I found American Occupational Therapy very interesting. An Occupational Therapy is not just a regular clinical therapy. They ask question like, “What matters to you”, instead of “What’s the matter with you”! There is a big difference in these two question. They are more concerned about how you feel then just getting the job done. Occupational Therapy or therapist assistants help people with expanding their lifestyle in participating in things they want or need to do on a everyday bases through therapy. Most Occupational Therapist works with children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recovering from injuries to regain skills, also providing support for older adults experience physical and cognitive changes. Occupational therapy is regulated in all 50 states. Different states has various type of regulation that range from licensure. With a Master’s level student, an occupational therapist has skills labs and clinical experiences. They learn about general anatomy that talks about the nervous system. They also studies physiology, movement therapy, adaption and trends in rehabilitation techniques. Mostly, doctoral programs are intended for occupational therapist who seek advanced clinical roles. OTD programs are more skilled based, than Ph.D. programs. To become an Occupational therapist you must have a Master’s Degree. Also state licensure is required; CPR or Basic Cardiac Lite Suport certification may also be necessary: Some employers prefer applicants with 12 years of experience.
