Aside from the Super Bowl Sundays, the week of NFL Draft week is considered one of the most wonderful times of the year for the National Football League (NFL) in general. In particular, the 2018 NFL Draft did not only showcase today’s most promising college football stars who will become tomorrow’s most promising NFL football stars who are likely to revolutionize one of the nation’s most popular sport. In addition, the NFL also made its own headlines, regarding the 2018 NFL Draft. For example, the NFL announced that the 2018 NFL Draft will be broadcast on television networks such as ESPN and Fox. As a result, “ESPN executives were angry... ESPN created the NFL draft as a TV show 38 years ago and popularized it to unprecedented heights over the years.” (Gaines, 2018, n.p.) Furthermore, Gaines (2018) also expressed that ESPN executives also expressed anger when the NFL developed the competitive sport television network simply known as, the NFL Network and saw the network as a slap in the face. To its own surprise, a day after the first night of the 2018 NFL Draft, ESPN came out as the winner in the ratings section against Fox and the NFL Network, with 3.9 million viewers watching the draft on its network (Putterman, 2018, n.p.). Compared to Fox’s 2.9 million viewers and the NFL Network’s 1.5 million viewers watching the 2018 NFL Draft on its television networks (Putterman, 2018, n.p.). The NFL was effective in its communication of successfully broadcasting the 2018 NFL Draft, even though ESPN expressed anger towards the motive, the NFL came out as the winner by diversifying its way of showing the NFL Draft on various networks- Instead solely on ESPN and the NFL Network.
