The Autumn of Terror happen in the 1888, where prostitutes were murdered in Whitechapel. They nicknamed the murder Jack the Ripper by a letter that he himself wrote and signed it “Jack the Ripper”. Jack the Ripper is a very captivating and mysterious topic. So much so, that many people have tried to figure out his identity. The fact is, he eluded many in his time and in the end, the list of suspects was just too many to narrow down to one person.
Whitechapel, during the year 1888, was the lowest of the lowest place you can go to in England. Whitechapel is also known as the breeding ground for criminal, prostitutes and homeless. Whitechapel had over 230 doss-house that is a place is where dozens of strangers might sleep at. Also, Whitechapel was known for a center for depravity, degradation and disease. Whitechapel is filled with women that have lost their husbands or just can not support themselves, so they turn to prostitution in order to live or provide for their family. Because of the nature of the town and the people who reside within, it was the perfect place to commit these gruesome murders. The murders happened around sometime in August, there are only five victims that are accepted by the police of Whitechapel. Many believe that there is many more victims than five. They say that there is about 10 -15 Jack the Ripper victims. Let’s focus on the five victims that are accepted by the police.
The first murder happened on August 31, 1888 : the victim's name is Mary Ann Nichols. Mary Ann Nichols was a middle-aged prostitute. About 40 years later he returns to Broadmoor, where he confesses where he has been the past 40 years and that he was in London at the time of the murders. He wrote down where he went and with the dates. He was diagnosed a Paranoid Schizophrenic. He was skillful with a knife. It is also possible that he killed the prostitutes for revenge.
In conclusion, there is still too much unknown facts about some of the suspect to pin it down to one person. They still have no idea who is Jack the Ripper and will most likely never will. There are many theories on who the Ripper come be. Will Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman ,Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly ever know their murder? Is Jack the Ripper Carl Feigenbaum or James Kelly? Will we ever know?

Investigating Why the Police Were Unable to Catch Jack the Ripper I believe the most important reason why Jack the Ripper was so hard to catch was because of the lack of evidence. In those days they did not have as advanced technology as we have today for instance, we have forensics where we can tell from a strand of hair who that hair belongs to. In those days they were only just learning the significance of footprints to catching a villain. Another part to this is that Jack the Ripper was so random towards who he killed the police could not find a link between the murders except that they were all prostitutes, which did not really help, although prostitute murders were not terribly uncommon. The press coverage to the case didn’t help much as they had forced the police to investigate ‘Leather Apron’ and this wasted a significant amount of the police time which, if spent properly, may have allowed them to uncover more information needed to catch the Ripper.
The town of Halifax in West Yorkshire had never experienced such a manhunt in it’s history (Glover 3). During a short, but long lasting in feeling, time period in late November through early December in the year 1938, the town of Halifax underwent a period of mass hysteria. A mysterious “slasher” hid in the shadows and lunged out with a razor blade at people who passed by (Halifax Slasher).

Countess Elizabeth Bathory is known as the most vicious female serial killer. Coming from a noble family in Kingdom, Hungary, no one really knows why she went out of her way torture hundreds of women. Either way throughout about a 20 year time span, Bathory spent her time not only ruling multiple castles, but taking in innocent women and children of the local men and women and making them her own. “Bathory and four collaborators were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of young women between 1585 and 1610” (Wikipedia 1).
After looking at all the evidence and how the mystery really unfolded, Joseph Mumfre is the first and only realistic suspect we will look at. The evidence thus far all points to him, and it is not a coincidence that the murders stopped after Mumfre was shot dead. Mumfre was in and out of jail, all during the course of the killings, and all the evidence, including the police, frame Mumfre for being the axeman. Now we will look into more of what the evidence shows and look at more of an
...ed dead in the Thames River (Schachner). A jury ruled his death a suicide by drowning. Investigators of the case believe that Druitt could have been Jack the Ripper, because around the same timeframe he committed suicide; the murders stopped (Jones). John Douglas noted that serial killers do not suddenly cease their urge to kill (Anderson 69). That would logically explain why there were no more murders were committed.
He killed women in several different states. The number of victims he had is still unknown to day but some believe it ranges from 30 to 100 women. Also, no one knows exactly why he began his killing. Psychologists have a few leads and theories of what may have set him off. They believe maybe it was because of the way he was raised and the environment he grew up in. Another, reason he could have become such a prominent murderer in the US is because of his broken relationship he had with a girl in college. The most possible motive he had may have been his obsession for
Murder is murder, or taking the life of another person. Repeatedly taking the life of other people is killing in a serial way. Serial killers are those individuals who repeatedly murder other people. There have been thousands of nameless serial killers, but none more famous than Jack the Ripper. The 1888 maliciousness of Jack the Ripper became one of the very first investigated, and most widely studied, serial murder cases, that established the protocols that are still used today to investigate these heinous crimes. The name Jack the Ripper has instilled fear in the public since 1888, and is a name that is synonymous with serial killing. Jack the Ripper set the bar by which all other serial killers are judged, studied, and

Jack the Ripper is a mythic figure comparable with Frankenstein and Dracula. The Rippers first three murdered whores, in 1888, were believed to be by the same person. These murdered victims all seemed to occur around the Parish Church of Saint Mary, also called “the White Chapel.” (Fido…1)

Published 24 November, 1888 in London, ‘The Whitechapel Monster’ is a large, elaborately illustrated ephemera that appeared in The Illustrated Police News, a weekly newspaper that is noted as one of the earliest British tabloids. The page, which is covered in crosshatched illustrations depicting melodramatic and lurid scenes, even goes as far to feature prominent sketches of this Whitechapel Monster, otherwise known as Jack the Ripper. Along with these sketches of the Ripper at work, it also features portraits of inspectors and witnesses. This image undoubtedly was made not just for the sole purpose of informing the people, but to also inspire fear and cause more interest in the Whitechapel Murders (1888-1891). This very in-depth illustrated page from The Illustrated Police News is currently held by the British Library, and
