Health and wellness is defined as taking initiative of making healthier decisions to further benefit one’s life. Wellness is about living a life full of personal responsibility and therefore taking proactive steps for one's entire well-being. To improve our wellness as well as our health, it is our responsibility to eliminate any risk factors. With that, as individuals should take the information being provided to us and use it to make proactive choices to further benefit our health for the future. Personally, the problems I’ve always had with my health is not eating correctly, not enough exercise, and not enough sleep. Not eating healthy has always been a bad habit that I have. The problem I have is that I work a lot and most of the time I don’t have enough time to go to the store or cook anything, so I end up resorting to foods that are quick and on the go. I tend to skip meals as well, as a result of working a lot, and to compensate I tend to snack throughout the day. When I stopped playing sports, my diet …show more content…

This directly affects various dimensions of wellness including physical, mental, intellectual, and emotional wellness. I live a busy life, I go to school full time, as well as work at night to make ends meet. My average length of sleep is about 4-5 hours every night, which is far below average. When I don’t sleep, I notice it’s hard to focus on tasks at hand, lowering my productivity as well as retain information throughout the day. “Sleep deprivation prevents your immune system from building up its forces. If you don’t get enough sleep, your body may not be able to adequately fight illnesses It may also take you longer to recover from illness. Long-term sleep deprivation also increases your risk for chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease.”(Weatherspoon, 2017).
