Lebron James, a basketball icon throughout probably the whole world, is just a freakish athlete on the basketball court that every team within the NBA wishes they could have. His basketball road to the NBA wasn’t easy, but with his work ethic and perserverance, there was no way he was stopping. The life he lived as a kid was similar to some with family issues, but with basketball he was a high school celebrity that lived a life not every athlete at that age can.
Lebron James, born December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio. Life was often a struggle for LeBron and his mother. Gloria battled personal problems during much of his childhood. Some of those were brought on by the death of her mother, who passed away when LeBron was an infant and his father was an ex-con who did not want to be a father, so Ms. James was on her own raising Lebron as a single mother. The only problem was that Lebron’s mom could not provide that much because of her financial situation so he was taken in by his fourth grade Pee-Wee football coach, Frankie Walker.
Embarrassed by his home life, he didn’t make friends easily. And thought he wanted to do well in school, focusing on his studies was difficult.
He found an outlet for his emotions and intelligence in sports. His favorite sports were football and basketball. For LeBron, another advantage of living with the Walkers was his friendship with Frankie Jr. The two ran with four other boys—Sian Cotton, Dru Joyce III, Willie McGee and Romeo Travis. Together they formed a terrific team on the basketball court and began getting recognition around Akron. December 21, 1891- The birth of basketball. It has been changed from simply shooting a soccer ball into a peach basket to dunking a seven pound, leather ball into an iron rim. In the early years of the game, basketball was not as popular as other sports. In the 1985 NBA draft all this would change with the emergence of a 6'6" basketball phenomenon from Wilmington, North Carolina. Due to the mark Michael Jordan has left on the world as the “G.O.A.T.”, it will be very difficult for any player to surpass his legacy. Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James all have similarities of Michael Jordan but, out of all three players James is the closest. LeBron has the most similarities and the potential to surpass Michael Jordan’s legacy with his personality, stats and he popularity on and off the court. Even though James has the potential to surpass his legacy, there is still a very long journey ahead of James if he ever wants to be considered the “G.O.A.T.”.
First, we will celebrate LeBron James’s accomplishments in the NBA. There are over 400 players in the NBA. Most people do not know Lebron James’s story. LeBron James basically grew up without a father. His father was arrested several times for drug problems. His mother struggled with finding a job and battled with money to provide for her family as a single mother. Going to bed hungry was not uncommon for LeBron James and his siblings. LeBron wanted to make a difference in his life and his families’ life (“LeBron James’s life story”). Our culture today classify the athletes as “insanity,” but each of these individuals were completely lively.
A perfect athlete should make an impact on the world and use his or her talents to influence and encourage less fortunate people. For example, the NBA 2016 MVP and one of the best basketball players of all time, LeBron James. James always credits his fellow teammates and family for his success and returned home to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to victory for 2016 NBA Championship. Another major team player who has made an impact is former NFL (National Football League) linebacker, Ray Lewis.
