Kwame Nkrumah
Ghana has a great history and this history began on the hand of a man called Kwame Nkrumah. He was the first and the best president of Ghana. Most of Ghana's population think he was a hero and did a lot for his country and worked very hard to raise his country and nation up. To some people, Kwame Nkrumah was nothing ,but a loser and did not do anything in his life. And they also think he ruined their economy and he is responsible for their troubles till now. Now who is Kwame Nkrumah?
Kwame Nkrumah was born in 21 September 1909. He was the leader of Ghana and its predecessor state, the Gold Coast, from 1951 to 1966. Overseeing the nation's independence from British colonization in 1957, Nkrumah was the first President of Ghana and the first Prime Minister of Ghana. For the following five years he worked as a teacher in several schools in the Gold Coast including a Roman Catholic school in Axiom, while he was saving money to continue his education in the United States of America. In 1935, Nkrumah sailed from Takoradi, Gold Coast, to Liverpool, England, and made his way to London, England, where he applied and received his student visa from the American Embassy. He was the only child of his parents. His father worked as a farmer for 31 years while his mother was bread maker.

...0s he gradually lost his heroic stature both among his own people and among his fellow leaders. He lived his last years in exile. This remarkable life story, which touches on many of the issues facing modern Africa, will open a window of understanding for the general leader as well as for graduate and undergraduate classes.
He started explaining how GB was turning Ghana into a big gold mine and a bigger plantation, how GB was making all the money leaving nothing to Ghanaian and Ghana ,and how GB will never help Ghana become a modern industrial country. Speech after speech, he kept travelling and, delivering until he united the whole country under his leadership. He had the welfare of Ghana in his mind. And now and after all of this I think that Kwame Nkrumah was and will be the best president Ghana have ever had and all of us are sad because the loose of him.

Alas, in 1961 Patrice Lumumba was assassinated by a US- sponsored plot 7 months after independence, and replaced him with a “puppet dictator named Mobutu” (Kingsolver). In her book, Barbara Kingsolver surfaces a forgotten part of our nation’s history in the exploitation of the Congo through her main characters, the Price family, who are missionaries sent to the Kilanga village. Through characters’ narratives that “double as allegories for the uneasy colonial marriage between the West and Africa” (Hamilton, Jones), Kingsolver creates a relatable way for her readers to understand the theme she is trying to convey, which is “‘what did we do to Africa, and how do we feel about it?’” (Snyder). Kingsolver began with this theme and developed the rest of the novel around it, just as she does with her other works, and sticking with her trademark technique, she utilizes her book as a vessel for “political activism, an extension of the anti-Vietnam protests” she participated in college (Snyder).
Nelson Mandela was a leader who was able to make change occur by having self-discipline and an aim for achievement. Not only did he want change so he could live a better life, but he also wanted change for his people. His desire for change and to help others is an example of his personality. Therefore, Mandela’s personality is a perfect example of the conscientiousness factor of the psychological perspective of the Big Five Personality Dimensions developed by Paul Costa and Robert McCrae.

For this assignment I chose to write about Jomo Kenyatta. After reading chapters three and four of Khapoya’s book, it was hard to imagine an Africa that wasn’t under colonial rule. I can only comprehend on a very basic level the impact colonialism had on the Africans economically, physically, and mentally. It is inspiring to read further and discover the immense, calculated, and passionate efforts that many Pan African leaders played in the years that followed. I found Jomo Kenyatta to be particularly interesting. For many reasons, Kenyatta is considered one of the most significant leaders of the Pan African movement in the twentieth century. Kenyatta had a clear vision of what he wanted for Kenya (or Africa as a whole), he was prepared for the path he would have to take, and he accomplished much for the country and continent as a whole.
