Civic engagement is crucial in any community in order to create individual and collective actions that are able to address issues that the public is concerned about. Involvement in communities is the only way to ensure that the voice of the people is being heard. People in their community must be involved in order to have an opinion in certain issues because if they are not attempting to try and resolve the issues then why complain? This is a common problem being faced to this day as people take no action in being involved in their communities when their help alone could make a huge difference. As a civically engaged member of Carrollton, I participate in multiple events in my community that consist of volunteering at my church, being a part of my school and clubs, and helping with local event. What I spend most of my time doing outside of school is being a teacher’s assistant at Mary Immaculate for 4th graders and helping with church events like Communions and Confirmations. Being able to teach others is satisfying as I also learn from them and know that I am contributing to my community in the best way I can. Although now former President Donald Trump wants to take action in the problems occuring in other countries such as Syria. In order to help makes these conflicts more civilized for both countries, the rise in civil engagement can ensure that leaders in both countries respect and feel empathy for the beliefs of each leader. Overall this will help make regulations and agreements with other countries easier to deal with and less likely of starting a World War III. It is our civic right and duty to actively participate in governmental affairs. This recent election really highlighted the divide in opinion regarding the importance of governmental participation. “To many, our democratic system seems so broken that they have simply lost faith that their participation could really matter,” West writes in his essay entitled The Deep Democratic Tradition in America. Young people feel unimportant and irrelevant, which explains the lack in turnout from young voters ages 18-29. However, it wasn’t just young voters that didn’t turnout. Millions of eligible voters didn’t show up for the 2016 elections. A democracy without active participants is a democracy bound for
Civil and political importance is necessary so that we don’t lose that right, like other countries. It also helps so that our voices are heard and our decisions are based on what people want, not what top officials want. Without civic and political participation, there may be groups of people in the U.S. that don’t get a voice and may be discriminated against. We as citizens should always strive to make the country better for the future generations, without civic and political participation that may not happen as out voices won’t be heard and the top people will get what they want.
Organizational citizenship behavior is a term that encompasses anything positive and constructive the employees do, of their own volition, which supports their co-workers as well as the organization. Employees who are engaged in OCB may not always be the top performers, but they are the ones who are known to ‘go the extra mile’ or ‘go above and beyond’ the minimum efforts required to do a merely satisfactory job. Organizations will benefit from encouraging employees into OCB because it is linked to many advantages such as, increased productivity, higher customer satisfaction and much more.
The presence of social capital in civically engaged communities leads to better socioeconomic situations and an improved general quality of life. In his own research, he also found that in Italy the “levels of effectiveness [in regional governments] varied dramatically” and relates to the existence of civic engagement. Social capital can only produce benefits if utilized, just as monetary capital does little if not reinvested in the economy. Even if someone has many contacts in their address book the benefits of social capital can only be realized if at least some of them are engaged for socialization regularly. When people disassociate from groups they are less socially engaged. Democracy does not work as intended if a potential voter does not voice their opinion at the ballot box. He states that “voter turnout, newspaper readership, membership in choral societies and football clubs” were activities prevalent in successful areas. (Putnam 67) These each require active participa...
In Federalist 51 James Madison wrote, “In Framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: You must first enable the government to control the governed; and the next place, oblige it to control itself.” what is the challenge of both empowering and limiting the government.

As young people’s civic and political participation continues to decline, a number of organizations are working to reverse the decline by increasing opportunities for youth to participate. Communities around the country are taking steps to engage young people through a variety of methods that allow youth to actually participate in policy development and take action on local issues. The effectiveness of such community programs on long-term civic engagement is not well documented, however. This paper presents preliminary research about the effectiveness of one community participation program, the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s Youth Advisory Council. Quantitative and anecdotal evidence, while not conclusive, suggest this community problem solving approach may encourage its participants to engage in other civic and political activities. The paper also discusses the benefits that organizations and communities receive when young people participate in this way, and provides recommendations for developing a similar youth participation program.

Civic engagement is the backbone of many organizations. It brings people together working for the same cause of the organization. “Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to make that difference” (What Is Civic Engagement?, n.d.). When people gather together because of an organization, a bond is made with the other members. Friendships are made so with others so being part of an organization does not feel like it is work. Along with the friendships made, many minds work toward the betterment of that organization.

This school year I joined the cross country team. I plan to take part in track this year also. Earlier this year I also participated in the youth cultural celebration for the Idaho Falls Temple. In addition, I have served as a young women’s leader for my church. I have helped plan
Just as the age-old adage goes, “There is power in numbers.” Civic organizations give marginalized citizens a chance to have their voices heard. These organizations usually engage citizens who don’t normally participate in conversations on civic and public policy independently. Being part of an organization that has a common interest can boost the confidence of even the most timid participant. By using different forms of media and communications, civic organizations keep citizens informed and aware of certain issues that pertain to their respective common interests. Civic organizations help to

Community engagement is the active participation of local residents and community groups in the decisions that affect their lives (Herefordshire Council, 2013). Therefore, community engagement should be about engaging in open communication to ensure the council understands the needs of the local community.
Community service has now grown to be a way of bringing a community together. There is something important about doing good for others. Every community wants the people within it to be disciplined and work for change.
