An interesting example of good being corrupted by Evil is the character Smeagol, commonly known referred to by his alter ego Gollum. Gollum is perhaps the most complex character in Lord of the Rings, who represents greed and ambitions yet displays his inner battles with himself, thus proving that he is not purely evil nor has he become purely evil. Gollum is an unique character who shows complexity beyond what appears on the surface.
Gollum began as a Stoor Hobbit and a once a merry member of the River Folk called Smeagol, who became the stretched, disfigured being once his greediness for the Ring took over. His greed for the Ring was so great, he even killed his cousin Deagol for it. This is a greater representation of ambition and greed because Smeagol wanted the Ring bad enough to kill for it, despite his justifications that it was supposed to be his birthday present.

Since the beginning of time, fairy tales, stories and legends have shared a common theme where good and evil are played against each other. In the story of “Beowulf”, translated by, “Burton Raffel”, there is a hero who plays as a good character, and there is also a demon who rules the dark side. The hero Beowulf, agrees to take a journey to conquer the evil monster Grendel. But when Beowulf is trying to defeat the beast, Grendel fights back, causing integrity and generosity to vanish. The common theme in various tales like in Beowulf is, good vs. evil.

Ender is another perfect example of good and evil coexisting in one body though he is generally seen as good, he has his moments. Finally, Card expresses his thoughts on his theme of good versus evil with symbols that can describe the deception of looks; not all who look innocent are innocent, and not all those who look guilty are guilty. Good and evil lives within us however it is up to each individual person to decide which side of the fence they would rather be on: good or evil.

The main parts of most stories include twelve parts to the hero's journey and some additional points.. The three parts of the hero's journey supernatural aid, test and supreme ordeal , and reward and journey home. These are some of the most important parts of the odyssey.
Although JRR Tolkien is notorious for his numerous, and often seemingly irrelevant, minor characters - the necessity of an index of names in The Return of the King proves this without a doubt - one of the most crucial and fascinating characters of The Lord of the Rings physically appears in barely more than one-sixth of the novel. The character Sméagol, often referred to by his alter ego Gollum, on a basic level serves only to guide Frodo and Sam to Mordor, as well as to destroy the Ring when Frodo cannot. However, in the course of doing so, we are revealed, hint by hint, of the enigmatic and contradictory character who "hates the Ring and loves the Ring - just as he hates and loves himself" (Sibley 170). In The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien uses the character Sméagol, forged from a collection of historical and historically mythological tales, as a foil for the central hero Frodo Baggins as well as the Christian example of hope, despite the powerful corruption of evil.
Gollum cannot resist the Ring’s temptation because he has no knowledge of the Ring and no guidance to form good habits and prevent addiction to the Ring. Gollum, originally, Sméagol wanted the Ring because of Its beauty but his friend, Déagol found it first. After Déagol refused to just give the Ring to Sméagol because it was his birthday, “…he [Sméagol] caught Déagol by the throat and strangled him, because the gold looked so bright and beautiful. Then he put the ring on his finger,” (58). But after he found the Ring, he had no guidance to form good ...

What hero compromises the intense struggle between good and evil? J.R.R. Tolkien’s book involves a hobbit who reaches out of his comfort zone to show that hobbits succeed at beginning adventures. Tolkien uses symbolism and epithets to show the rigorous processes of how an ordinary creature becomes a mythic hero.
The story of good vs. evil is one that dates back to the beginning of time itself. In the epic Beowulf this is no different; the forces of good and evil are in constant conflict with each other. Beowulf, the good hero, is “praised over and over again” for his glorious and continued victories over the forces of evil (Heaney: Celebration at Heorot: 131). On the other hand, the evil characters, such as Grendel and Grendel’s mother, are not only “malignant by nature”, but also constantly terrorize the citizens near them, defiantly rebelling against the forces of good. (Heaney: Heorot Is Attacked :131). Grendel is a demon, the descendant of the cursed Cain from Biblical times, is seen as the embodiment of evil, and none but Beowulf can overpower
Wicked, dishonorable, corrupt, villainous, malicious, and vicious all have one thing in common: they define evil. A person or a group of people that display these qualities are often defined as evil beings or creatures. Two people that have many of these characteristics developed within them are Iago from Shakespeare’s Othello and Lucifer from the Bible. Both Iago and Lucifer are developed with many “evil” qualities woven intricately into their character development. The representation of each “evil” characteristic gives them something they have in common, allowing the description and portrayal of both Iago and Lucifer in literature show the audience they share common “evil” characteristics and that they lead to chaos and downfall.

Mythology cannot be proven to be completely true, due to the lack of verified written proof. The three in this section include; Hindu, Egypt, and African each has their own way of how the world was created.
J.R.R. Tolkien Research Paper As many have grown up during this generation, they have been dazzled by the work of J.R.R. Tolkien as well as the artistic interpretation of this trilogy by Peter Jackson. This movement started when Tolkien created The Hobbit and then later the Lord of the Rings trilogy in the 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s. However, there are those who have criticized both the books and the cinema for being sexist and/or racist. Tolkien is not sexist because he develops his female characters by revealing their individualism and dynamic features, and is also not a racist because much of the criticism comes from Peter Jackson’s interpretations and because racism is harshly looked upon more in this generation than it was back in the 1940’s.
Kathleen, the length is only one of the reasons I “declassified” The Hobbit as a fairy tale not the only reason. Fairy tales are often always short stories and The Hobbit is not. I am familiar with myths and their lengths, and many myths are usually considered epic poems. Paradise Lost, Iliad, and Odyssey are all epic poems, but are Greek myths. Therefore, making them shorter than The Hobbit but longer than a fairy tale. Let me be clear length is a small aspect on why I no longer consider it a fairy tale. Star Wars as in George Lucas? Star Wars has elements of mythology just like The Hobbit has elements of a fairy tale the characters, a moral lesson, and the happy ending to be exact. The Odyssey, an epic, was written by Homer, a renowned Greek epic poet. The prequel to this book is The Iliad and leads off with the end of the Siege of Troy and the disappearance of Odysseus.
Everyone except Frodo and Sam arrives at the kingdom of Gondor, and though the people of Gondor are amazed and frightened at first by the huge army of walking trees that accompany them, everyone smiles and accepts them when Gandalf and Aragorn reveal themselves. The brothers Denethor and Boromir, however, see that Aragorn brings knowledge from the North which will give their kingship over to Faramir, the true King, and so they secretly conspire against him. And so later on, when the forces of Mordor arrive to attack Gondor, they successfully plot to have Aragorn positioned so he must face the Witch-King in single combat. The battle is too much for Aragorn, and just as he is about to die he is saved by Eowyn, a woman of Rohan who loves him, and Merry, who slays the Witch-king in single combat by using ancient hobbit-magic and so reveals himself to be the lost Thain of the Shire. Even as the forces of Mordor retreat, they are swept into the Sea by great ships brought by Faramir, the true Prince of Dol Amroth, from the hidden city of Osgiliath further up the Great River.
This critique is about the film “The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies”. It is a heavy designed film that definitely had a long research and design process. There is more than one designer in each area of the following; scenery, costume, lighting and sound. Instead of talking about each designer’s accomplishment in the film. I will be talking only about their work. There were so many participants in the creating of the film it would be hard to reference each design element to an artist.
