Who is the most courageous in To Kill A Mockingbird?

The book To Kill a Mockingbird was published in 1960 by an author named Harper Lee. Harper Lee born was April 28, 1926 in Monroeville Alabama Lee had made 2 novels in the time she was alive she had wrote To Kill A Mockingbird and Go Set A Watchman. Harper lee had also illustrated a few children's books. So what is courage? To Kill A Mockingbird gives the readers a look into how terrible things were in the south during the 1930’s from prejudice to racism to morality and even youth. When an African American man named Tom Robinson is wrongly accused of raping a young, white girl a lawyer named Atticus Finch takes the case. Atticus Finch is the main character's father. Atticus is very different from most people in Maycomb county, Atticus believes in justice for all and that

includes African Americans. Atticus is the most courageous character on the novel from taking a case that could bring danger to him and his family.
Atticus had taken the case regarding an African American man named Tom Robinson wrongly accused of raping a young lady, named Mayella Ewell. Atticus is a man that believes in justice for all. He had taken the case to set an example for his children and to stick to what he believe in and how they should do the same ****** put quote here*******. The quote previously stated is atticus explaining to scout why he had taken the case he said he simply could not bare to keep his head up knowing that he was a not being true to himself. Taking the case Atticus probably knew how the town would react and how much anger there would be towards him for instance when Atticus was coming out of the post office Mr. Ewell approached him and had spat in his face and had threatened to kill him in the novel. Bob Ewell had even went as far as calling Atticus names and threatening him, “to proud to fight you nigger- lovin’ bastard?”(Lee 217) and Atticus had responded with a “No, too old”(Lee 217) and had just strolled off with his hands in his pockets. It seems as if Atticus does not let the criticism of other get to him because of what he did as long as he stayed true to himself he didn't care, he was doing the right thing. After being confronted by mobs and people he still tried as hard as he could to get justice and that was very courageous knowing that he was target but still supported the innocent.
When taking the Tom Robinson case Atticus had probably expected there to be some sort of tension between him and the people of Maycomb county.

Atticus could probably predict that there would be tension between his children and the citizens of Maycomb county. At school Scout was constantly being harassed by the other kids at school for instance, a kid named cecil had approached her and called her a “****something- lover** “ ******* put quote here******* “. in the quote previously stated the reader can obviously see that scout was greatly affected by this and was not to happy. After everything that happens scout still get harassed and she starts to get physical. When Atticus finds about Scout fighting he speaks to her about it he said that she needs to stop fighting for his sake “******PUT QUOTE HERE*****” the reader can see that Atticus is concerned and Scout does take Atticus’s advice about fighting and when she was approached again she had refrained from fighting with anyone despite what they said to her. When taking the case Atticus knew what could probably happen to him and his

family.
Is Atticus really all that courageous? Atticus did not really take the case because he wanted it, he was assigned to the Tom Robinson case. The reader finds this out right before the trial that scout finds out that Atticus was assigned the Tom Robinson case “******PUT QUOTE HERE*****”. In the quote previously stated the reader can obviously see that Scout was baffled by this. Although Atticus was assigned the case he still gave it his all to make sure Tom Robinson got a fair trial and to help Tom get his freedom despite what could have happened to him and/ or his family. Atticus still stood up and did what he believed.
