What is the definition of murals and graffiti? The definition of a Mural is a painting or other work of art executed directly on a wall.The definition of graffiti is a writing or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in a public place. Today we look at murals as a beautiful piece of art painted on a wall that is not prosecuted as opposed to graffiti being viewed as a negative threat to our society which is also prosecuted. Murals and graffiti are similar in their ways of displaying discomfort/ emotional outlet. Murals and graffiti are different in their form of prosecution versus non-prosecution.

Murals and graffiti are both used for self expression to help teenagers cope with their emotions. The difference between these two is that murals are seen as a beautiful piece of art that is illegal but not viewed by others as a harmful environment while graffiti is viewed as a harmful environment which commonly spreads negative messages,images,and tags being displayed on walls, buildings, and subway cars. As a result of taggers committing the crime of vandalism, property owners, concerned citizens, and law enforcement officers spend too much time, money, and energy trying to put an end to the unlawful act of vandalism.
