The Negative Effect of Technology on Humans by [insert name] Technology has an incomprehensibly immense impact on our lives. Humans have maximized on the reduction of human effort in many fields. We were able to translate this to a more luxurious life outside work, and we have reached a point at which technology might be having too much of an impact on our lives. Two main aspects of our lives have been especially impacted by technology: our minds and our bodies. In addition to its impact on humans as individuals, technology has heavily impacted our society as a whole. In both cases, we’ve made things very easy for ourselves. The mind and body are similar in that they need exercise to function optimally. At some points, humans need to decide not to reduce effort to a point where we can’t get enough exercise to function properly. Technology has become an integral part of society, and a main reason is how convenient things are. Everything is instant; almost all the information the world has gathered is public and at the tip of our fingers. Humans no longer have to wait to get trivial pieces of information; we are rewarded with what we want after staying on task for only a few seconds. This behavior has a negative effect on our attention span. It becomes harder for us to focus on things that require more than the amount of effort we normally have to give. Before technology, this effort was always there; now that we’ve reduced the effort so much, we’ve cut down on our attention spans as well. This isn’t the only negative effect advanced technology can have on our minds. We are more prone to distractions than we were before. Finally, technology has created a more passive society in general. In the past, a lot of effort went into trying to change things. Now, it has become very easy to elicit a reaction in many people all at once. People don’t have to be as decidedly for or against something to be a part of a movement, because many movements simply involve typing a name, e-mail address, and message to a local political official. The entirety of politics has changed; one’s image has become much more important than political intelligence. In conclusion, technology has had an astoundingly large negative impact on our lives. The mind and body of the average individual have been altered, and these alterations have changed society as a whole. Humans are becoming less fit to live, and if a change in progression isn’t made soon, the entirety of human civilization could be in extreme danger.
