As we all know, America has a lot of people who do not look similar to “US,” and when I say this I mean, American made. There are several people in America who come from foreign countries and involve themselves in many activities that contributes to their standards of living. However, a lot of the foreigners are not legal in the United States and have the same rights as legal citizens of America. For example, Mexicans, Mexicans have “crossed the border” and made themselves a better life in the states where they have earned jobs, and started families. Many of the Mexicans that are in America are working in construction jobs and finding themselves ways to search for the “new life” that they want. United States citizens find this a problem that …show more content…
Mexicans can come over illegally and have jobs while they are at home “looking for jobs.” The problem is not immigration, the problem is that we have several citizens in America who do nothing but sit at home and watch T.V. or babysit their cousins, or are waiting to use the government’s benefits. Immigrants have the ambition to work anywhere that gives them a chance at working for that company no matter the circumstance. Furthermore, immigrants are helping our economy grow. The skills of the immigrants are useful within the states and we must realize that the more help we have, the more successful our nation can become. Owners rather choose immigrants to work for their companies because immigrants are willing to work for cheaper wages, and they will get the jobs done immediately. I agree with Barack Obama’s argument that we cannot send the immigrants back across the border there should be a fine in place for those undocumented immigrants because this is not the American way or realistic. It is agreeable that illegal immigrants should not be able to travel to the Americas and use the same benefits as legal citizens but, so many citizens complain about jobs when they have no ambition to work. Illegal immigrants are deeply involved with American values and etc. to where they have met qualifications as American citizens. All immigrants are not criminals or terrorists, many of them have traveled and are taking care of their families by working hard and earning everything that they may need. There is so much controversy about immigrants traveling over and using our nation’s benefits while people of the nation cannot benefit, but what about the immigrants who come over and get jobs that are taking advantage of them.
Immigrants do not complain, they consistently work so that they can achieve. I have referred to Mexicans a lot throughout but what about the Indians who own our corner stores and drug stores? What about those who are legal immigrants and take advantage of what America offers? We cannot blame immigrants for choosing to live in a nation that encourages all of its citizens to become prosperous. Personally, I do not know what is happening in Mexico, or India but I would leave my country if I could live better in another country with better benefits. The immigration reform targets those who have traveled illegally from foreign countries to search for new life and aims at sending them back. There are millions of people who have immigrated, why can’t we just force them to become legal immigrants. There are immigrants who have started families in America and have been here for a number of years, why send them back and have them leave their children? The solution should be to force them to become legal
immigrants. People across America consistently babble about “the American way,” because they fear competition. They want everything to be given to them and if it is not given to them, then they create tension between them and the government and advocate that their family members feel the same way. Donald Trump’s attempt in “building a border” does nothing but keep us in and create war. What about those of us who like to travel around the world and visit new places? What if they are traveling? He clearly hasn’t given that much thought because as the leader of our nation, our President, other nations would immediately execute him if he enter their country because they are not allowed to enter ours. I believe that everything that is happening right now is discombobulated because we are living in a society that oppresses all people. We should not diminish the rights of others because of their descents. For security reasons maybe, but everyone is not a terrorist. Building a border keeps a group of people in and a group out.
Have you ever been stripped of your heritage and treated like a foreigner in your own homeland? Hopefully not, but if you’re a Mexican American citizen then you may have an idea of what it’s like to be treated in such a manner. For many years, what is now considered to be the Southwest United States, was owned and inhabited my Mexican citizens. These people had lived on this land for generations, many making a living raising cattle and cultivating the land. However, due to Mexico’s loss in a in the Mexican American War, the country was forced to give approximately half of its land to the United States. According to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the inhabitants of the newly acquired land were to become citizens of the United States, and were
They face many issues such as economic instability, depression, loneliness, fear of being alone and feeling betrayed. Children feel depressed in cases like this because even at a young age they know that things are not okay. They also suffer from fear and being betrayed, they suffer fear because they 're scared of what is going to happen to their family since they 're so used to having their family together. Many times children who face this situations feel like they’ve been betrayed because they don’t know why their mother or father have gone away and not came back. The psychologist mentions that it’s very normal for children to feel this way and conduct a different behaviour than usual because just like everyone else they don’t seem to understand
For many Mexican immigrants, crossing the border into the land of freedom and the American dream is no easy task. Some immigrants come over illegally by means of hiding in cars to cross borders, using visitor visas to stay longer, marrying to become citizens, and having babies as ‘anchors’ to grant automatic citizenship. Other immigrants gain green cards and work visas and work their way into becoming US citizens legally and subsequently gaining citizenship through paperwork for their families back home. After escaping harsh living and working conditions in Mexico, immigrants come to America prepared to gain education, opportunity, and work. This American dream unfortunately does not come to pass for most.
“I do not believe that many American citizens . . . really wanted to create such immense human suffering . . . in the name of battling illegal immigration” (Carr 70). For hundreds of years, there has been illegal immigration starting from slavery, voluntary taking others from different countries to work in different parts of the world, to one of the most popular- Mexican immigration to the United States. Mexican immigration has been said to be one of the most common immigration acts in the world. Although the high demand to keep immigrants away from crossing the border, Mexicans that have immigrated to the U.S have made an impact on the American culture because of their self sacrifices on the aspiration to cross over. Then conditions
Did you know that according to the American Community Survey, that the immigrant population was more than 43.3 million in 2015? Many people come to the United States to pursue in a life of liberty, opportunity, equality, rights, and democracy. Throughout history, the United States has done a poor job in living up to these five ideals. Today, we still have trouble in upholding these ideals that our nation was founded on.
During the 1900’s through 1950’s the United States experienced an influx of immigrants coming in from Mexico seeking employment opportunities, as many of them wanted to avoid the Mexican Revolution occurring from 1910 to 1920. Methods for arriving in the United States varied for each individual’s preference of the destination, but the means of transportation had been constant throughout. These methods of transportation consisted of contractors seeking unskilled workers willing to partake in hard labor in steel, railroad, or agriculture companies. Contractors traveled to towns close to Mexico’s boarder such as Laredo or El Paso seeking Mexicans citizens for labors. In some instances, immigrants traveled on their own will based on the advice
The culture I was born and raised on was that of Mexican-American culture. My parents were born and raised in Mexico, and when they came to America and had kids, they instilled a hybrid of their culture, and American culture, in us. They were each raised in the Mexican culture, but wanted us to be raised as Americans also, and added this to our upbringing.
For many years, unjust treatment of Mexicans and Mexican Americans has occurred in the United States. Over the years, people like Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and Emma Tenayuca have fought to improve civil rights and better treatment for farm workers. The textbook that I have been reading during the semester for my Chicano History class, Crucible of Struggle: A history of Mexican Americans from Colonial times to the Present Era, discusses some of the most important issues in history that Mexicans and Mexicans Americans have gone through. Some of these problems from the past are still present today. Not all of the racial problems were solved, and there is a lot to be done. I have analyzed two different articles about current historical events that have connections between what is happening today and what had happened in Mexican American History.
The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. Matt O’Brien stated in his article “The government thinks that 10.8 million illegal immigrants lived in the country in January 2009, down from a peak of nearly 12 million in 2007.”(Para, 2).
Mexican Americans have quickly risen to become the majority population in the United States. The Mexican American population has grown so much due to the mass migrations they make from Mexico into the U.S. About 33.7 million Hispanics of Mexican origin reside in the U.S. as of 2012 (Pew Hispanic Center, 2013). Mexican Americans are considered the largest Hispanic origin population, making up two thirds of the whole Hispanic population to reside in the United States. As of 2010, 32 million Hispanics are Mexican American, with 11.7 million immigrants born in Mexico and 22.3 million being born in the U.S. (Pew Hispanic Center, 2013). Today, there are about 52% of Hispanics born in the U.S that have a least
Most of the United States (U.S) is comprised of immigrants—including those who have migrated to the States from another country and those whose ancestors freely travelled to the States in search of a fresh start. Every year, the U.S. grants a limited number of people around the world the opportunity to immigrate to the States each year. As a result of the restriction, citizens from neighboring countries cross the border illegally. According to an article by Jens Manuel Krogstad, 11.3 million unauthorized immigrants reside in the U.S. in 2014. This whopping number has stirred controversy both politically and economically for America’s government officials. As a result, many people argue whether illegal immigrants should or should not be aided
Immigration has been a topic that has caused multiple discussions on why people migrate from one country to another, also how it affects both the migraters and the lands they go. Immigration is the movement from one location to another to live there permanently. This topic has been usually been associated with sociology to better explain how it affects people, cultures and societies. Sociology has three forms of thinking that are used to describe and analyze this topic. There are three forms of thinking that are used to tell and describe immigration to society; structural functionalist, symbolic interactionist, and conflict theory. Each of these theories uses different forms of thinking and rationality to describe and explain socio topics.
Its people like Donald Trump that try to give them a bad rep just because they need someone to blame and that seems like an easy target. Immigrants are made to look like they come into America and take Americans jobs. I have always said that if an immigrant who doesn’t speak English comes and seals a job from you it was never really your job. Immigrants come to America to have a better life but most of them get low wages and no benefits but to them it doesn’t matter because it
Many immigrants from all over the world join us every day to work hard for a better life. Currently in our political campaigns for the presidency, one candidate strongly stands against allowing foreign people into this country, so much so, he wants to build a wall. People come here to work hard for a better life; it’s these hard working people I inspire to become. A portion of the people who (may not be blood to me) that I consider family moved here from Cuba leaving everything behind. These same people, now own homes in some of the most expensive and widely known cities in the state, work for hospitals as upper-level leadership and also managed to raise wonderful children who are now public service men and women. From the bones and backs of hard working immigrants, this country was built in order to have freedom of many things, as well as the ability to blossom into successful people that give our communities hope, safety and love to
Do you believe immigrants should not come into the US? Would you close the doors on an innocent family coming to the US in order to help their family? I believe that not only should we allow them to come to the U.S for only their benefit, but I also think they could benefit us (the U.S) as well. First, what is immigration? Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. When people immigrate, they often bring their families, they don’t often get involved with the government although since they come illegally at times. The immigration of the families shouldn’t be looked as “harmful” because many families come here for their families, to help benefit their futures. As a matter of fact, maybe the immigrant is choosing
