Recommended: Importance of music
Music is ubiquitous and we are exposed to it every day: in the elevator, on the way to work and on the university campus. We have all been exposed to music at least once in our lifetime. Music is inspirational, motivational and can help us focus. Music can help college students stay alert and focused when they are staying up late cramming for tests or writing English papers. The same can be applied to athletes and why they listen to music before a game. Athletes want to get in the "zone" and music helps them achieve that goal. Music can also inspire us or help us through tough times when we are feeling down. My research question is, "Why does music motivate us or inspire us to do physical things we might not be able to do without it?" I found …show more content…
Physiologically, listening to music can also relieve some anxiety a person may be experiencing and this is one way a person deals with nervousness. Music is a way out of our world and clears our mind. The emotions we may feel, someone else (an artist) may have already experienced. For example, one day we may be feeling depressed, stressed out or feeling like giving up on the world, but someone else has experienced this feeling. These feelings are transformed and made into the motivating songs that inspire us to do better in life. For instance, in Linkin Park 's "Iridescent" there is an inspirational verse that says "Remember all the sadness and frustration, and let it …show more content…
Researchers believed that if a person was enjoying an exercise, listening to music during workouts may help sustain an individual 's workout regimen by increasing enjoyment, arousal control, which led to a decreased perceived exertion" (66). In the spring of 2012, researchers conducted a survey at a local collegiate wellness center. While there, researchers noticed that a majority of the people that went to the wellness center was carrying a personal music player. Researchers asked the people before and post workouts, what kind of music they listened to and if they felt more enjoyment while exercising with music. During their observations, researchers wanted to allow the participants to have the freedom to exercise at their own intensity and duration. Participants reported they enjoyed their workout with music than without music (66). The only problem the researchers faced was if the participates reported increase in enjoyment represented an increase in actual enjoyment. The researchers came to a conclusion is that music can be a source of personal motivation that can make exercise more enjoyable and help sustain/increase an individual 's power output
Should it be Allowed? Suppose an artist or band sold their music to a record label or landed a deal with a company. Should this be allowed? Artists’ music should be used in advertising. It offers smaller artists a chance for their music to get heard by a wider audience and it is accepted nowadays for bands and artists to put their music in commercials or promote products for sponsors.
Music’s influence is felt everywhere and it brings about a stir of emotions in many people. Whether it is something as simple as relationship trouble or something deeper and more profound, such as one’s cultural history, music serves as a stimulant to the mind and in other ways, a stimulant to the body. Such music as country, rock, reggae and Zydeco all succeed in stimulating the body and convincing it that dancing will only increase the satisfactory feeling that the music tends to give off.

Music effect on stress relief is due in part to it’s effect on mood. This may seem like a sentence within a sentence, but it is much more than that. When listening to classical music, one is brought into a state of calm. When listening to rap or faster tempo music, one is brought into a state of action. These effects all have to do with the power of music on our mood. Classical music, is the most effective at calming someone down. In terms of numbers, listening to classical music, as used in this study, was associated with a significant (5-5.6%, p<0.05) lowering of the resting heart rate and a consistent improvement of oxygen saturation (by 1-1.4%).(V K Paul1 #4.) These may seem like strange numbers, but they have a great deal to do with the topic at hand. Later on in the paper, it discusses more vividly into the terms of oxygen saturation and heart rate...
It is true that music has a compact link to our emotions. Music assists people to overcome the bad situations in their life, just like it did for Sonny, the barmaid, or some other people in the Harlem. Music has a tremendous effect on people’s minds because it makes them feel relaxed and comfortable, especially with the soft classical music. It helps distressed people stay smooth and peaceful. In fact, music is a remarkable way to ease stress.
After a hard day at work and a difficult commute home, many people just want to settle down on their soft sofas and turn on a CD. As the music fills the room, they instantly begin to relax. Stress melts away as they are taken in by the beauty of the music. Sound familiar? Probably, since all of us at one time or another have used music as a medium for relaxation. But scientifically speaking, how exactly does music help us relax? That in itself is a question worth exploring, and scientists are really not sure how music relieves stress. However, they do know that our bodies will naturally attempt to synchronize with external sounds and rhythms. Using this as a guide, experts in relaxation music suggest that we feed our auditory senses with music between the tempos of 60 to 90 beats per minute, as this is the ideal heart rate for relaxation. However, music that is enjoyable to you is as i...

What does music mean to you? Music is something that has been around for many years. It started out as just some drums and a few instruments, but has changed a lot over time. The dictionary defines music as “an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.” When I think of music I think of it has a story combined with instrumental sounds. Over the years, it has changed so much, some for the good and the bad. There are many different types of music and different emotions it will bring.
Music is one of the few things that has remained constant through the centuries this world has existed. Not only does music provide entertainment, it also has several effects linked to it. Music allows emotions of happiness and sadness to arise. From those emotions, physical effects, negative or positive, can occur. Music has a profound effect on the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical aspects of a person.
Music has always been a big part of my life. Music is not just a bunch of melodies, rhythms, and vibrant sounds. It is a comfort to me. The lyrics of a song challenge my intellect and the rhythms and beats affect my emotions. Music understands me when people don’t. At times it takes me back to an event in my life or even in history. Both consciously and subconsciously my mind remembers the emotions that are attached to a certain song. It can make me feel on top of the world or the complete opposite; music can change the atmosphere and also set the mood. Music has power over my human soul. It soothes it. I cannot imagine not having music to listen to. It is a powerful force and my love for it is incredible.
“Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.” Former US president Gerald Ford, said this in regards to musical education. He and many other people believe in having an education in music at some point in a student’s life. According to the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) says that Bill Clinton is a saxophone player (The Most Musical United States Presidents par 25)
In other hand, sound or music could cure one’s stress. Different people deal with different music; some people like rock metal, pop, soul music, jazz and so on. Music could let people’s mind feel calm as well relax. Listening to music can have a very relaxing effect on people’s minds and bodies, especially slow or quiet classical music. This type of music can have a beneficial effect on dealing stress. Relaxing is a way most important to settle down the emotion; when emotion calm and relax, stress will be gone away. As music can absorb our attention, it acts as a distraction at the same time it helps to explore emotions. This means it can be a great aid to meditation, helping to prevent the mind wandering. Greenberg Jerrold give example of how music make one clam, “When people are still baby in their mother’s womb, the heart beat always affect them through which it has bring calm and protective to them.” (2004, p.199). Hence, a sound, a rhythm, a beat has naturally direct send message to one’s mind that bring him calm, relax, safe just like a baby under protection of a mother.
Music can relieve certain medical problems. Parkinsons can be made better with certain musical rhythms. By listening and moving to regular rhythm patterns, people can overcome the effects of parkinson's (Sacks 1). Tourettes can also be made better or worse by performing or listening to songs, depending on what type. Migraines and headaches can be affected by music; again, better or worse. Relaxing or other certain kinds of songs can help out with heart problems. “A review of 23 studies covering over 1,500 patients found that listening to music ...
Even though in some cases music encourages isolation mentally and causes some people to be obsessive by inducing their love of a particular artist or musician, music, whether contained in the sound of the thumping madal-drum of Nepal or the harps of ancient Greece, is a medium which moves the heart of man far and wide. The first reason is virtually everyone has a favorite kind of musician, style, or rhythm. Secondly, music causes people to shift in feeling based off of its rhythmic patterns, tempo and volume. Music, whether contained in the sound of the thumping madal-drum of Nepal or the harps of ancient Greece, is a medium which moves the heart of man far and wide. Music somehow has become a significant piece of our lives and the definition of our society.
It has been justify by the researchers that music has a big impact on our emotions or mood. It is because of the rhythm and tone that we hear when we listen to music. When we listen to a rhythm, our heart beats actually begins to flow or synch with it. Tones are also highly significant, when you hear a pleasing tone and it is easy to remember you can do it actually. Music composed in a major key and usually sounds happier, joyful, lively etc. and music is also composed in a minor key normally sounds sadder, alone in darkness etc. Music may cause you to feel a lot of expression. and sometimes you can feel more than one emotion during a song. As the researcher sigth, music not only affects what kind of emotions we may be in, but we also seem to have a habit of choosing music based on the emotion we are already feeling.
