The 65-foot wide ceiling was painted in a such a way that, the viewer had to be standing at the farthest side of the altar wall in order to get the “best viewing point.” The whole story line of the entire ceiling was centered around the Old Testament; Michelangelo began with painting the Creation of the world and he finished with the story of Noah and the Flood. Michelangelo painted 12 female prophets around the outer edges of the ceiling, and in the remaining strip of the Ceiling at the center, he paints nine Genesis scenes, which included: the Creation of the World, Adam and Eve, and Noah, with 3 scenes from each story. All of these scenes were framed by a grisaille molding and statues in order for them to stand out from the other paintings. The colors in the painting have brightened up the whole chapel as a whole. The ceiling itself was painted a grayish and whitish tone, while the figures are painted different colors from pale to gold-bronze to very tan; it all depended on the person portrayed in the painting. The family lived on a stonecutters yard, which is where the sounds and sights of stonecutting were engraved into the mind of Michelanglo leading him to become one of the greatest sculptors in history. According to Marcel Brion, author of Michelangelo, “All day long he heard the sound of the saw biting into the stone, the blows of the mallet, the grinding of the chisel” (7). As you can see, Michelangelo was brought up in the atmosphere of stonecutting so he was almost destined to be one himself. Michelangelo later returned to his family in Florence ...
Michelangelo hovered around the couch where April lay, perched like a crouching lemur over the back as anxiety tightened his brow. Restlessness bit at his heels, and it kept him fidgeting on his feet. April's tossing did not help. If only he could read minds! Then, perhaps, he could do more for her . . .

The night Michelangelo Buonarroti was born, “Mercury and Venus were in the house of Jove,” says Vasari. This means that, according to a lucky star, Michelangelo could be expected to produce extraordinary works of both art and intellect. How true this turned out to be! Whether it was fate or coincidence, few haven’t heard of this world renowned and avant-garde talent. From painting to architecture and sculpture, it seems like there is nothing Michelangelo couldn’t master. Michelangelo is said to have considered himself a sculptor, but why was it then that he produced his sculpture with such a unique and striking depiction of the human body? Why did Michelangelo create such masculine forms, and was it self expression that provoked this intense artistry? There are many factors that can influence an artists creative process, but with Michelangelo the most prominent were most likely his religion, society, travels, and self perception.
