With it being one of main attractions in Melbourne, Australia, The Eureka tower is the highest residential building in the world, standing at a height of 300m. It opened up on the 11th of October 2006 and took 4 years and 2 months to complete. There are many elements to the building which are quiet vital to its appearance and the history from where the idea comes from. The main materials used within the building are gold coated glazing and power coated aluminium windows. The name of the building comes from the Eureka stockdade, a rebellion during the Victorian gold rush in 1854. This is shown in the design, with the buildings gold crown which is shown at the very top of the structure which represents the gold rush and there is also a red stripe which is to represent the blood which as spilt during the revolution. For this assignment I am going to investigate the main elements of the building. With these components I will try to identify the key elements that show and define the architecture. A history of a chosen element will also be investigated. Eureka Tower There are many elements to the Eureka tower which give it its significant design finish. It is a great example of the control of high density living for what has traditionally been the low suburban density of Melbourne. It is the second tallest building in Australia and the tallest building in Melbourne. One of its main features to the building is its sky deck which can give a 360 degree view of the city. The glass cube also known as the edge extends itself out from the building and is able to hang over the edge of the tower which is also great for viewing. I was lucky enough to visit this beautiful structure last year when I visited Australia. One of the most fascinating components I found from the building was its gold reflective glass. It was something in which I wasn’t very familiar with on a building. The history in which I found out about the story behind the building was also quite interesting. Visiting the building was another great experience while travelling to Australia and the fact how well it stood out compared to the other buildings which surrounded this incredible structure. Finding out the history on glazing was also quite interesting. It was a material in which I did not know a lot of information on. I found in very interesting on its development in time and how it has gone through so many uses since being discovered.
