One might think that starting a soccer career at fifteen is crazy. Mia Hamm made this dream that most young soccer player have a reality. Hamm was very successful in her life and made a large impact on women’s soccer. Mia Hamm was an American athlete, star of the international women’s league, and showed the twenty-first century her talent.

Mia Hamm was born in Selma, Alabama in the year 1972. Mia has always plays against players that are older, bigger, more skillful, and more experienced[sic] (Hamm 3). Mia Hamm is the daughter of an air force pilot which means that she moves around a lot. Mia had a brother, named Garret, and he was always encouraging her to the best that she could be. Garret always wanted her to be involved in sports. Mia

found her love in soccer with the help of her brother and her family.
At the age of fifteen Hamm was the youngest player on the national team. She attended the university of North Carolina at chapel hill. Hamm played here as well as she played on the national team. While at North Carolina, she led the school and four national collegiate athletics association (ncaa) championship in soccer (“Hamm, Mia” 34). Soccer is extremely humbling in that respect (Hamm, Heifetz 23). Mia quotes this in her book. She was the first international star of the game (“Mia Hamm”). Mia Hamm was also very popular when she first became a star of the international team because of her beauty and her contract with Nike. Hamm's talent, good looks and an endorsement deal with Nike combined to make her a familiar face and a popular sports idol (“1999 National Event Wrap-Up”). Mia Hamm showed the twenty-first century how women soccer is played.

Mia Hamm was the star of the game with her record high goal scoring. No matter how many balls flew over the cross bar or were saved by the goalkeeper, I just kept shooting (Aron Heifetz 136). Idolized for this compassion and composure that she had for the game Mia was always first on the field and ready to play. Before you can win, you must have the will to prepare to win (Aron Heifetz 31). Mia Hamm was all about her mental game and preparing herself to do what is best for the team. Starr is saying that Mia focuses more on what she needs to get better on than what she has already better at. Mia is idol for many young girl now than ever before. She has inspired many young girls and boys to play soccer, but as Mia always said “theres no me in Mia” (Aron Heifetz 7).
In conclusion, Mia Hamm is always remembered as the girl who was on fire. Mia stared on the national team and was only fifteen years old. She set the stakes for young girl all around the world. Mia instpired many to be a great person with her composure for the love of the sport. Mia showed the twenty- first century who is boss, was a star for a college and national team and was an all-around American athlete.
