is when contaminants are introduced into an environment (water, air, land) at levels that are damaging. (Openstax, Module 13;Population, Urbanization, and the Environment:The Environment and society) Human are polluting the world more and more everyday. There are mainly two ways that we get rid of the garbage in our homes, landfills and incineration. Both are not very good choices because they can release chemical toxins. Some people believe that these chemical toxins are creating global warming. Global warming describes long term temperature caused by human activity. The way we get rid of our trash, may cause this. Plastic and styrofoam, much of which we use, do not dissolve in a natural way. When these are burned, they release a dangerous chemical into the air called, carcinogens, which increases …show more content…

People are destroying the environment and we need to start doing something about it. I think it should almost be a crime if someone purposely puts plastic waste in the water. In this day and age many people are not worried about the affects their actions will have. Culture now is more worries about what they look like and the car they drive, rather than the air we breathe. Openstax states that sociological imagination is making the connection between personal challenges and larger social issues.(Openstax, Module 1;Foundations of Sociology:Sociological Imaginations) Throwing plastic out of your car everyday is a personal problem until all that plastic piles up and starts to harm the wildlife, it then becomes a public issue.
