Joseph Penaloza-Soto Ms.Antongiovanni English III 4-1-14 One must know the background of soccer to understand how it has evolved into what it is today. This includes equipment, regulations, and exceptional players. Without knowing and understanding the components that make up soccer, never will it be understood on why it is one of the most respected sports in the world. Soccer has it’s own history just as other sports, but differentiates when it comes down to it’s rules and required equipment. Unlike other sports soccer is played and viewed all around the world from which the best players came from. Soccer’s history goes as far back as to B.C. There is evidence that around 5,000 through 300 B.C. the Chinese military would play a game involving soldiers kicking a leather ball, stuffed with fur into a small hole called Tsu Chu. The Japanese had a similar game called Kemari in which two through twelve players participated and kicked a larger ball stuffed with saw dust instead of fur. The Chinese and Japanese came together in 611 A.D. to play the first international game recorded, in the records of soccer and sports. In Mexico and Central America around 600 through 1600 A.D, the ball made out of hard rubber was first used. The purpose for the players was to put the rubber ball in a wooden or stoned ring mounted in the middle of each wall. In Eastern Britain their first considered soccer game was when one kicked the head of a Danish Prince who they conquered in war. In 1331, King Edward III passed a law to stop the game due to its increase in popularity. Later in 1424, King Jones I passed a law to band the game from being played. In Italy of 1500, a game called Calcio was played for which teams of twenty-seven or more players kick... ... middle of paper ... ...l in any type of condition. When choosing a pair of gloves one must look for the gloves that offer the most protection and are most comfortable to prevent any injuries. One must also look for durable gloves since the gloves may be used in distinct conditions. Shin guards are made to protect the player’s shins from any possible contact with another player’s cleats. The purpose of the shin guard is to take the impact of a hit against the player’s shin preventing injuries. The first shin guard ever used was made using leather. As time passed the shin guards were created lighter but still heavy compared to the ones of today. An ankle protection was added to some of the shin guards to add more protection to a player’s leg. Today shin guards are made from different materials to maximize its protection, also shin guards are made in various sizes for different heights.
