“Making the world a better place, one smile at a time.” Many avoid smiling for different reasons. One of the most common excuses is because of how the teeth appear causing insecurities. This is when people call and book an appointment with a dentist. Dentists do much more than just clean teeth. Dentistry is another universe from the starting point of training all the way to retirement. Special training and educational courses are required to enter the dentistry world. “All dental schools require applicants to have completed certain Science courses, such as biology and chemistry, before entering dental school” (Bureau of labor statistics). Before even going into dental school, it is important to have majored in science classes to increase chance of being accepted into dental school. It is also important to start training before dental school to get a head start. “The Dental Admissions Test is required by all U.S dental schools and measures academic ability, scientific understanding, and perceptual ability” (ADEA). The DAT is a five-hour test that includes 280 questions. The possible points are 30 and the average is 19. Majoring in science classes and passing the DTA is important to become a dentist. Along with “The duties and responsibilities of a dentist include diagnosing, treating, and providing preventative and restorative care for problems that affect their patients mouths and teeth” (Kool Smiles). Many people think that going to the dentist is just so that their teeth can be cleaned professionally. What many do not know is that a visit to the office is also assuring that the mouth does not have any infections or diseases. “Dentists are expected to instruct patients on treatment, brushing, and flossing” (FEG.INFOBASE). the biggest responsibility of a dentist is to help the patient keep their teeth as healthy as possible.
