Dependability...Trust...Virtue. These are three qualities that should come to mind when determining a valuable, true friendship. Although in today 's society, it has become a challenge to even understand who and what a friend is rather than a true friend. Back-stabbing, lies, and just in general drama seems to fit most people 's definition of friendship. So what would today 's society know about being a true friend? Yes, people have in mind a variety of ideas on what characteristics make up a true friend, but majority of their word choices are too broad. Characteristics such as friendly, fun, or hilarious applies to just about anyone. It takes more than being a nice, outgoing, or funny individual to be considered a true friend. Whether someone is in need of advice, a favor, or just someone to talk to, a dependable friend would be first to volunteer a listening ear or a lending hand. A true friend is just as dependable as a sidekick is to a superhero. Whether its Batman and Robin or Mermaid Man and Barnacle boy, they could depend on one another even when not battling villains, for they know they have a sincere friendship. Having a dependable friend makes a friendship feel genuine. It builds into the feeling of appreciation knowing that someone actually cares, and a dependable person not only shows that through their words, but more so through their actions. Dependable friends are true friends who are approachable, there to listen, to help, and to confide in. A dependable friend not only builds up a true friendship, but one of trust, something expected from a true …show more content…
Virtue is the very factor that holds a friendship together. It is the foundation that holds the house, or friendship, in place through day and night, rain or shine. Individuals who respect, honor, and cherish one another no matter what obstacles life brings are the people who tend to find themselves in a legitimate friendship, for they are true friends. They are the ones that are happiest when they witness good happening for their friend. They are sad as they witness their friend in pain, and the first ones that want to discover the root of the problem(No matter who or what caused it, they want to know!)As an illustration, the show Friends follows the journey of six friends living in New York. Through all the ups and downs of their busy work and social lives, they always have time for one another. The bond they all share as they experience the highs and lows of life lessons grows, for they go through it all with the highest regards of respect and love for one another. That bond is held together by the virtue present in their friendship. It is so sincere. Virtue is where the connection is at. Its an eye opener that reveals a person 's true friends. It should be the goal of every individual to only surround themselves with others who value and respect them, for if they do
To me, being a good friend is staying by their side, even if they do something you do not like. Also, a good friend would back you up and do whatever they can get others to see you for who you really are, not just for that one bad thing you might have done. Though some may argue that in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George was being a good friend to Lennie by making his death as painless as possible, but it is proven that he in fact was not being a good friend to Lennie when George kills him because Lennie is his best friend and being all he has, George is going to now suffer that loss and Lennie did not kill her because he was trying to be mean it was just a bad accident.
A friendship is a bond shared with another person, typically of common interests. A friend is honest, loyal, faithful, and trustworthy. It's someone you can share secrets, memories, fears, and dreams with. They stand by you despite arguments or disputes that might arise. Friendships can bring joy, as well as pain; friends want the best for each other, and sometimes sacrifices must be made. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck speaks of the advantages and pitfalls to a friendship.
I would define friendship as complete trust and love between two people. Many people believe that this kind of behavior is reciprocated between two individuals without any expectations. A friend is someone who also provides you with support and whom you can rely on to celebrate special moments with. A friend also comes with many great attributes; such as loyalty, honesty, compassion, trust, and morality. Today’s friend is viewed as someone who shares happiness, common values, history, and equality with another. For example, Aristotle and Cicero both wrote dialogues about friendship and its significance on mankind. Therefore, the key issues that will be discussed are: their views on the similarities of friendship, the differences between friends,
You can use these three factors to see how good of a friend a person can be, and determine there true character. All through the fifteen years I’ve lived this life there has always been one redundant term told over and over. Honesty is key, and if your talking about a friendship that ‘s true. If you don’t have honesty you don’t have anything to base your relationship on. Being honest to a good friend should be subconscious, and if it’s not then I wouldn’t consider them a good friend.
Conclusively, the similarities of friendship and virtue allow the two states to correspond with one another in a happy life. The purpose of friendship is not only to coexist with virtue but also, by the actions of friends, virtue and friendship strengthen one another, making happiness all the more easy to attain because of it. Aristotle sums it up nicely, by saying “the friendship of decent people is decent, and increases the more often they meet. And they seem to become better still from their activities and their mutual correction. For each molds the other in a what they approve of, so that you will learn what is noble from noble people (1172a11-14).”
These friendships are usually short lasting since their attitudes and feelings change at a quick pace. The perfect type of friendship is based on goodness, according to Aristotle. “Only the friendship of those who are good, and similar in their goodness is perfect” (Aristotle 263). In this type of friendship is based on similarities between the parties. They strive to do good for one another as well as to provide pleasure for each other. It is the longest and purest friendship of the three. “Those who desire the good of their friends for the friend’s sake that are most truly friends because each loves the other for what he is and not for any in accidental quality” (Aristotle 263). According to Aristotle, it is the rarest type of friendship, because a person has to able whiling to decade the time and intimacy that is needed to establish it, however by doing so, it makes the person vulnerable in which not many are whiling to do. One must also prove that they are worthy of the love and trust. Aristotle concludes that establishing such friendship will help a person chief the ultimate happiness and
My own experiences with friendship is a very personal thing. I can count my real, long-term friends on one hand. I have only experienced this level of true friendship with one man, my father. With me, he is honest and I look up to him and admire him for what he’s done.
A good friendship with someone else can be challenging to find especially in school. Valuing each other, plays a huge role day to day because it shows how good of a friendship myself and one of my close friends have together. Also, being a better person in general can benefit every situation because it shows much you may care for the other person and how they respond to your actions. Trustworthy friends are the best kind to find because they can be there for you and myself could be there for them. As a result, being their supporters in anything can make you have their support as well if you’re not feeling one hundred percent all of the time.
There are many valuable things in life like family, sports, school but what about friendship? To live life without friendship is something no one should ever go through. Friendship is a necessity to living a successful life. Friendship occurs when someone is a supporter, gives assistance, and is attached to someone all the while genuinely taking care of them when they are hurt (The definition of friend, 1995-2002). A good and healthy friendship can be defined fro individuals as when someone has his or her own support system, a friend being loyal, and will always have genuine and mutual trust.
She doesn’t know this, but she changed my life. She was there for me when it seemed like no one else was. When most of my friends were dissolving around me and I just didn’t feel like I could do anything right, she was there, and she made everything seem okay. It didn’t matter that I was inevitably going to graduate with a GPA a tenth of a point lower than I wanted, or that my director told me that he was disappointed in me because I just didn’t seem focused lately, or that my other friends just weren’t talking to me anymore. It didn’t matter because she was there and she made me feel safe. She’s my best friend, and I love her and admire her for so many different reasons.
One of the most important details in a friendship is to never leave or forsake the other. A friend is also loyal, for example in the movie Lord of the Rings, Froto and Sam Wise had a wonderful fellowship. They lived in peace and in one accord. Also in the movie, gandalf sent froto on a mission. Froto was scared and he didn’t want to go on the journey by himself.
In life we have different types of personal relationship that were we communicate differently in order to fit their need. Such as people with low self-esteem, or just people who are going through some hardships in their lives. Communications is the way to get through to them.
Friendship is a relationship that all the individuals can create by themselves. Though it is not a god gifted relationship like that of the relationship of a mother, father, sister, brother or any of the other family but still it is one of the best relations an individual can possess. People who have true friends consider themselves as the luckiest individuals on earth.
A friend is someone difficult to find. A friend is someone you can always count on when times are tough. The dictionary's definition of a good friend is a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. A good friend is there when you are struggling. For example, when a boy breaks your heart a good friend walks you through it and offers a shoulder to cry on. According to Bree Neff, a good friend is someone who is trustworthy, doesn't talk behind your back, listens to your problems, gives good advice and tries to lend humor along with his or her support. There are also bad friends, those who pretend to care and then turn around gossiping and starting drama. Good and bad friends are all around you, involved in your everyday life. To find good friends you should look for such traits as being kind, trustworthy, loyal and dependable.
I believe in companionship. It’s the feeling that you have someone, and they have you, in any and all pursuits. It’s the idea that you’re stronger with another person, more capable, and more resilient. It’s knowing that you aren’t by yourself in this world. Companionship is true friendship that goes a step beyond; it encompasses ideas of brotherhood and togetherness that the word “friendship” just doesn’t express.
