Mao Zedong’s Impact on the World Today and Today’s Society As the founder of the People’s Republic of China, creator of the Report on the Peasant Movement in Hunan, co-founder of the Chinese Communist Party, and “mastermind” behind the Great Leap Forward, (http://cla.calpoly.edu/) Mao Zedong altered the lives of millions by affecting not only China as a whole, but also the freedom and rights of everyday Chinese commoners, children, and peasants (http://www.wcl.american.edu). By executing and sending millions to labor camps, creating famine in China, and transforming China into a communist state, Zedong significantly changed the world.

Zedong did this by creating government movements and revolutions as well as initiating a communist government which moniters every move the Chinese citizens make (http://www.wcl.american.edu). Mao describes a revolution as a “not a dinner party, nor an essay, nor a painting, nor a piece of embroidery; it cannot be advanced softly, gradually, carefully, considerately, respectfully, politely, plainly, and modestly. A revolution is an insurrection, an act of violence by which one class overthrows another. ” (www.princeton.edu) . During the Great Leap Forward, Mao’s campaign to boost China’s economy from 1958-1962, Zedong encouraged the peasants and citizens to melt their metal pots and pans to increase steel production, and the government gave you food depending on how much you work (http://chronicle.uchicago.edu).
