There are barriers however, that need to be removed so that all states will have no restrictions or limitations. Having to see a physician to get a referral for therapy takes too much time and can be costly. If I had a problem and thought that my problem could be resolved by going to physical therapy, I would hope that I could go directly to a physical therapist for an evaluation. This would be convenient for me because I am so busy. If the physical therapist determined that I would benefit from physical therapy, I would have saved myself the time and expense that it would have taken for me to go visit a doctor only to get a referral to go see a physical therapist. If I had to visit a doctor first, there would be waiting times. Once I could finally get in to see a doctor to get a referral for physical therapy, there would then be waiting times to get into physical therapy for an evaluation. I may be waiting days to weeks to get in on a schedule for an evaluation which could delay my recovery

The application of advanced access principles require that rather than booking weeks and/or months in advance, we leave more time available each day to see the patients who call on that day. This provides a higher percentage of same-day appointments resulting in the elimination of advance booking and long wait-times for an appointment, reduction in the number of missed appointments, and ultimately increasing patient compliance and

In an institutional practice the patient can call the pharmacist and give permission to talk to a doctor if able to speak. In case of an emergency, such as a heart attack or car accident, the doctor can call the pharmacist to get the information without patient consent. A patient must give a written authorization in a community pharmacy.
The third disadvantage is paperwork(Vaughn). According to Tess Vaughn, there is a plethora of paper work. Before going into physical therapy, think about having tons of paperwork on a desk. The fourth disadvantage is the amount of schooling. If one does not see himself doing seven to eight years of college, do not choose physical therapy as a career(Vaughn).
Once a patient meets all the qualifications, submits the request to a physician, and is approved by two physicians, the patient can move forward with this process. Typically, a physician prescribes the patient a medication at a specific dose, essentially aiding the patient in overdosing. Once the patient receives the medication, they are allowed to take it where they feel comfortable, though they are advised not to do so in public. Patients also must take the medication in the state they receive the medication in and reside in; if a patient takes their medication outside of the state they’ve been prescribed it in, they will not be protected by law and their death will be ruled a suicide. One in three patients who receive their prescription end up never taking it.
He told me it may be possible for me to skate again. He asked me if I was prepared to work even harder than I had before to continue my skating career, to which I said “I know no other option”. A value instilled in me by my parents at a young age; if you want something you have to work as hard as possible to get it. I did countless weeks of intense physical therapy. I reduced work load at my job which supported my skating in order to focus on my recovery since my labor intensive job would impede the recovery process. During my slow return to skating I had a reoccurrence of my bulging disc to which the doctor told me the impact forces of jumping were too much for muscular strength to overcome. We discussed my options and he agreed that I could compete in ice dance, my second love in skating. He reiterated to me that picking up and individual to perform lifts might not put the same impact forces but I still needed to work as hard as before to be able to compete safely. I rehabilitated again and begun my trek down the path of ice dancing. I competed in ice dance for the next six years without a flair up in my back. I was a national competitor and at the end of my career I was ranked 11th in the country, competing against those who would become our Olympic team
Physical therapy has been around since 460 BC (History of Physical Therapy). Yet, many people do not actually know what physical therapy is and how it benefits people with various injuries and surgeries. During the ninth grade, I injured my knee playing soccer. The initial MRI did not show any tears, but the orthapedic surgeon did notice I was weak medially and that my patella was tracking laterally. He sent me to therapy to strengthen the inside of my leg and hopefully pull my kneecap medially. I started going to therapy and I adored my therapist, Kelley. Even though the exercises weren’t always fun or pain free I looked forward to therapy. She made things fun, and since I was interested in the field, would explain why I was doing certain exercises compared to others. The pain didn’t go away and she worked to help figure ...

As for some patients, the biggest concern about attending physical therapy is cost. So, has the therapist had a conversation with each patient about financials? Does the patient understand their insurance and how much each visit will be? What will their insurance cover? Is the PT aware that maybe the patient cannot afford to come in three times a week? Maybe the patient requested to come in once a week instead? Is there a plan as to what the patient could do something outside of therapy, to help decrease their symptoms and number of visits? All of which are important questions to further understand if the situation is ethically or morally
