Fitzgerald uses Nick as a narrator because Nick Carraway interacts with every character in the book at some point. If Daisy had been chosen as the narrator, readers would not see the events leading up to the meeting between her and Gatsby. If Fitzgerald had chosen Myrtle to narrator the story of Gatsby, readers would be forced to see an unhonest depiction of Daisy, Tom, Gatsby and George. With Nick narrating the story, readers are able to see a glimpse into everyone’s lives and see how the story evolves. Nick’s role in the story is to act as a bridge between Gatsby and Daisy. WIth him being Gatsby’s neighbor and Daisy’s second cousin once removed, it gives a valid reason to be involved within the lives of these two. Readers can conclude that there is a past romance lingering between Daisy and Gatsby based on her reaction when she briefly heard the word Gatsby. “You must know Gatsby” “Gatsby” Demanded Daisy. “What Gatsby?” (Page 11).
