Love is capable of being displayed in a variety of ways, including verbal praise, physical affection, jealousy, and many more. In Cherie Dimaline's The Marrow Thieves, the main protagonist Frenchie is fleeing from recruiters who are attempting to acquire the bone marrow of indigenous people. While doing so, he meets a group that takes him in. After losing his family, he develops a close bond with the members and begins to love them like family. I think that Frenchie's protective, brave, and caring nature is how he expresses his love. His love for this family deepens, and he grows brave to keep them safe. Slowly everybody comes into the room Frenchies in and sleeps there. Meaning, this shows that Frenchie is caring enough to let them all sleep in his room instead of sending them back to their rooms. Furthermore, I believe that Frenchie is very protective of his family, especially Rose, because it is the way he shows love to the people he loves. “I heard him whine a little at the end of the plea. But then, maybe it was just the wind. I pulled the trigger and the wind stopped blowing”(Dimaline 137). Before this, Riri gets killed with the man in this group that comes. So to get revenge because he could not protect Riri like he wanted to, he kills the other man in the group and then later on becomes even more protective of his family. Therefore, Frenchie protects the people he loves because he does not want to lose them like he lost his mom, brother, and others. Lastly, I believe that Frenchie shows love for his family by being brave to others for the sake of his family and the people he cares
