After I reading the document’GIS Soltution for Environment Management’, it is very interesting and I also learn a lot about GIS from it.
The technology of GIS is used to support and send information to environmental managers and mass. GIS allows the combination and analysis of various layers of those data in different areas including environmental measurements. According to the potential users, the environmental application areas of GIS are different, environmental spheres, and the specific environmental issue being investgated. In conclusion, Geographic Information System (GIS) is a kind of spatial information systems professionals in the form of a data management system. In a strict sense, this is a concentrated, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information that a computer system having. In addition, Geographic Information System (GIS) technology can be applied to scientific investigations, resource management, property management, development planning, mapping and route planning.

Finally, GIS is also being used in the defense of our country. It tends to determines the success or failure of the war in some extent. Such as during the Gulf War, the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency for the needs of the war on the workstation to establish an integrated system of GIS and Remote Sensing and we can see that this really help them a lot in the war.
In conclusion, GIS is increasingly becoming an indispensable respective fields of national economy application tools, I believe it will make a greater contribution to social progress and development. I think this is all my learned about GIS, and I am sure this information will be useful for us in the future, I have a nice semester with our Geog professor and I hope all of us can have a excellent summer hoilday! In an increasingly global world geography matters now more than ever. With so many groundbreaking technological advances within the last 50 years the world is rapidly evolving into a more interconnected and codependent society. These strides of advancement not only allow for international business interactions, but it allows instant communication to make business more cohesive. As a more interconnected society it is important for every person to understand the locations and cultural motivations of the people they interact with. These subject matters are suggested and discussed in “Why Geography Matters…More Than Ever!”
The Five Themes of Geography are: Location – Absolute points on a map or grid or Relative to where something may be; Place – The physical and/or human characteristics of a locations; Human/Environment Interactions – How humans have impacted the landscape or environment; Relationship between places Movement – How humans interact on the earth (i.e. how they communicate over distance (short or long)) and Regions – a unit of space that has commonalities defined by physical, human and environmental geography. The Explorers of the New World may have not known what the Five Themes of Geography were but they quickly learned. Of the five themes the ones that they all took advantage of was the physical Location and Place as they learned to navigate to and from as well as through their new environments. Over Time the explorers began to discover the relationships within their environments and original occupants of the lands as well as the regions in which they now occupied.
The question that I will be answering for my coursework is which is best at protecting the Northumberland coastline – groynes or beach nourishment. I will be going to Blyth beach also I will be visiting Newbiggen beach I am investigating the Northumberland coastline as part of my geography coursework also because I live in the UK and I want to see how safe the people of the UK are with the safety of the coastline and its defences against coastal erosion. We will be visiting the Northumberland coastline on Thursday the 15th of May 2014.

GIS is an emerging method of data storage and interpretation. GIS is, simply put a database. It is many tables of data organized by one common denominator, location. The data in a GIS system is organized spatially, or by its physical location on the base map. The information that is stored in the database is the location and attributes that exist in that base map, such as streets, highways, water lines, sewers, manholes, properties, and buildings, etc. each of these items don’t just exist in the database, the attributes associated with the item is also stored. A good example of this would be a specific sewer line, from and arbitrary point A to a point B. Ideally, the sewer line would be represented graphically, with a line connecting the two points or something of the like. When one retrieves the information for that line in particular, the attribute data would be shown. This data would include the size of pipe, the pipe material, the upper invert elevation, the downstream invert elevation, the date installed, and any problem history associated with that line. This is the very gist of what a GIS system is.
Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.) is one of the fastest growing technologies today. This field covers anything and everything that can be mapped, anything from weeds to urban sprawl, if it can be mapped, G.I.S. can be used. G.I.S. uses computers to store, analyze, and show data collected about a given topic(Kennedy 1), (Zimmerman 5-9, 73-91). G.I.S. basically turns a computer into an atlas(Kennedy 1). With all this information available, how can it help the field of agriculture? G.I.S. has been used to track the spread of noxious weeds, grasshoppers, soil types, and various other factors, which help in agriculture.

Computerized mapping and data analysis is known as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a new frontier in geography. Spatial data is gathered on a variety of subjects and input onto a computer. GIS users can create an infinite number of maps by requesting portions of the data to plot.
The Physical side of the project contains two sectors: natural environment and urban linkages. Within the natural environment sector there is a focus on geology, soils, topography, climate and water, and plant/wildlife ecology. The urban linkage contains transportation, infrastructure, landuse and other regulations, and urban dynamics. The financial dimension of the model involves two sectors: space markets and money markets. Within the space market sector is use/type, price, geography, supply and demand, real estate cycles.
