Again the definition of monotheism as presented in round one is "the doctrine or belief that there is only one God."
Consider the following verses from the Bible that imply the existence of other Gods
A: Genesis 1:26 "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:"(1)
Notice that it does not say and I God will make man in my image, and after my likeness.
B: Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."(2)
Notice that it does not read I am the only God and worship me.
C: John 10:34 "3 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?"(3)
There you have it out of the mouth of Jesus Christ himself saying gods, as in plural.
This leads to the conclusion that despite “Christians” believing in monotheism. The Bible teaches the idea of Henotheism.

Henotheism: “the worship of a particular god, as by a family or tribe, without disbelieving in the existence of others.”(4) D: Consider the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians chapter 8 verses 4-6 “4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”
Paul here eludes that there may exists other “Gods” however that for “us” (Christians) there is one God. Christians believe in what is called the “true” God. This does imply that there are no other Gods, just that there is a “true” God or in other words the God you should
follow. E: Jeremiah 10:10 “But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king”(5) The Bible teaches that followers of Christ can become Gods. Consider the following Scriptures. F: Philippians 2:5-6 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God."(6) Paul even talks about becoming a God Through Christ G:Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”(7) He teaches that we are Children and heirs of God H: Romans 8:16-17 “16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”(8) Conclusion of what the Bible teaches A,H: “Let Us make man in Our image.” We are the children of God…” B,D,E: “No other Gods before me” “as there be gods many, and lords many,” “the Lord is the true God” C,F,G,H: “ye are gods” “thought it not robbery to be equal with God” “high calling of God” “Joint heirs with Christ” If the Bible teaches that we are children of God, can become like God, are warned not to worship other Gods then the Bible does not teach monotheism.
is mention of only one God, a being that created the earth and skies, as
Christians, unlike Muslims and Jews, accept and submit to Jesus as God who came down to earth to save mankind from their sin and eternal consequences. One of the main goals or themes of the book of John is to prove or recounts Jesus’ claim that He is God. The book of John is full of many examples where Jesus following his miracles wishes to make people understand that He is God. He wasn’t just a prophet as many Muslims believe, or some speaker, or radical Galliealiean as many Jews thought. He was God! In (John 10:30), Jesus stated, “I am and the Father are one.” This short verse mentions two members of the trinity, and does not separate them as different entities. Jesus is saying I am a form of who God is, or the Father. We are one! “Whoever has seen the son has seen the father.” For this reason, the Jews almost stoned him on that occasion. Their hardened hearts had chosen not to believe, and so they were insulted that a man standing right in front of them had proclaimed himself to be God. Another time Jesus proclaimed his divine existence comes from (John 8;58). “Before Abraham was born, I am.” Again the religious Jews almost killed Him for daring to state that. This man had the nerve to call himself and identify himself as what God had identified himself to their beloved and sacred leader, “I Am.” Not only that, but he stated that before Moses and Abraham existed, He already existed. Yet scripture always backs itself up, and had (John 8:58)
the creator and source of everything. Not only is He the source, but he is the
...y recompense to repay every one according to what he has done;, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and last, the beginning and the end.” Christians always knew that there is only one real god, a true god who is merciful.
Monotheism became different than previous “national religions” where the one god worshipped is more important than the other gods; instead, it is one true god that demands devotion - and for the Israelites, only Yaweh
‘There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus’ (Galatians 3:28),
The Pharisees’ were the religious leaders of the Jews, and most of the time, in the New Testament, they were associated with the scribes. They were extremely influential and were very popular with the people. They taught some sound doctrine, but by Jesus’ day their sect was nothing more than empty religion and useless practices. (Jensen, 46) The Pharisaical view was monotheism, the belief in one and only one God. The word monotheism comes from the Greek word monos, which means one, and theos, which means god. Thus, monotheism is a belief in the
only one true God and He has the earth, the sky, you and me and all of us" (121).
In Christianity one of their primary beliefs is the idea of a Triune God, which means the belief of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as one entity not three separate beings. This would result in God being indivisible and could not be divided into three different parts for an ...
There is only One God who is purely spiritual and does not take human form.
The conception of God in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam is monotheism, the belief in the existence of a single indivisible God. The three of religions maintains that there is only one God, who is active in and concerned about the world. These religions are also patriarchal, male-dominated, which has resulted in God being described as “He.” However, how Christians, Judaism and Islam conceptualize God in their respective theologies is actually quite different. In Christianity, God is the supreme creator and ruler of the universe. Christians believe God is infinite, omnipotent, all-powerful, perfect, personal, eternal, unchanging, holy, all-knowing, and all-loving. Their idea of God is shown in the belief of the Trinity. God is one, but with three aspects: God is Father, the creator, ruler, and sustainer of all life, and divine judge; God is the Son, who is Jesus, God made incarnate and savior of humanity; and the Holy Spirit, who is God working in the world. Both Muslims and Christians love and respect Jesus, however, the major difference between Islam and Christianity is the Christians insistence on the supposed divinity of Christ. In Christian scriptures, God never claimed divinity while the emphasis in the Islamic theology of God is “absolute unity;” God is sublimely one. Muslims think that by believing in the Trinity, Christians believe in three Gods. For them, God is One God. Judaism views the existence of God as a necessary prerequisite for the existence of the universe, and the existence of the universe is sufficient proof of the existence of God.
In the beginning of the Bible in the Book of Genesis, it is revealed to use in 1:26-27 that God has created man in his image. The text verbatim states “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” From this distinct text we can clearly conclude that when ad created man and woman, they were destined to be in God’s image and carry his image throughout his creation. Today we can see that many of us do not live in God’s image due to society becoming more secularized as it progresses through the years, however as Christians we can verse this by living in God’s image in our chosen vocations, churches, and even in the secular world.
Meanwhile, in the Christian faith, diversity finds its unity in God Himself. In God we find one being in three persons and the ground for unity and diversity. He points out that there are hints of the Trinity in the Old Testament and that monotheism is assumed in the New Testament. He is able to provide good support for these points with biblical verses and deeper explanations of them. That is not to say that this can now be clearly accepted as matter of fact, which is proven so by the controversies over the years within the Church.
I would like to begin this paper with saying that I emphatically believe that there is only one God. I do not believe for the health of ones spiritual life that entertaining the thought or existence of multiple deities is an intelligent decision. Those that believe in multiplicity of Gods can be found in many different religions including but not limited to Christianity. I grew up being taught these false teachings about who God was and how he operated in the lives of his followers.
