When you think of an injury you normally think of a leg or an arm, but did you ever think you can hurt your head just as bad? The common head injury is called a concussion. A concussion is considered a mild traumatic brain injury. Concussions can be caused from several different factors. The two most common factors of a concussion are sport injuries and vehicle accidents. Some mild factors of a concussion are falls, bumps to the head, etc. Although concussions don’t seem to be a severe injury, they have several effects to the human body. Just like any other injury, concussions are a big deal. Unlike most injuries, concussions happen extremely fast. A concussion is a mild brain injury. The brain is surrounded by fluid and protective membranes called meninges. Meninges are what usually protects and cushions the brain. The meninges have a soft sensitive tissue around it. Depending on the injury, sometimes it can take up to a year until your body is back to normal. Some worsen symptoms doctors use to diagnose concussions is worsening headaches, slurred speech, confusion, loss of memory, drowsiness, etc. If you are noticing these types of symptoms, seek medical help immediately. A lot of times when a concussion takes place, you end up forgetting the hit or fall that took place before the concussion. Concussions can lead to long term health problems. Once you have had a concussion, you have to take caution to getting another one. Athletes are known to have multiple concussions. Having multiple head injuries increases the risk of having problems in the future. A single concussion may have repercussion on mental health and physical functioning. A concussion is a traumatic hit to the head that causes both the head, and brain to move rapidly back and forth. After so many traumatic hits to the head, the brain then has a hard time recovering and functioning like it normally
