Internet Effects on Today's Society
Since its beginning days in 1969, the Internet has been changing society dramatically. Between social media, online shopping, and even online dating, it's affected society greatly. But it is for the greater good? Or is there a cyber-hole that is just getting too deep to handle for the world? The Internet is actually improving social anonymity, businesses, and higher education.
In a serious ironic twist, the Internet is actually improving anonymity as a human. For a great example, would a typical human of today's general public even consider walking up and talking to an extremely disfigured or even mentally challenged person? Chances are slim of such an occurrence. However, with the internet, the disfigured or challenged being can express their ideas, socialize, and even share life changing advice without being second guessed ("The Internet"). However, such anonymity scares humans and the government, but Johnathan Zittrain explains with an example after the WikiLeaks attack by stating:

In the essay “Where Anonymity Breeds Contempt” the author Julie Zhou demonstrates the negative impact Anonymity in the internet has had on human beings. Following with a convincing argument for unmasking these “trolls” of the internet.
I remember the first time I sat on a computer; it was an IBM with a windows 98 installed. We didn’t have Internet connection at the time, and we mainly used our computer for work. The Internet has been around for almost half a century, it has helped us humans communicate easier, get around the world accessibly and exchange goods and services effortlessly. The Internet helped us facilitate a lot of tasks; in the past we had to do a lot of work to get something we needed. Nowadays all of what we can possibly want can be done with a click of a button. The Internet can enhance some of our cognitive abilities; understand thoroughly what we want to know, new concepts and different ways of acquiring knowledge and eventually sharpen our brains to live better.
We define internet anonymity as a state where an individual feels like he/she is not being tracked, recorded or viewed whilst using the Internet. Why is this topic important? The internet affects everyone in a way or another. According to Statista, there are 3.17 billion Internet users worldwide. In a Triple Canopy article entitled “anonymity as culture: treatise”, Auerbach states that before the advent of the internet, “there has never been a space where participants are mostly if not totally anonymous and interactions are evanescent, disappearing within hours, or minutes.”
One of the problems with social contemplation on this subject, though, is that this situation is relatively unknown to history. Though the power structure of the internet has been compared to centralized government, decentralized government and social anarchy, Jess Holbrook, in a discussion on November 24, accurately cited the internet as being "unlike anything else we’ve ever seen." So perhaps time should be taken to evaluate the effects of the internet on not just the nation’s youth, but the nation in general. While the evaluation is taking place, the presence of these social poisons on the internet must be recognized.
Internet anonymity is the ability for a person to interact with others and voice opinions without revealing his or her true identity. This can be accomplished in several ways, including clearing cookies, encrypting e-mails, creating usernames that do not identify any personal information, and even giving false personal information, if possible (Raine et al.). Today, anonymity is used for several purposes for both the benefit and detriment of society. While it is true that anonymity can be used to threaten and harass, is also allows
The new age of technology was born late last century in the form of the silicone chip. Since this early invention computers have progressed in leaps and bounds from the very basic early models to the now very complicated and very powerful computers of today. In between this growth the Internet developed into a mega market where billions of dollars are traded daily. It is a place where you can pretty much buy and sell anything you can think of. But with the development of such a powerful tool there are always going to be problems such as pornography, hackers, dodgy chat rooms and authenticity of information. But like with any argument you have to weigh up the good with the bad, the internet provides you with a wealth of information so that you can find out much on many different products, allows businesses to function so much more efficiently, there is also the availability of online learning.
The internet as we all know is probably the most useful resource known to man in this day of age. Not only is the internet easy to access its easy to use. Nearly everyone owns a computer and nearly all of which have access to the internet. But isn't that a good thing? Millions of people having the ability to access and share all the information anybody could ever want.
Accessing the cyberspace is the first right should be granted in order to have privilege of and exercise the rest of the human rights on the internet. The internet has a very big impact in people’s life and what they have become today, especially with all the opportunities this medium provide for them to exercise their basic human rights. It has allowed the freedom of many voices to be heard in ways that was merely impossible before this revolution. Not only it has given people the rights to express and associate, but also the right to education as it allows to access many educational materials. In fact, accessing this virtual place has become a necessity to fulfill many other human rights including the right to work, and the right to take part in country’s government. Therefore, internet access should be a public right that ensure information and internet accessibility, usability, and availability for all people regardless of gender, place, and income.
Have you every taken the time out to compare how life was before there was a such thing as social media? Before social media, newspapers and magazines were used to get the latest news. Today online magazines and newspapers are used instead .Encyclopedias and books were used to gather factual information for research and projects. However, Wikipedia has turned into the new encyclopedia and e-books are used rather than checking one out from the library. Before, in order to send mail to a distant friend or family member, one would have to go to the local post office and mail the letter off. Today, it is much easier for one to just send a quick email, facetime, or simply send a quick text on Facebook. In earlier years, playing usually means linking up with the neighborhood kids and actually playing outside. However, today playing consist of sitting infront of the television playing some type of video game and or scrolling down the phone screen on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Social media is a growing problem that causes society to think less on their own, influence their way of communicating and writing, and hinder children's school performances.

In the last few years, social networks have exploded in popularity. Web sites such as Facebook and Twitter have dominated how societies communicate. People cannot seem to get enough of social media. The sites influence many parts of people 's lives. There are both good and bad sides to this phenomenon. It is a question of whether the positives of social media outweigh the negatives. On one side, social networks provide an easy way to connect with family, friends, and loved ones. The ease of communication is the main draw of sites like Facebook. With the kind of information sharing present on Facebook, problems can arise. For example, identification theft and abductions can be assisted with information found on Facebook. Is the ease of communication present in social networks worth the risk of having a great deal of information available for anyone to see?
Noam Chomsky, a political writer and professor of linguistics at MIT, states that, “The internet could be a very positive step towards education, organization and participation in a meaningful society, ("Peace Netter: Noam Chomsky"). This quote stresses the importance and relevancy of the internet for society today as we grow increasingly more dependent on it. As the internet continues to advance in its abilities and relevancy, it serves as both a catalyst or spark and a crutch in our everyday lives. Even though some people use the internet for bad purposes, the internet has advanced aspects of society such as giving people access to information, increasing communication, and providing entertainment to relieve
The internet has influenced, and is still influencing the way society communicates in many different ways. The rise of the internet has caused people to communicate differently in areas never dreamed of before the internet came into existence. Education has been revolutionized through the world of the “Information Super Highway”. Medicine has also seen reform as the internet improves research and communication. Individuals are starting businesses from scratch, while others are selling household items for extra cash. This internet “typhoon” sweeping the globe has become a way of life for many individuals all across the globe.
The Impact of ICT on Society I will talk about how ICT has effected people from all walks of life, how it has effected jobs and living conditions. = == == ==
Computer technology not only has solved problems but also has created some, including a certain amount of culture shock as individuals attempt to deal with the new technology. A major role of computer science has been to alleviate such problems, mainly by making computer systems cheaper, faster, more reliable, easier to use.
