Located in Boston, Massachusetts, Fenway Park is the home of the Boston Red Sox major league baseball team. James McLaughlin designed Fenway in 1911. This ballpark was designed with the purpose to serve as a home to the Red Sox organization in Boston. This ballpark has been transformed throughout the years and has also served as a soccer field, hockey arena, football field, and as a concert venue as well. It was created in a rural space back in 1911, where horses were familiar sights on the streets of Boston. Today, Fenway Park is located in the center of Boston surrounded by modern architecture and highways. The environment around Fenway Park modified the dimensions of the ballpark in the 1900s when an expansion was needed. Because the ballpark was first built on a rural space and now it resides on a metropolitan area it was impossible to expand the outside structures in the 1900s.
Fenway Park prides itself with the title of the oldest ballpark in the Major Leagues. It history has transcended generations and is very accessible for everybody to experience it. Attending a Red Sox game is a tradition that is passed down through multiple generations. Fenway Park is listed in the National Register of Historic Places at local, state, and national levels of significance. “It’s a revered historic site, in a city where the American

Revolution began, and the telephone was invented, that is no small feat” (Foulds 2005). Fenway Park has gone through renovations just like any other old building. Fenway’s entrance is the most historic part of the building. This part of the building is built from red bricks, and has two-story building that faces Yawkey Way. The first floor is the entrance and gates were built to regulate the amount of people that enter the ballpark. The second floor is the team offices and has square windows equally divided across the building facing the main street. The outside of the building is painted red and a green sign is located in the middle with white letters that read “Fenway Park”. The main entrance building shows a good example of the Tapestry Brick Style. The outside wall of the building has a patterned brickwork and crowning parapet wall which are common in the Tapestry Brick Style. This style was common used as a modest architectural expression. This used to be the only entrance to the ballpark until renovations were made in order to expand it and bring more people inside. Now every stand has its own entrance. The grandstand is built right behind the entrance building and has the better view of the field. It is built out of steel that is being held on concrete beams in the bottom. This section is painted green and has seats for the spectators as well as a roof that is perpendicular to the roof of the main entrance. It is the most expensive section of the ballpark and iron fences surround it. This section in particular had the most alterations; more seats were added later on and the beams of steel were reinforced with concrete in order to support more weight. The grandstand gradually descends from the top of the original main entrance to the field, which makes it look bigger from the inside but it’s only because the field sits below street level. Having the steel roof of the grandstand descend from the top of the entrance building unite the two buildings into one even when they are constructed from different materials and for different purpose. The dugouts were located in the corner of the field and sat below the field level. They were made out of concrete and had a column supporting the concrete structure in the middle. It is a rectangular opening with a roof has seats for the players and is painted green. Part of the grandstand rested on the dugout, which made it easily for the air to ventilate under the stands and inside the dugout with openings in the back. These dugouts were built below field level in order to isolate the players from the crow and help them focus in the game. The rest of the bleachers around the first base line and the third base line were similar. They were made out of beams of steel and with steel laying horizontally serving as seats in every row. These sections were cheaper than the grandstand and were constructed very similar to each other, no paint just raw steel. These sections had a roof over them but it was smaller and covered less space than the roof that was located on top of the grandstands. The stands in the outfield of Fenway Park were constructed over time. They were the cheaper sections of the stadium and the farthest view available. The early success of the team modified the plans of the stands. A new section was added for the world series of 1912 and it remained there. This section was located on the right field and was built out of wood; unlike all the other seating sections this one did not include either steel or concrete. This section served the purpose of quickly accommodating more people inside the ballpark rather than luxury or comfort. The center field bleachers had a structure of steel supporting them and concrete columns around them shaped rectangular. The scoreboard was located behind the stand and advertisement space was there too. The left field bleacher was similar to the one in center field but pentagonal shaped; this is the stand that was changed the most. Because of the short dimensions from home plate to left field, the left field bleacher was removed and later became the world famous “Green Monster”. The new ballpark still retains most of the history from the original structure but unfortunately the stands where replaced in order to accommodate more fans and provide more security. These additions led to the shortening of the field and modifications of its surroundings. A dark green color is spread throughout the whole building, stands, scoreboard, and outside, except for the first building located in the main entrance, which still has a vivid red color like the original red bricks. The streets around the ballpark remained like 1912 made out of rocks and are closed to traffic. The world famous “Green Monster” is a wall that resides on the left field of the ballpark, taking over the old bleachers that used to be there from the first day the park was open. This wall is 30 plus feet tall and currently has an old school manual scoreboard system inside it. It was initially built with the purpose of protecting the owner’s business behind the left field and stop people from watching games free through the old not so tall bleachers. To this day, this wall protects the team stores that are behind it and in a way the city of Boston. There is an immense American flag that hangs from the top of the wall to the bottom and covers the whole wall. After the tragedy that occurred at the Boston marathon, the city of Boston turned to the green monster as protection. The flag hung there and all the fans unanimous sang the letters of the national anthem before every home game for that whole week. “It is a New England landmark, no less so than the Bunker Hill Monument, the Old Man of the Mountain, or Walden Pond. And when major league baseball is no longer played in Fenway Park, there is a good chance that the left field wall will be preserved, either as part of the next park or as a monument to the first century.” (Shaughnessy 1999) The new stands are built similar to the grandstand.
A concrete foundation is laid and beam of steel are raised to the roof. The roof also is different from the original one in the grandstand; this one is built out of concrete. It does not only cover the fans sitting on the sections around the diamond, but it also serves as extra seats for other fans. Because the field was initially lower than ground level, the additional seats on top of the roof do not elevate the look of the ballpark from the outside too much. Even though these additional seats are located high and far from the field, they give the fans a straight-line view to the
diamond. The new look that Fenway Park has gotten throughout the years, especially after 1934 does not make the ballpark look that old. Fenway Park underwent its major reconstruction in 1934, since it was first built in 1912. Even though the new ballpark didn’t change the dimensions of the outside structures, the dimensions of the field inside were changed drastically. Two rectangular bullpens were added in the outfield and that took space from the original field and the original stands that were there. The outside of Fenway Park is built out of concrete and raises as the highest point of the ballpark in the southern building where the box seats are located and where the old main entrance and the grandstand used to be. The main entrance is still there and has not change much since 1912. Some of the structures that are visible from the outside are supported by beam of steel and so are the light towers around the stadium. The bleachers were replaced and now they are seats equals throughout the whole stadium. The new seats are replica of the old style seats that once were located on the grandstand section. On top of the old grandstand and the team offices was created a rectangular infrastructure that offers suites for the box press and private meetings. All these modifications and renovations to Fenway Park means that even though the ballpark looks completely different from what it used to be in 1912, it still conserves the history inside. Most of the alterations were made in 1935 and as we could see they either add or fortified the structure of the building. The original structures (grandstand, main entrance, first base bleachers and third base bleachers) are still present; they just have been modified to build more space for fans on top of them. The new modifications of the stands on the outfield made the field short but also closer to the fans, who now can sit close to a field level and experience the game closer. The modified stadium was reconstructed with the purpose of keeping more of the original features of Fenway Park but also increase the capacity of fans.
The current trend in baseball park construction is a retro design, reminiscent of the early years, combined with modern technology. This trend, dubbed “The Construction Era” by Frank Deford of Sports Illustrated, is prominent in three new American League parks: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Jacobs Field, and The Ballpark at Arlington. The current idea for ballpark construction is to locate the retro style parks in the heart of urban areas. The whole movement was initiated by the construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and it’s radical new design concept.

Baseball is one of the world's greatest sports and is played almost everywhere in the world. It is also one of the most historic games. The main historic part of baseball deals with the ballparks, the cities, and the teams that have been around for such a long time. Then you have the one and only Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Fenway Park is the longest standing and is still being used of all the Major League ballparks in the United States. Throughout the 100 years of Fenway Park's existence it has been built, named, burned down, rebuilt, and a whole lot of adding on to the ballpark.
Baseball has been of the longest living sports in our world today. The game started with the idea of a stick and ball and now has become one of the most complex sports known in our society. Several rules and regulations have been added to help enhance the game for everyone. Although baseball has endured several issues during its history and development of the game the game has still been a success throughout the world.
Baseball was popular the most sport in 1919; players were seen as heroes and celebrities. At this time the players were payed very low wages and the owners of the team made huge profit. Because of this many players were into scams that involved them losing games on purpose. During that time of baseball, players didn’t make as much as they do today.Players would be offered large amount of money that would multiply to several times their salary.
During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Major League Baseball, much like the majority of other American institutions, was racially segregated. A color barrier was implemented during baseball’s infancy in order to separate people of different race to cater to the white American players. The color barrier was an unofficial “rule” that hindered those with dark skin from playing baseball for Major League teams. The color barrier was enforced by preventing any teams with a colored player from competing at the professional level. Many team owners, umpires, and players justified their opposition to allowing blacks to play by declaring that only whites could uphold the "gentlemanly character" of professional baseball. Others argued that excluding blacks would prevent future racial resentment between the ethnicities, as players of different races would be competing for the same job opportunities.
The New York Yankees are one of the most loved - and hated - sports franchises in the history of sports franchises. They have also been one of the most successful. Read below to find out more about the Yanks.
The home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dodger Stadium is located in the Elysian Park neighborhood about three miles from Downton Los Angeles. Although Uber is the preferred ride to the stadium, cabs and car services are also welcomed. Fans are encouraged to take the public transportation, and MTA buses on Sunset Blvd. and the Gold Line in Chinatown, are highly recommended. The Gold Line Metro rail stop is a ¾-mile walk to the stadium.
The history of the rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees can be traced to the beginning of Red Sox baseball on April 26, 1901, when they made their baseball debut as the Boston Americans. They played a team from Baltimore that would later be known as the New York Yankees. The Red Sox may have lost that first game, but went on to win the very first “modern” World Series” in 1903 and repeated as champions of the American League in 1904(Frommer, 2004). In 1910 the name Boston Red Sox became official and in April of 1912 they moved into Fenway Park which was a momentous period for the Red Sox. They again won the World Series and the American League pennant that year. The team was well rounded with great pitching, hitting and out fielding, enabling the Red Sox to go on and win repeated pennants and championships from 1915 to 1918. Then things started to change. If you have ever met me, or know me, you would know that I love sports, and you would know my favorite sport of all time is baseball, and that my favorite sports team is Boston Red Sox. I am what you call a die-hard Red Sox fan; you can compare me as Red Sox fan to actor Jimmy Fallon’s character in the movie, Fever Pitch. My strong love for the Red Sox comes from my step-dad Phil. Phil has always been like a second father to me since he and my mom got together, back in early 2000s. Phil is always trying to teach and help me learn from my mistakes, and I have made my share of them. Nevertheless, I also cherish the moments I spend with him at Red Sox games. The experiences I have at Red Sox games are moments in my life, I will never forget, that I will always remember, One game in particular I most remember is my first Red Sox game at Fenway Park.
Many people don't understand the point in playing baseball. Why would someone swing a stick, hit a ball, and try to get back to where they started before the ball returns? What pleasure is there in that? Why not participate in a sport like wrestling or track where there is an obvious level of individual improvement and therefore pleasure. Well, I play baseball because of the love I have for the sport, and because of the feeling that overwhelms me every time I walk onto a baseball field. When I walk onto a field I am given the desire to better myself not only as an athlete, but also as a person. The thoughts and feelings I get drive me to work hard towards my goals and to be a better person. The most relevant example of these feelings is when I stepped on the field at Runyon Complex in Pueblo, Colorado during our high school state playoffs in 2003. This baseball field will always be an important place to me.
The opening pitch of the 1999 marks the start of the Toronto Blue Jays twenty third seasons in the American League. In 1998, the Jays brought in their first winning season since 1993. The Jays plays in the worlds most advanced retractable-roof stadium. It is luxuriously called the Sky Dome. With a winning record like this and a state of the art stadium, the Jays feel their tickets are a great value because of the satisfaction fans can expect to receive from the ball game.
“I’m at the, gamblin spot, my hands on a knot / New York Yankee cap cover my eyes, stand in one spot” This is a line from “New York State of Mind II” by Nas. The idea of a New York Yankees hat brings up more emotions than any other sports apparel in the world. For some its pride, others hatred, fear, anger, style, etc. The hat is more than just the team which is the pride and joy of a city filled with incredible historical moments ranging from joyous moments like when the citizens blazed a pathway for the rest of the nation with its legalization of gay marriage to sad moments that rallied the nation to fight terror like the attack on the World Trade Centers. Since its founding by Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1523, New York has been an attraction for those all around the world. The location, the events, the skyscrapers, the teams, and depending on who you ask, the people, all scream to tourists around the world to visit.
Than we marched through the complex until we reached the most famous park in the whole complex. Double-Day field, one of the nine fields that make up cooperstown dream parks. It only hosts one game on it per tournament, the championship game. As I walked in along side my team I get a strong gust of the fresh cut grass, I feel the energy in the stands, and I can clearly hear the cheers from every individual player in the crowd. Everyone eventually settled in and before we knew it skydivers bearing flags parachute into the stadium. Photographers ran cross the field as fighter planes shot across the sky. It was our first look at what being a professional athlete would be like. The complex had a set dress code and expected much more from us than we have ever been expected to do. The parents weren 't even allowed by the barracks; we were living on our own for the first time. To me Cooperstown was my first real step in becoming a grown adult, as it was for everyone else
This past May, my dad, sister, grandpa, and I went to a game. When we first got to Chicago, we found somewhere to park close to the field. We got there two or three hours ahead of game time. The area around Wrigley Field is called Wrigleyville. This is where there is a park, shops, and restaurants. This area is always packed with people. The sidewalks are always shoulder to shoulder with people. We walk around for a little bit and buy some shirts or hats for souvenirs. Then we went in the park about one or two hours ahead of game time.
