Have you ever experienced the excitement of mountain bike riding? You start pedaling and off you go on a mountain bike nature trail. At first, when you start pedaling going up that first hill your legs start to burn like there is no tomorrow. But, all of a sudden you reach that hill, and gain the confidence that you can do this. The next hill is bigger, and you need to remember to shift your gears while pedaling harder. “Mountain biking is not a series of obstacles, but a succession of opportunities. Every rock, every log, every hill offers an opportunity to better your skills and broaden your experience” (King and Kaminer 145). Aerobic fitness is an extra bonus for the mountain biker that increases the lung capacity and the heart’s size. The advantage of aerobic fitness gives the mountain biker their endurance and stamina. The mountain biker enjoys a great sport that creates endurance, stamina, and aerobic fitness, but the safety needs come first.
Furthermore, the safety of mountain biking comes first, and having the right equipment goes hand in hand with safety. The mountain biker needs to have the correct size bike, in order to escape chronic pain from mountain biking. There are many mountain bikes to choose from, and it depends on your budget. “Mountain biking is a great sport but it can also be a dangerous one so we always recommend wearing a helmet” (BikeRadar pars 5). The helmet should fit snug, and not block your vision. Another safety tip is to wear gloves with the fingers protruding about inch from the gloves. The gloves will protect in the event you...

...nd time again. Every hill that is climbed successfully as well as every log and rock is crossed gives the biker more confidence that they can accomplish other goals in life. The thrill of mountain biking creates the opportunities to excel, and the triumphs defiantly outwit the failures. In addition, an extra bonus to mountain biking is aerobic fitness that increases the flow of oxygen to the muscles and vital organs of the body. The person that is physical fit has the advantages of being stronger, as well having endurance and flexibility.

At 6pm on a Saturday evening, Sally and her parents were on their way to go skiing for their 20th time. The whole family was extremely excited and looking forward to this, especially since the place was somewhere they’d never been to before. As they were in the car, Sally was daydreaming about what the place would look like, and wondered if her worst fear would be there: ski lifts. Everything about this scared her. The car is out in the open, has no roof, and the ride could malfunction at any time. Since this unanswered question was on her mind now, she decided to ask her parents to see if they knew. “I’m just wondering, do either of you know if there are going to be ski lifts at the place?” Both of her parents paused in confusion but didn’t
The sport of mountain biking is one of the best active sports you can do for a number of fitness reasons and depending on what style of mountain biking you partake in, it can be also a great deal of fun as well as keeping you fit at the same time. People are usually unaware of how may muscles you use when riding a mountain bike, and how quickly you can burn calories off riding a bike as it can be an extremely good work out for the body. If you plan on riding cross-country along different styles of trails, riding a bike can be quite a task. So if you riding over a vast distance up and down hills, along slippery single trail it can be very exhausting on the legs and the lower back.
Have you ever looked off a gigantic cliff? Now imagine traveling 30 miles per hour on a bike with curvy roads with enormous cliffs on your side with no rails. This is exactly what I did with my family when we went to Colorado. From the hotel we drove to a bike tour place to take us to the summit of Pikes Peak. After we arrived at the building we saw pictures of how massive the cliffs were, but what terrified me was the fact they had no side rails. This observation was thrilling as well as terrifying. It was an odd mix of emotions, but I loved the adrenaline rush it gave me. My dad whispered to me, “ This will be absolutely horrifying”.
If you’ve read The Brave Ski Mom for any duration of time, you’ve probably observed that our whole family wears helmets: ski helmets, bike helmets, hockey helmets, lacrosse helmets and helmets while skateboarding. If we climbed, we’d wear helmets then, too. We LOVE helmets.
Life on the Road It’s fair to say that life on the road is something most people do not desire, as a way to live out their days; but a young man named Chris McCandless believed it was necessary to avoid the venomous grips of society. McCandless goes as far as to venture out to the rest of the United States and even crossing borders to achieve his true destination, Alaska. He shows us living such a life can hold many unique and wonderful experiences.
The cycling industry as a whole has a variety of different bikes that will work for any scenario out there. The first bike that the industry creates is the “road bike” which is a made for paved surfaces, triathlon or time-trial. Following the road bike is the “Mountain bike” which is made for dirt trails and rocky terrain. After the mountain bike is the “Cyclocross bike” they are for off season training, for professional bike riders. The bike has a heavy duty frame, with fatter and knobby tires. One of the new creations in the bike industry is the “Hybrid bike”, this bike has an upright sitting positions that has comfort amenities such as having a wide, thick seat and simple gears. Another part of the cycle industry is the children’s bikes in which have smaller wheels ranging from 19’’ and below. The newest creation in the cycling industry would be the “BMX bike” which are used for motocross events that have smaller wheels, knobby tires and are used for jumps and stunts. Cruiser bikes are used for rent purposes they have fat tires, big handlebars and a more relaxed frame for an upright riding style.
At sometime in every single sport someone is always injured or getting injured. However, of all of the sports, research has proven that motocross is one of the sports with the highest risks. Supercross is the second most dangerous type of dirt biking racing out there. The fast paced racing and the uncertainty of knowing what the racer in front of you will do makes this such a dangerous type of racing. Motocross is little less dangerous because most of the racing is outdoors, not indoors in a small stadium. But the most dangerous type of dirt biking is freestyle. The difficult tricks, speed, and the height of the jumps makes this the most dangerous type of dirt biking. The risk taking behavior is played out in a cat and mouse type games that rides engage in all around the nation. There are many different riders who will do anything to get that extra thrill to get that adrenaline rush. Even some of these riders drive in places that they aren’t suppose to, like non-permitted areas such as closed practice tracks or private land. Some motocross and supercross communities are trying to help riders with the lack of caring about boundaries learn that ...
My parents still tell me stories when my brother and I would fall asleep riding with them. When I was five I got a Mini Z 120 that was the best thing a five-year-old could get and let me tell you I rode the daylights out of that. I only hit two trees and one pickup and the house two times, dad was never happy about that, but then again I was only five. Then when I got older I would ride with my dad on the back and tucker would ride his own and then now and then I would drive with my dad with me. Then one day I was riding on my own. I was 13 and we got to Ventura and we had to get gas so we pull into the gas station there was a DNR sitting there. I didn’t have my

... fascination with distance, speed and time is categorically evident in the way that our cities are run. Dominated by machines that create both environmental and health issues. This review has attempted to outline the health benefits of cycling and critique them through scientific evidence. The evidence that Tranter, Bannister, Racioppi, Tight and Lindsay attempt to illustrate, is essentially a shift from a sedentary lifestyle to a more active one. Plato was perhaps well ahead of his time in stating that the "lack of activity [in society] destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it” (Plato, 427-347 BCE). This encompasses and summarises all the physical and mental impacts cycling plays on the body and this review demonstrates how easy it is to change this epidemic of obesity through cycling.
Cycling is a exercise that requires a lot of oxygen for the physiological balance between the energy used, therefore it is able to strength the heart, prevent high blood pressure. This exercise is known to be more effective then medication, because during the process of cycling it compress the blood vessels, speeding up the bloodstream, increasing the amount of oxygen in the brain, The inhaling of fresh air is able to make our brains more clear in making decision and feel a since of freedom in
Bicycles, the one way we got to move around as kids, and as adults it is the one way we get around too, because cars are mainstream. Safety is an issue when it comes to bicycling and that why the helmet is an important factor when it comes to safety for bikes. Every year, in the U.S, nearly 900 persons die from injuries due to bicycle crashes and over 500,000 persons are being treated in emergency departments. Head injuries are by far the greatest concern for bicyclists, causing one third of emergency department visits, two thirds of hospital admissions, and three fourths of deaths. There are other injuries such as facial injuries, which occur at a rate nearly the same to head injuries. It is hard to trust that helmets would be protective against head injury, but establishing the real effectiveness of helmets is important.

Recumbent tricycles are three-wheeled cycles that allow the rider to be in a reclined position while on the move. The pedals are usually at the front (attached to the front wheel) and not by the side. Unlike other common upright bicycles or tricycles, it allows one's weight to be evenly distributed in areas other than the back and buttocks making it more comfortable than its counterpart.
