Iron Jawed Angels was definitely the most impactful movie I have ever seen. Before seeing this movie, I did not know the history behind the rights that women in our modern era have. I did not realize how much I took that for granted until seeing this movie. It made me realize that without people who society views as crazy because they are passionate about a cause, then nothing would ever change. One of my favorite parts of Iron Jawed Angels was when the girls were talking about how many people who have changed the world were once viewed as insane. This film really made me appreciate the people who have the courage to stand up for what they believe is right even in the face of opposition. After seeing the movie a week ago, I still can not get the image of Alice Paul being tortured in jail out of my head. Watching that made me very uncomfortable but grateful at the same time because of how much she cared about women’s rights. I tend to not live from a feminist standpoint but seeing this movie made me realize that much of what I take for granted in life like my freedom is due to feminism. This will definitely help me in this course because now I can see that feminism at its core is about more than just issues at home and work. …show more content…

Gendered Lives says, “Women’s rights activists marched and spoke at rallies, enduring stinging social disapproval for stepping out of their domestic roles. First-wave activists engaged in peaceful nonviolent protests and hunger strikes. They were jailed, mistreated, and violently force fed” (Wood). This describes just some of the hardship with Alice Paul went through. She also put off getting married and having a life of her own because she did not want to stop until women could have “it all.” And that is exactly what she did. Women won the right to vote 1920 because of the hard work of Paul and the other suffragists on her side
