Ninety percent of Americans have experienced a headache at some point in their lives. Only four percent of the entire Earth’s population has never experienced a headache. This is not surprising since there are so many different types of headaches. The two major groups of headaches are primary and secondary. The primary headache group consists of Tension Type Headaches, Migraines, and Cluster Headaches. The secondary headache group consists of Cervicogenic Headaches, Posttraumatic Headache Syndrome, Medication Overuse Headaches, Sinus Headaches, Postdural Puncture Headaches, Temporal Arteritis, and Headaches in the elderly. These various types of headaches can have different effects on the body and some can become more painful than others.
Primary headaches do not have an underlying causes and they are episodic, which means they come and go. The most common type of primary headache is the tension type headaches. This type headache affects more women than men. They are mainly a result of stress, but can also be caused by fatigue, not eating, smoke, smells, weather changes, and alcohol. They can last anywhere from thirty minutes to seven days. These type headaches can cause moderate to severe bilateral pain in the whole head or neck that is constricting and nonpulsatile. There is reported tenderness to muscles and tendons around the head, lack of sleep, and the pain is dull and throbbing. They cause little disturbance to daily activities.1 The second most common type of primary headaches are Migraines. Migraines can be episodic or chronic depending on how often they occur.2 Most people who experience a migraine will experience it before they reach their forties. These headaches most affect women who are in there reproductive ye...

...along with a few exercises for four to six weeks should help to decrease the intensity and frequency of the patient’s/client’s headaches as a long term outcome. If not, the patient should visit their primary physician to see about other options that might be beneficial.
There are many different types of headaches because so many factors can cause them. Each type of headache has different characteristics that the primary physician must examine to determine the exact type of headache. With there being so many different headaches, there are various medications that individual can take to help bring relief to the pain. Skilled physical therapy can be beneficial in relieving headaches for a longer period of time. In closing it is important to see a physician to determine the type of headache an individual is experiencing so that a proper treatment can be decided.
Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalalgias (TACs) are highly interesting to me: This group of unilateral, excruciating primary headaches is accompanied by ipsilateral cranial autonomic symptoms and comprises of three major forms:
Physicians can only give palliative treatment for fibromyalgia. The primary goal of palliative care is to prevent secondary illnesses and alleviate patients’ suffering. What physicians offer are the so-called remedies even if they give prescription drugs. When a doctor prescribe analgesics, it does not mean this can ultimately cure the syndrome rather give temporarily relief to patients.
The number of children below the age of 19 are treated in American emergency rooms for concussions and other traumatic brain injuries increased from 150,000 in 2001 to 250,000 in 2009. That’s not cumulative, that is actually per year. Everyone should know how and when to treat a concussion, no matter if it is for sports or in general. Concussions can come from anything. Concussions can be an easily preventable injury, however due to poor equipment, a competitive mindset, unrecognizable symptoms, and untrained sports physicians, they are becoming quite common and can lead to potentially fatal brain disorders.
Hardaway India Ms. Olsen Anatomy and Physiology 20 May 2014 Fibromyalgia Fibromyalgia is a syndrome where a person has long-term, body pain and tenderness in their joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissue. This is a disorder that can also cause muscle pain and fatigue. Those with fibromyalgia have "tender points" in the body. Tender points are places on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms, and legs. These points will start to hurt when pressure is applied to them.
Each year, U.S emergency departments treat an estimate 173,285 sports and recreation concussions. During the last decade concussions increased by 60%. Fewer than 10% of concussions result in loss of conscious. Most people recover from a single concussion. Multiple concussions take longer to recover from. The concussion Clinic at Nationwide Children’s Hospital utilizes the expertise of pediatric sports medicine, physical medicine, and rehabilitation specialists.
Fibromyalgia is an extremely disabling condition associated with chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain and reduced pain thresholds (Wolfe et al., 2010)(Kelley et al., 2011). Observational studies have shown that over a 12 month period 25% of men and women surveyed over the age of 65 will consult a primary care physician for musculoskeletal pain (Jordan et al., 2010). Overall, between 46% and 80% of people over the age of 65 report experiencing pain on a daily basis and 15% of women and 10% of men over 50 report widespread musculoskeletal pain (Soldato et al., 2007; Thomas et al., 2004). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated in xxxx that fibromyalgia patients generated $6000 per patient per year in healthcare costs where as another recent study of administrative claims found that fibromyalgia healthcare costs may exceed $18,000 per patient annually (Wolfe et al., 1997). In a population study of ten chronic diseases, fibromyalgia was highest ranked for healthcare not received in the previous year and in long-term disability, pain, and poor self-rated health by survey participants (Kasman and Badley, 2004).
Epilepsy, also known as “seizure disorder,” or “seizure attack,” is the fourth most common neurological disorder known to mankind, affecting an estimated 2.3 million adults and 467,711 children in the United States. Unfortunately this disorder is becoming far more common and widespread worldwide. This staggering number of cases of people suffering from Epilepsy also involves an average growth rate of 150,000 new cases each year in the United States alone. Generally, many of the people who develop who are a part of the new are mainly either young children or older adults. Your brain communicates through chemical and electrical signals that are all specialized for specific tasks. However, through the process of communication, chemical messengers, also known as neurotransmitters can suddenly fail, resulting in what is known as a seizure attack. Epilepsy occurs when a few too many brain cells become excited, or activated simultaneously, so that the brain cannot function properly and to it’s highest potential. Epilepsy is characterized when there is an abnormal imbalance in the chemical activity of the brain, leading to a disruption in the electrical activity of the brain. This disruption specifically occurs in the central nervous system (CNS), which is the part of the nervous system that contains the brain and spinal cord. This causes an interruption in communication between presynaptic neurons and postsynaptic neurons; between the axon of one neuron, the message sender and the dendrite of another neuron, the message recipient. Consequently, the effects that epileptic seizures may induce may range anywhere from mild to severe, life-threatening ramifications and complications. There are many different types of seizures associa...

Migraines, which are three times more dominant in women than in men, are characterized by frequent attacks of moderate to severe, painful headaches that are often associated with nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to sound and light. This headache pain typically occurs on one side of the head and is described as pulsing, pounding or throbbing pain lasting 4-72 hours if left untreated. Migraines may also present with or without an aura (sensory warning symptoms).1
Chronic migraines are a disease that has affected my life and the life of someone close to me. The illness has added stress, frustration, anxiety, and responsibility to my mother and our family. Migraines are a real concern that hinders the lives of hundreds worldwide. Primary migraines are a strenuous sickness, which creates negative experiences and prevent migraine sufferers as well as their families from living normal lives. This condition has changed my life for the worse and has prevented me from living without weariness and stress.
Head injuries are very serious and dangerous. Some head injuries can cause neurological brain damage. They are commonly found in the sports world, putting athletes at risk. There are a lot of head injuries that are dangerous or could cause serious damage brain and in turn, the body. Because of this, precautions, rules, and guidelines need to be in place to prevent and treat these athletes. If these things are not put in place, it could mean the difference between life and death for these athletes. There are many different injuries that can occur to the head and face. Facial injuries can be very dangerous as it can concern the eyes nose and mouth.
I started getting headaches in the Spring of 2015 which I attributed to stress at school. I used a particular brand of over-the-counter headache medicine with my parents’ permission however, what I didn’t know was that this headache medicine was to be taken every 12 hours, not every 4. The headaches continued and I was not completely honest about the frequency I was taking them with my Mom and Dad. Toward the end of Summer, I started to experience
Most of the body’s functions such as, thinking, emotions, memories and so forth are controlled by the brain. It serves as a central nervous system in the human body. The mind is the intellect/consciousness that originates in the human brain and manifests itself in emotions, thoughts, perceptions and so forth. This means that the brain is the key interpreter of the mind’s content. Jackson and Nagel seem to resist identifying what we call “mental events” with brain events, for different reasons, while J.J.C. Smart takes the opposing view.
What is the meaning of ‘in the head’ (ideational)? How does Wittgenstein’s beetle box through experiment suggest otherwise?
More so, numerous naps throughout the day reduce sleep during the night hence resulting in morning headaches. Sleep headaches are common amongst working professionals, students, and homemakers. The headaches are more like hangovers from alcohol and they do not go easily. Variations in the Rapid Eye Movement sleep cycle is among the reasons of sleep headaches. These headaches are mainly migraines or cluster headaches. Sleep headaches lead to conditions such as depression and sleep apnea. People in despair often sleep too much (Judd, 2010). A person who is sad, discouraged and a mind that is depressed is more likely to sleep for long duration because they find peace at that time. The low physical activity and moods results to pain in the neck, back, and head. Sleep apnea causes sleep headaches because one experiences difficulties in breathing. The pain is attributed to low oxygen levels that the individual experiences. Sleep headaches can be treated by ensuring that a person sleeps for approximately eight hours. Setting a fixed bed time helps one avoid oversleeping. Avoiding long naps in the afternoon and doing away with caffeine, spicy foods, and alcohol before sleeping time can also help in managing the condition. Using clean and comfortable pillows, mattresses are essential for good sleep. Additionally, one should avoid using a laptop, eating food or watching television some hours
