A pop icon is someone or something that is greatly known and has an impact on society. Miley Cyrus has had an influence on the world all through the years. Can she be considered a positive pop icon or a negative pop icon? Miley Cyrus is a positive pop icon because she is independent, she is enthusiastic about her music, and she is not self-conscious. She has left the nest to spread her wings.

Miley was born as “Destiny Hope Cyrus”. ("Miley Cyrus Biography.") “Frequently smiling as a youngster, she obtained the nickname of Miley, which was directed from the word ‘smiley’.” ("Miley Cyrus Biography.") However, in honor of her father, she changed her birth name to Miley Ray Cyrus. ("Miley Cyrus Biography.") “As a young girl, Miley had her acting debut in an episode of her father’s television series ‘Doc’ in 2003.” ("Miley Cyrus Biography.") She played in the series ‘Hannah Montana’. She was the main character. She gained her nationwide popularity for playing that role, which was a teenage girl leading a double life. Also, she is so enthusiastic about her music that she pushes herself to do her very best. In addition, she feels she is just beginning with her music. Miley is not self-conscious. She is a confident woman who does not take criticism badly. Many people only see the bad in her, but they should give her a chance because she is proving herself to be a positive influence on her fans. People should not compare Miley on how she was in the past to how she is now. They should realize that she has grown up. Therefore, they should focus on her evolving identity.
