    Did you know that lacrosse was originally used to prepare men that are going to war, it is also the fastest growing game in the United States. Through the years lacrosse has become popular and safer in many countries across the world.  (Origin & History; Templeton).  
    The game of lacrosse was started in the 1600s. It was first played by the Native American men and was originally called “stickball.” The Native’s had a certain week were they would just play there games. This week were they would play games was huge to them. They would last about several days and would play many games one of the main ones being lacrosse. They saw them playing while working in the valleys at St. Lawrence Valley. In 1636 a french called Jean de Brebeuf wrote about the game and what he saw. As time went on lacrosse started to become bigger and more popular in Canada. Some people who knew the game even did demonstrations and showed how it was played. In 1856 a Canadian dentist named Dr. William George Beers started a lacrosse club in Canada. Lacrosse later became Canada’s national game in 1860. Queen Victoria watched a lacrosse game being played in 1876 and called it “pretty to watch.” During 1883 a team of Iroquois did a tour and went to Scotland. When this tour was happening, they were spreading the word of lacrosse and how it could be played. A demonstration was done by the Caughnawaga Indians around 1884 in Montreal, Canada. To start the game you have to do a faceoff. A faceoff is when the ball is tossed into the air to start the game and the two people have to fight for it. Now with the modern lacrosse the field has boundaries and if the ball goes out of bound the other team receives it. The game goes like this each player has a stick and there is one ball that's gets passed around and shot. The objective of the game is to get as many goals into the net as possible. Some of the first equipment was the ball which was made of  wood and later replaced with deerskin filled with fur and debris. The earliest sticks and were made out of branches or twigs and the net was made out of deerskin sinews. In 1937 Robert Pool invented to double sided stick. What the men would do to know which men were on each team they would paint their bodies a certain color. When the game starts after the faceoff whichever team gets the ball first the other team can check that person. A check is when you take your stick and hit the net of the other person's stick so the ball falls out and you can get it. While you have the ball to keep it you cradle the ball.
